Chapter 1 - Prologue

It was said that the world was created in six days, and that on the [seven]th, God rested.

Babylonians formulated that a week should have [seven] days based from their observation of the [seven] visible celestial bodies.

According to Christian theology, the [seven] deadly sins are core vices believed to give rise to human's immoral behaviors.

From a human geographic classification, the Earth currently has [seven] continents, though it was originally one massive landmass called Pangea.

The ancient Greek writers listed remarkable constructions they knew about known as the [seven] ancient wonders.

Color circle by Isaac Newton, [seven] colors known as ROYGBIV classified a rainbow partly because it fit musical and numerical ideas of harmony.

The musical diatonic scale has [seven] notes, with the eighth note returning to the first note at a higher pitch known as the octave.

Logarithmic chemistry suggests that [seven] is the neutral pH balance, meaning it is pure water. Anything below it is acidic, and anything above it is alkaline.

Even the Big Dipper contains [seven] prominent stars that are easily visible to the naked eye.

On a standard six-sided die, [seven] is the sum of opposite sides designed for symmetry and balance, ensuring numbers are spread evenly for fair play.

Number [seven] showed up almost everywhere. Luck. Fortune. People loved attaching meaning to it, as if repeating it enough times would turn coincidence into fate.

For one person though, that number meant a completely different thing.

"Fudge," a boy muttered. "With all these sevens in my life, I should've already used up the world's supply of luck. So why am I still this unlucky?!"

Yoon Seojin VII.

His name contained a regnal number, indicating that he is the seventh owner of that name within their dynastic family, Yoon.

Seojin is a college drop-out and a complete shut-in.

His mother's name is Yoon Hyerin, and is currently the seventh crowned top model of the country. She had married a total of seven gentlemen, meaning Seojin logically had seven fathers.

With her busy schedule, she rarely goes back home. To not let Seojin feel alone, she had hired maids to take care of her child. But for what reason was there that those seventy seven maids had quit their job, informing her they couldn't take care of a single child despite the high salary.

Though to call a seventeen year old a child, seemed to be a reason on its own.

Basically, Seojin's whole life was a kaleidoscope of number seven.

Even now, he was wandering inside a small convenience store as he browsed over the cups of noodles and ramen. He picked one up, hesitated, then returned it to the shelf and walked out empty handed.

Thing is, his wallet was no longer inside his pocket. Again. By his count, it was probably the seven hundred and seventy seventh one.

Too bad for him, his allowance for the week was all dumped there, meaning he couldn't use those he tried so hard to save up for a week just to buy premium chapters of a novel he was following for seven years.

"Damn it," he cursed.

Before the fading lines of a pedestrian crossing outside the convenience store and a rundown lamp with a glitchy light bulb, he stared at his phone to check if the novel had updated a new chapter with unmotivated eyes.

They looked like all hope he had disappeared completely.

"Seriously, damn it," he cursed again. "What am I supposed to do now? I'm hungry as hell, damn it. Such rotten luck. Like… come on!"

He couldn't believe everything that was happening in his life. The absurdity of it all was so real that he'd even gotten a tattoo above his left elbow: [777].

His stomach growled.

Thankfully, it was Sunday, which meant a fresh weekly allowance tomorrow. All he had to do was survive the hunger.

"I guess I'm staying hungry tonight. Sigh."

Sighing for probably the seventh time, he stepped toward the crosswalk… then haltd as his phone started buzzing.

Looking at it, he was flabbergasted.

[Skibidi101] Imma rizz your fanum six seven tax, sigma!

[itsnotron] ts chapter is not tuff, bro *wilted rose emoji

[Vainy] By any chance, are you gonna be adding femboy characters soon? asking for a friend

Those were the comments on the latest chapter of the novel he checked out earlier.

But what made him utterly caught off-guard was a single number displayed atop the screen, as if layered, casting shadows to the comments on the forum.

A single, lonely seven.

7

"Huh? What the hell is—"

77

The number doubled, and the phone vibrated again.

777

It kept going, again and again, until the vibrations began to creep the fudge out of him so he ended up throwing his phone on the ground, thinking it was glitched or infected by malware.

Still, it did not stop. It only vibrated even more intense, and every number that appeared had a sound that echoed:

SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN SEVEN

He couldn't take it anymore.

A saying goes, "never joke with a hungry man" and Seojin was very, very hungry.

Grumbling, he picked the phone back up. As he did, the screen suddenly returned to normal, with no more sevens and vibrations. Nonetheless, he was ready to get even and smash it.

"I don't know what's happening, but I'm not in the mood for pranks today, motherf—

Yet before he could finish…

Bang!

The phone exploded in his hand and black smoke flowed out from the speakers. He immediately threw it across the road. His hand didn't burn though, but the shock rattled him.

However, that black smoke slowly thickened, engulfing his vision as he began losing sensations of his surroundings until all he could see was a complete darkness.
