The next match is between Laxus and Orga, 2 users of Lightning Magic, but of different types. Everyone is anticipating this battle, including the fighters themselves. They eagerly enter the arena to start the match.
"At first, I was disappointed when they announced the matches because I was hoping to fight the Hero, you see. But when I saw my opponent's name, all that disappointment disappeared. You were Fairy Tail's strongest member before and we have similar types of Lightning Magic. So I've always wanted to fight you."
As Orga said, they haven't fought at all in the previous years. Sabertooth only rose recently and Laxus actually only participated once, that was when Fairy Tail won the tournament. Then he didn't participate again until this year because he thought the tournament was too boring.
Laxus joins again this year because of the new rule that allows each Guild to send 2 teams. He wants to compete with Alex. Also, after being absent for a few years, he hopes that the other Guilds have become much stronger as well to make the tournament more exciting.
Now, he feels that he has made the correct decision to stay out of the tournament for a few years because he can see the other Guilds' improvements to be more significant. He would know their improvements if he kept joining, which wouldn't make him as excited as now.
"The feeling is mutual. I also really want to fight you and see whose lightning is stronger." Laxus grins as he removes his fur robe using Requip. Many Mages can use Requip, but they only use it to conveniently change their clothes.
"God Slayer Magic has a higher tier than Dragon Slayer Magic." Orga flaunts his advantage.
"It sure is, in theory. But in practice, it all depends on the Mages. You can use the best Magic, but if you are not skilled enough as the user, then you'll lose to someone very skillful who uses normal Magic. A very skilled fighter might not even need to use their Magic to win."
Laxus's words make the Fairy Tail Mages nod in agreement. Most of them have lost to Alex even though he didn't use his Magic at all. He could defeat most of them purely with skills, physical power, and magic power control.
That's why Fairy Tail Mages are always focused on improving their skills instead of just improving their power. After all, they often lost to someone who defeated them with pure skills and used less power than them, so they needed to be more skillful to win.
"Skills, huh? Power is also a skill. The stronger your magic is, the higher your skill is." Orga smirks as the referee, Mato starts the match.
As soon as it starts, Orga shoots his black-yellow lightning to strike Laxus from above. When it lands, the ground shatters and chunks of rocks fly everywhere. The explosion is big, making the audience stare in awe.
But Laxus isn't hit by that lightning. He jumps just a little to the side to avoid that very fast attack. But there's no sign of magic used. Laxus only used his keen observation, great reflex, and physical speed to dodge that attack.
"Fast and strong. But I'm used to facing much faster and stronger attacks. I hope that wasn't your best attack." Laxus smirks as he shoots a yellow lightning beam from his left hand.
Orga doesn't dodge and chooses to block that attack with his right hand. Unsurprisingly, Laxus's Lightning Beam doesn't damage Orga at all. Just like the case with Natsu and Zancrow in the series, Orga is immune to Laxus's Lightning Dragon Slayer Magic as the Lightning God Slayer Magic user.
"That certainly feels more powerful than normal Lightning Magic, but it's useless against me." Orga smirks before taking a deep breath.
Laxus knows what spell Orga will use, so he also takes a deep breath himself. Then at the same time, both of them shoot their lightning from their mouth. Orga shoots a black-yellow lightning beam while Laxus shoots a bright yellow lightning beam.
"Lightning God Bellow!
"Lightning Dragon Roar!"
Their Magic's signature spells hit each other and create a very powerful impact that causes the entire stadium to shake a little. The shockwave causes the wind to spread, lifting women's skirts and people's hats.
Many people, including the participating Mages are shocked by this. Even some of their Guild Mates are surprised by how strong those 2's spells are. But they are more surprised by their opponent's power.
"He actually counters Orga's attack with an equal force." Sting is surprised to see Orga's attack is stopped because Orga has the highest raw power in Sabertooth. His Guild Mates are equally shocked by Laxus's power.
It's not just Sabertooth who gets surprised. Fairy Tail is also surprised that Orga can match Laxus's power. After all, they've never seen anyone else match it other than Alex and Gildarts.
"This will be more interesting than I thought." Alex is grinning excitedly to see how this battle will go.
Of course, Alex and many people understand that even though their power is equal, Laxus still has a big disadvantage against Orga. His Magic can't affect Orga, so many of them are wondering how Laxus will overcome this disadvantage.
But Alex and Fairy Tail members know what he'll do and as they thought, Laxus goes for close combat. He already knows how to fight someone who's immune to his Magic because he often fights Alex and the current Alex is immune to even his Lightning Dragon Slayer Magic.
So obviously, he knows how to solve that problem and his answer is physical attacks. Orga is immune to his Lightning, but not to his punches. So instead of using his lightning to attack, he uses it to support his attacks.
Laxus uses his lightning to greatly enhance his speed and strength. Then he rushes toward Orga at a very high speed and sends an enhanced punch. The surprised Orga still manages to block his punch with crossed arms, but gets flung to the wall, surprising the Sabertooth Mages.
Laxus grins because this is what he and Alex always did in their sparring matches. After all, just as Alex is immune to his lightning, he is also immune to Alex's lightning. Yet Alex always enjoys fighting Laxus in Gyuki form and uses lightning to give them more equal footings.
It really helps Laxus improve his close combat skills and now it's very helpful when he faces someone who is also immune to his magic like Orga.
"Damn, that was hurt." Orga gets up after crashing onto the wall. He doesn't seem to get that much damage, showing that his physical power and durability are also monstrous.
"Glad you aren't down with just 1 attack or this will be too disappointing." Laxus grins.
"As if that kind of weak punch will hurt me." Orga also grins.
Actually, right before he hit the wall, Orga covered his back with lightning to act like a cushion that reduced the impact of the crash. So he also has a very good reflex and decision making.
"Then, let's get serious." Orga grins as his body starts to get covered with black lightning aura, similar to Alex's Lightning Mode, but with black lightning.
Laxus also grins before he activates his Dragon Force and uses his own Lightning Mode. His Lightning Dragon Force surprises Sting and Rogue, but now, people are more focused at how they look like the personifications of Lightning.
Without any words, they charge toward each other and start throwing punches. Both of them are so fast that they only look like flashes of black and yellow lights. The impacts of their punches and kicks hitting each other are creating visible ripples in the air and loud noises because of how strong they are.
Only a handful of people can clearly see what they are doing. They mostly hit each other's punches and kicks while only dodging a few times. Yet they can't land any hits onto their opponent's body even after a while.
But after a while, it becomes clear that Laxus is faster while Orga is stronger. Alex smirks because now he knows who'll win this fistfight and as he thought, Laxus starts to gain the upper hand over Orga.
Because he is faster, Laxus can land more attacks and dodge more too. Orga's attacks are stronger, but no matter how strong an attack is, it won't matter if it doesn't hit. So as the match goes, Orga receives more damage than Laxus.
Orga actually lands some hits on Laxus too, but while they are very strong, Laxus doesn't seem to be affected by them. Aside from being faster, Laxus is also more durable. He isn't proud of it though because the reason he becomes so tough is because he often gets hit by Alex's powerful attacks, so he is just more used to it.
By landing more attacks and a more durable body to withstand attacks, Laxus finally takes Orga down in 15 minutes, half of the match time. His close combat skills are better than Orga, yet he doesn't show them all. Laxus can win while still holding back.
