December 24, 1995, 07:00. Madam Bone's Office, Magical Law Enforcement, Ministry of Magic. Madam Bones just walked into her office when the door burst open, admitting Minister Fudge and Rufus Scrimgeour. "Amelia, You have to DO something" blustered the Minister. "Exactly what DO I need to do something about?" she asked. In the meantime, Dumbledore came striding in. "Please, Headmaster – welcome. Do come in. Thank you for joining us." She said in a syrupy and somewhat sarcastic manner. Rufus then began. "At the request of the Minister and Headmaster, I sent a team of 10 Aurors, including two Senior Aurors, to Miss Grangers Residence." "On what grounds?" asked Madam Bones interrupted. "On the grounds they assisted in the murder of 20 good citizens!" shouted Minister Fudge. "Assisted?! Assisted?! Do you not remember that that Fenix person said he sent her whole family, including Miss Granger, to the garage to hide? In what world do you live in does that make 'assisted'?" Madam Bones shouted. "And since WHEN do orders for arrest come from you Minister?! They are supposed to come through me! My office!" she exclaimed, loudly. "But Dumbledore agreed!" Minister Fudge replied. "Dumbledore is NOT the head of DMLE!" Madam Bones yelled. "So, back to the original question. What is it that you think I need to do about what?" she asked, a little more calmly. "The Aurors disappeared" said Rufus. "Disappeared?" she asked. "We know they made it to the residence. They badge-called before entering. Then nothing. We waited, and waited, but they did not call." Rufus continued. "What about their tracking charms, health monitors?" she asked, hoping the Aurors were still alive given the past outcomes of those attacking Fenix. "Their tracking charms malfunctioned sometime after 10:30pm. The health monitors say they are alive and in good health. We just don't know where." Rufus replied. "Have you tried scrying for them? Sending them an owl?" she queried. "Nothing works" said Rufus. "Was any magic recorded at the residence last night?" she asked. "None, with the exception of the anti-apparition and anti-portkey wards set up by the Aurors" Rufus replied. "Are these wards still up?" she asked. "Yes, apparently, at least according to the last time I checked this morning." Rufus answered. "And no magic has been registered except that performed by our Aurors." She repeated. "Yes" Rufus responded. "What you are saying is that WE initiated an illegal attack on a non-magical family, whose daughter is an underage witch, who is not allowed to perform any magic outside of school, put up illegal wards, illegally entered her home forcibly, our 10 trained adult Aurors were defeated without using magic and without causing them any harm, and our Aurors disappeared to locations unknown through no known magical means. Is that what you are trying to tell me?" Madam Bones re-iterated. "Yes" Rufus replied, shamefaced. "What exactly do you want ME to do? Snap my fingers and make them appear? Dumbledore apparently supported you, Minister, in authorizing this. Why don't you two snap your fingers – maybe the Aurors will show up?" she said. "This Fenix guy was able to murder the 20 magical citizens. Maybe he was there last night and captured the Aurors." Said Minister Fudge. "OK. Let's say that was what happened. Where are you going with this?" she asked. "He is a member of their….their….what-you-ma-call-it." Minister Fudge said. "Talk to the Prime Minister" he continued. "I see. You, the Minister of Magic, want ME, the head of DMLE, a junior to you, to demand a meeting with the Prime Minister to enquire the whereabouts of 10 of our Aurors who performed illegal acts last night against a family of non-magicals who are also citizens of the non-magical UK. Is that correct?" she asked. "Exactly" he responded.
Amelia thought about it for a few seconds, and then said "OK. But just because I am curious to see what will happen." she continued. "And which of you oh so brave men will go with me?" she queried. "Rufus will go with you" the Minister said, matter-of-factly. "I don't think so, Minister. Last time I saw them, I was given a warning to pass on. A warning you decided to totally ignore. I believe you need to come with me, Minister. It is only fair – you are the senior Minister, Minister." She said. "I will see what I can arrange".
