On December 27, 1999, the joint US-Japan cross-century military exercise officially began. The US troops participating in the exercise first assembled in the direction of Kyushu, followed closely by the Land Guard Eastern Division stationed in Saitama Prefecture.
Hokkaido and Kyushu happen to be at the two ends of Japan, so the Northern Division from Hokkaido is the furthest from the exercise location. On the 29th, fifteen thousand participants in the exercise officially embarked to Kyushu.
On the same day, Aoyama Xiu Xin returned to Tokyo from Hokkaido without bringing his sister-in-law and two children.
