As I scanned the horde, my eyes caught a flicker of movement in the back—zombies clutching bows and arrows, their bony fingers pulling taut on the strings. Every single one of them wore armor, a patchwork of leather and metal glinting dully in the dim light, split about half and half. But then, something else grabbed my attention: a towering figure looming behind the shambling mass. I squinted, focusing my energy, and activated Observe.

The air hummed as the details flashed before me:

My pulse quickened. This guy was no joke. I took a deep breath and summoned my Sacred Gear, its power surging through me like a wildfire. Voltaris, my trusty partner, leapt onto my shoulders, his tiny claws digging in just enough to steady himself.

"Ready, partner?" I asked, dropping into a fighting stance, knees bent and fists clenched.

Voltaris's voice buzzed with excitement. "Always ready! Let's do this!"

"Alright," I grinned, "here we go!"

A blazing aura erupted around me, flames licking the air as I charged forward. I sucked in a breath, feeling the heat build in my chest, then roared, "FIRE DRAGON ROAR!" A torrent of flames exploded from my mouth, scorching the ground and swallowing about 150 zombies in a blazing inferno. Their charred remains crumbled into ash, but there were still nearly 2,000 left.

I leapt into the air, my dragon wings unfurling with a sharp snap, and hovered for a split second. "DRAGON LIGHTNING!" I shouted, hurling jagged bolts of electricity down into the horde. Another 100 fried on the spot, their bodies twitching before collapsing. But I could feel my magic reserves dipping—I'd need to pace myself.

Landing hard, I let my wings vanish and threw a punch, smashing one zombie into a cluster of others like a bowling ball through pins. "MIST OF DEATH!" I called, and a thick, toxic fog rolled out, dissolving 200 more into puddles of rot. Smirking, I summoned four sentries—floating orbs of steel and light—that immediately opened fire, peppering the enemy with glowing projectiles.

I threw up a quick barricade for cover and peeked out. "CHAIN LIGHTNING!" I yelled, watching arcs of electricity leap between the zombies, dropping about seventy in one go. I fired it off a few more times, hearing five faint dings in the back of my mind—level-ups, probably—but I shoved the thought aside. No time for that now.

"HOLY BREAK!" I bellowed, unleashing a wave of radiant energy that obliterated 300 in a single blast, their decayed bodies disintegrating into dust.

Voltaris whistled from my shoulder. "Nice one! That's 300 down in one shot."

"Yeah," I panted, wiping sweat from my brow, "but I need more tricks like Chain Lightning. Gotta step up my game."

"Heads up!" Voltaris barked, pointing skyward.

I glanced up just in time to see a storm of arrows raining down. Thinking fast, I seized the metal tips with my mind, halting them midair. With a flick of my wrist, I stashed them all in my inventory.

"Handy skill, huh?" Voltaris chuckled.

"Damn right it is," I shot back, grinning.

I raised my hands, activating my Ring of Skeletons and Ring of Bats. A swarm of clattering bones and screeching wings burst forth. "Attack!" I commanded, and they dove into the fray, tearing into the zombies with relentless fury.

"That's so cool," Voltaris said, his eyes wide.

"I know, right?" I laughed, adrenaline pumping.

"You know," he mused, "you could make a ring that summons a dragon."

I froze, staring at him. "You're messing with me, aren't you?"

"Nope," he said casually. "Just seal one of those dragons from the Dragon Dungeon. Can't be a Dragon King like the ones we took down, though."

"Who cares?" I said, practically bouncing. "I'd have a freaking dragon!"

"True," Voltaris nodded, "but what kind would you want? And we'd need to be ready—another Dragon King might spawn if we're not careful."

"Yeah, I get it," I said, rubbing my chin. "I've been dying to craft a sword with those black dragon scales, but I want my blacksmith level at 80 first. Don't wanna screw it up."

"Your blacksmithing's at 63 now, right?" Voltaris asked.

"Yup."

"Why not test it out with a small dagger first? See how it goes?"

"Good call," I said, then glanced at the battlefield. "Looks like we're down to the archers and that Undead King. Time to finish this."

….

With the last of the zombies crumbling under my skeletons' relentless assault, I waved my hand, dismissing them in a swirl of rattling bones. My right hand reached for Corrupted Rose, its dark, jagged blade gleaming wickedly as I yanked it free. Across the battlefield, the Undead King stood tall, his skeletal grip wrapped around a massive one-handed battle axe. Its edge caught the faint light, promising death. I didn't hesitate—I charged.

He swung hard, the axe slicing through the air with a low whoosh. I dodged to the side, my boots skidding on the dirt, and lunged forward, driving Corrupted Rose deep into his gut. Black ichor oozed from the wound as I ripped the blade free. He roared, swinging again, but I ducked low, the axe whistling over my head. Then, a sharp pulse ran through me—a notification flared in my vision:

Special Ability Unlocked!

Corrupted Petal Dance: This skill transforms the blade of Corrupted Rose into a storm of black rose petals, sharp as knives, slashing foes with deadly precision.

A grin split my face. "CORRUPTED PETAL DANCE!" I shouted, my voice echoing across the wasteland.

The sword shimmered, then dissolved into thousands of jet-black petals, each edge glinting like a razor. They surged forward in a swirling tempest, tearing into the Undead King. Every petal struck true, slicing through his decayed armor and brittle bones—50 damage per hit. His health bar plummeted as the storm raged, and with a final, guttural groan, he collapsed, dissolving into a pile of dust that scattered in the wind.

Another notification flashed:

Secret Quest Completed!

Secret Quest: Defeat the Undead King

"Nice," I muttered, catching my breath. Then I remembered those faint dings from earlier. I pulled up the log, and my eyes widened as the updates rolled in:

I let out a low whistle, a smirk tugging at my lips. "Sweet."

Voltaris hopped down from my shoulder, stretching his little limbs. "Told you we'd crush it," he said, his voice brimming with smug satisfaction.

"Yeah," I replied, sheathing Corrupted Rose and brushing the dust off my hands. "Now let's see what those skill books have in store. This is just the start."
