The reason why Michael hadn't created a smartphone all this while was because it was realistically too hard to execute.
Creating the very hardware for the phone was easy. But what good would that do if he didn't have any internet or phone service? Recreating those systems was a huge undertaking, one that would probably take him years.
But of course, he had plans to do that some time in the future. Ideally, he wanted to do it when the Nation of Reborn had spread through the entirety of the Royal Continent. That way, he knew he could build all the necessary structures for a society with smart phones and social media, like electricity for example.
However, the discovery of this mysterious cube immediately got rid of this problem.
All the phones created would connect to one thing, allowing a wide network that could span even the entire world if they wanted to.
