Chapter 16 - Misunderstanding.

Yozora sat on the rooftop, legs crossed, phone in hand, the afternoon sun casting shadows across his sharp expression.

He wasn't smiling.

He was in full yandere mode—eyes dark, expression twitching ever so slightly as he scrolled through photos of Momo on his phone.

One of her holding her bunny.

One of her laughing by accident.

One where she dropped her pencil and looked confused.

Yozora let out a breath. It trembled.

"...Too cute," he muttered. "It's honestly becoming a problem. She'll kill me before I get to kill anyone for her. Again..."

He was so absorbed, he didn't notice Riku until he leaned over his shoulder.

"Really pretty," Riku said softly, smiling.

Yozora froze.

The screen was clearly showing Momo's sweet face, cheeks puffed from blowing on hot tea.

"I like—"

SLAM.

Yozora grabbed Riku by the collar and shoved him against the wall so fast it blurred.

"You like what?" Yozora's voice was low. Knifelike. And so was the actual knife he pulled from his jacket. "Finish that sentence. Slowly."

Riku blinked.

Then smiled.

"—the teddy bear," he said cheerfully, pointing to the background of the photo."In the claw machine. Behind her. It looks so soft."

Silence.

Wind blew. A crow cawed in the distance.

Yozora's eye twitched. Knife still in hand.

He stared at Riku's dumb, honest smile. The boy wasn't shaking. Wasn't sweating.

Wasn't even blinking.

"Why," Yozora asked flatly, "are you not running for your life?"

Riku tilted his head.

"Because you're just really protective, right?" Riku said, "I think it's sweet."

Yozora stared harder.

Riku smiled wider.

"Also, your knife is very clean. I trust people with clean knives."

Yozora blinked. "...That's the stupidest logic I've ever heard."

"But it worked, right?"

Yozora let him go.

"Get out of my sight."

"Okay! See you at cooking club!" As Riku skipped down the stairs, Yozora stared at his knife.

"Why do I feel like I'm the normal one when he's around…?"
