The opponent's first choice was a three-headed, fluffy, noisy, chaotic bird Pokémon that looked like a large meatball topped with three smaller ones.
—The Normal/Flying-type Dodrio with the Early Bird ability.
It was clearly targeting Riolu, but unfortunately, it wasn't very effective because he sent out Rotom, and in its Heat form at that.
Both Pokémon were revealed.
The opponent's brow furrowed unconsciously.
Dodrio was a typical close-combat Pokémon with pitifully few ranged attacks. Against a special-attacking Electric-type with Levitate, it was almost a free win for the opponent.
He had to switch; there was no other choice.
Among the Pokémon he had, only one could effectively hit a Levitating Electric/Fire-type.
He had to do it without hesitation. Not that Li Xiang would give him much time to hesitate anyway.
The opponent recalled Dodrio and sent out his ace, Lickitung.
In appearance, this guy resembled a giant piece of bubble gum with grape-like eyes, a closed mouth, and a curly antenna on its head.
Its front had a white bib-like pattern, beneath which were three golden arcs resembling wireless signal bars.
It somehow gave off the vibe of a foreign gentleman.
"Peropero!"
It looked at the microwave oven using Nasty Plot and flying towards it, its pitch-black eyes gradually sharpening.
"Amnesia!"
Upon hearing the trainer's command, Lickitung's eyes glowed faintly blue, and three question marks appeared above its head.
Not far away, the microwave oven had already entered effective range and mercilessly launched its first move!
A large net formed of electricity flew towards Lickitung!
The reason for not using Taunt was because this guy had the Oblivious ability and was immune to it. Not using Will-O-Wisp or Thunder Wave was because it could use Refresh, making it pointless.
Against this kind of Pokémon, you had to outsmart it, not overpower it.
Start with Electroweb to trap it!
"Use Rollout!"
Seeing the Electroweb was unavoidable, the opponent decisively chose to attack!
Lickitung's eyes focused, one foot left the ground, its body wrapped in a brownish glow, spinning rapidly!

The sound of electricity crackled. The Electroweb landed on it, dealing damage but failing to restrain it.
Moreover, the brief paralysis effect of the electricity didn't manifest on it. It was as if it hadn't hit.
After scattering the Electroweb, Lickitung decisively charged towards the microwave oven!
"Double Team!"
A low command, and the microwave oven instantly split into countless illusory copies, scattering around Lickitung.
Lickitung spun horizontally, circling widely in the arena, trying to destroy all the copies!
"Was that a Counter Shield?"
Li Xiang raised an eyebrow; the scene looked somewhat familiar, clearly resembling the spinning move defense technique Ash loved to use.
But what surprised him even more was how Lickitung used Rollout.
As everyone knew, Rollout was typically a forward-rolling move, with power increasing the longer it was used.
The downside was difficulty stopping.
Horizontal rolling was a modified vertical version, where power increase was less significant, but stopping was easier.
If this move hadn't been specially trained, Li Xiang wouldn't believe it, sufficiently proving this guy had some skill.
Li Xiang wasn't in a hurry to do anything. He watched Lickitung roll around searching for the real microwave oven until the glow on its body grew brighter.
"Volt Switch."
He snapped his fingers.
The remaining microwave ovens immediately waved their energy-made hands, releasing countless golden lightning rings towards the spinning Lickitung!
Boom!
Electricity flashed!
Heaven knew how much damage it dealt, but Li Xiang saw Lickitung didn't even flinch.
This indicated the Amnesia move had boosted its Special Defense significantly, and with the Rock-type energy of Rollout acting as a buffer, the damage was probably pitifully low.
However, because Li Xiang deliberately dragged out the time, Lickitung's Rollout ended.
The pink fatty stood in place, looking somewhat dizzy.
'Opportunity!'
Instant switch!
Li Xiang rushed towards Lickitung's location, recalling the microwave oven with his front hand and releasing Riolu with his back hand!
The Wave-Guiding Dog landed!
No command was needed; Riolu naturally used Agility, transforming into a black-and-blue streak of light!
Because Li Xiang deliberately shortened the distance between the two Pokémon, released Riolu close to Lickitung, and the Electroweb had slowed it down,
Both it and its trainer failed to react in time.
Riolu closed in, its figure flickering, and in an instant, it was pressed against Lickitung, its small fist glowing with a brownish-red light!
The massive fatty and the skinny little dog stood together, visual impact full marks.
But then, something even more visually impactful happened!
Riolu took a deep breath, lifted off the ground, stepped, rotated its hips, pushed its shoulder, and threw a punch in one fluid motion!
"Awo!"
It let out a sharp bark!
Explosive Fist - Force Palm!
Thud!
A dull explosive sound!
Lickitung's nearly 300-pound body was sent flying by a punch from this humanoid dog weighing less than 50 pounds!
A six-fold weight difference, treated as nothing!
"So fast!"
The opponent's pupils contracted sharply, quickly stepping back twice as the heavy Lickitung crashed down in front of him.
"Use Wrap!"
Wrap, a Normal-type special move; the more HP the opponent has left, the greater the power!
Lickitung struggled to lift its head, opened its mouth, and shot its pink tongue out like a sharp sword towards Riolu!
"Detect."
Riolu charged forward quickly, slightly tilting its head to easily dodge the attack, then suddenly lowered its head to dodge the retracting tongue again.
By this time, it was less than a meter away from Lickitung again.
Without a word, it grabbed Lickitung's foot and then threw its entire body backward!
Circle Throw!
The 300-plus-pound pink fatty was thrown, then turned into a red light, actively flying back into the opponent's PokéBall.
Simultaneously, another PokéBall was forced open!
A slender, cream-colored big-eared cat landed on the ground!
It was the first-generation Normal-type Pokémon—Persian.
Admittedly, Persian's in-game sprite was a bit ugly because its face was too angular, making it look like a middle-aged man. But in the three-dimensional world, this Pokémon based on Siamese and Persian cats looked so cute!
Li Xiang looked at the big cat and felt somewhat charmed.
"Aura Sphere!"
But cute as it was, they still had to fight!
Riolu quickly raised its hand, a rapidly spinning bright blue energy ball appearing in its palm, thrown towards the confused Persian!
"Fake Out!"
The opponent shouted. Persian quickly snapped back to reality, throwing its cat paws at the incoming Aura Sphere!
Milky white light collided with it!
Boom!
An explosion, gray-white smoke quickly covering the area!
The opponent's vision was blocked; not daring to delay, he immediately gave a command.
"Icy Wind!"
Persian, its body covered in smoke, opened its mouth wide, blowing out a cold wind mixed with ice-blue particles, scattering the mist as it swept forward!
But without a doubt, in less than three seconds, Riolu was no longer there.
Its real location was—
In the sky!
The opponent was could be called slow to realize Riolu's location. As he opened his mouth to shout, Riolu had already raised its knee, descending like a thunderbolt!
Boom!
The ground shook!
Persian's entire head was driven into the ground by this knee strike, its limbs limp, the surrounding ground layered and shattered like broken mille-feuille.
Instant KO!
No resistance at all!
Li Xiang looked at the scene with some reluctance, as he was quite a cat lover.
Truly Riolu, the natural enemy of cats, ruthless and decisive.
"Beep!"
The referee quickly blew the whistle.
The opponent recalled Persian with a gloomy expression. He had wanted to use Icy Wind to lower its speed, but instead of slowing it down, one of his key fighters was instantly KO'd.
How could Riolu have such high output?
Was that reasonable?
His mind raced with thoughts, but he understood he didn't have many choices left, decisively sending out Dodrio.
"Brave Bird!"
He shouted, having Dodrio use its big move right after entering the field!
The three-headed strange bird let out a piercing screech, its long legs kicking off the ground hard!

The strange bird leaped into the air, reaching over ten meters easily with its excellent jumping ability, then its body became enveloped in cyan-blue flames!
As a flightless bird, Dodrio, despite having no wings, grew a pair of flame wings with the help of this move!
"Gah!"
The three heads cried out, charging down towards Riolu below!
But waiting for them was a fist charged with electricity, crackling with blue lightning, emitting explosive sounds in the air!
Thunder Punch!

Azure electricity and cyan flames collided violently! Dust plumed into the sky!
Dodrio's entire body was sent flying back but landed nimbly on the ground, shook its heads, chattered noisily, and immediately charged back into the smoke!
Spirals of sky-blue airflow formed around its three mouths!
As these air currents swirled, the rising smoke around was swept away, revealing the empty path ahead!
Gone again!
Even though he reacted faster this time!
The opponent suddenly looked up but found nothing in the sky. He had no choice but to look at Li Xiang across the field.
"Because it's a Ghost type."
Li Xiang shook the two PokéBalls in his hand, giving him a small hint.
Anyway, it was already too late.
From the shadow beneath Dodrio, a grinning regular Rotom slowly emerged.
Then—
"Discharge."
Li Xiang looked at the opponent's pale face and waved his hand.
Azure lightning instantly erupted!
In the arena, a huge cage of electricity tightly locked Dodrio in place, rendering it immobile!
"Use Rest! Use Rest!"
The opponent shouted, sweat beading on his forehead.
His Early Bird Dodrio could wake up the very next second after using Rest, making its HP recovery efficiency extremely high, could be called the top tool for sustain.
However, under the paralysis effect of Electric-type moves, it was completely unusable.
And before Dodrio was electrocuted into unconsciousness, it couldn't use a third move.
