'You really don't care about people's lives huh?' the monstrosity that was floating in front of the boy asked.
Its appearance was of absurd origins, seeming both like a demon and an angel. It had wings of white feather, only for it to be burnt in some areas and rotten in the other areas. Not a speck of it was pure white.
Its body was of a Greek sculpture, art materialized. Yet, a gaping hole could be seen on its stomach area. It was just like a dermoid cyst, containing bits of teeth, nails, hair, and even eyeballs that had rotted until it was unrecognizable.
The only thing confusing was that the other end of the hole didn't seem to connect to this world. Instead, it was a hazy black spiral that just didn't let perception through it.
"You can't ask me to take human life seriously" the boy replied in an uninterested way.
His eyes went to the monster's head - a sight children would have nightmares about. Only one eye was visible, although there were no eyelids - thus leaving the eyeball exposed with a string of red flesh holding it to the head.
Its nose also had no tip, leaving the two nostrils visible to the eye.
As for the rest of the face? A huge irregular mouth with jagged teeth everywhere. The mouth was stretched until the forehead, along with where the other eye should've been as well.
Gray hair fell from its head, giving it the slightest resemblance to the shinigami Rem.
"Humans live and die, just like the crop farmers plant and sow. In comparison to the universe, how does our life fare as different?" the boy continued.
In response, the maggots feeding on the monster's body seemed to start writhing in unison.
Indeed, his answer seem to have greatly triggered this demonic angel's appetite.
'You would be a good meal to have.' a faint sound barely of any resemblance to human voice vibrated from the monster.
Its had only gotten a raised eyebrow from the boy.
"So, you're going to eat me? I doubt you have much time to live yourself" his eyes wandered to the stomach area of the monster.
The hole that didn't let the eye see beyond it had grown larger.
Second by second, it was growing bigger and consuming more of this terrifying existence. When the monster had first appeared, the hole was barely a finger's size, yet only a minute later it had grown to consume the chest.
'Unfortunately I can't. You have been chosen.' the monster replied.
"Chosen? For what? Is it my time to die?" the eyes of the boy seemed to jolt up in excitement. Indeed, he had been waiting for this moment.
Waiting for something to bring him out of this orchestra called life that only sand a monotonous tone.
In response, the one eye of the monster seemed to change slightly.
It was a strange feeling, but Irwiz felt as if the angel had looked down upon him in pity.
'No. You are not to pass on to your next life. Fate won't allow 'death' to happen to you no matter what you do right now'
"Oh? Immortality?" he replied in utter desperation. Perhaps he shouldn't have struggled so desperately in front of that noose.
'No. From now, you are to be chosen as the servant to Fate. Your assigned number is LCEF-707.'
The boy's eyes bulged in exasperation. What was this number the monster was talking about?
What was 'IT' saying about Fate? Did such things exist?
At that moment, the voice of the monster inside his head seemed so deep and ethereal.
'And... I wish you luck'
With the last of its voice, the hole inside it spiraled rapidly until it consumed the entirety of the monster.
The view was gruesome. A mix of body matter, eyes, fur, nails, and fingers as all of it was sucked away.
The next moment, it was as if the angel never was. In front of him, all that existed was the dusty rooftop of the building.
Beside him the stage which he had built before his attempt. Above him, the rope that was supposed to take his life.
Whoosh
A gust of wind flew past him, and the rope dangled helplessly.
Was he supposed to be immortal now? To live life meaninglessly for the rest of life?
Well, the entire thing might have been his delusion from his near-death act. But Irwiz had this stomach tingling feeling that was not his mind playing tricks on him.
Well, it could all be tested right now.
In the boy's eyes right now, was a strong fire that could not be put out. All his cowardice and indecisiveness before had been burnt down by this fire.
He walked a few steps, he didn't feel any changes in his body nor mind. He was the same old Irwiz.
Then he ran. Towards the edge of the rooftop. When he was finally there, he didn't slow down a bit.
Instead, he lunged. Leapt towards empty air.
Irwiz looked down - indeed, this height should be enough for his death.
Wind brushed past his face, striking his eyes. However, he didn't close his eyes. Instead, he opened them wide forcefully.
'If this was true, if that monster was true, I wouldn't die.' To Irzwiz, death didn't seem as scary as immortality.
His body fell continuously, earth goddess Gaia pulling him down.
His mind flashed past a few memories, it was all so pointless.
Then, something happened. Just as he was halfway through falling down, a clear sound rang inside his mind.

As the journey down had almost finished, with Irwiz having a clear look on the pavement and the astonished looks of passersby, his vision darkened and Irwiz no longer thought anymore.
