Chapter 2 - ENCHANTED PETALS WITH THORNS

"Okay, fine. I'll be there. Just wait up," she said, her voice laced with a playful warning, her eyes sparkling with amusement as she dared him to defy her.

Fifteen minutes later, Kevin stood in the doorway, exuding a calm confidence that commanded attention. His broad shoulders filled the frame, and his casual attire hinted at the toned physique beneath. The warmth of his skin tone and the fine lines around his eyes spoke of a life spent outdoors, and his black eyes sparkled with a quiet intensity that complemented his messy, short black hair.

As he gazed at Christie descending the stairs, his heart skipped a beat. Her eyes sparkled with amusement, and her hair was perfectly tousled, as if she'd spent hours getting it just right, well that's because she did. She wore a simple yet elegant dress that suited the farm visit, and her presence lit up the room with a warmth that drew everyone in. For a moment, time stood still, and all that existed was the two of them, lost in the depths of each other's eyes.

Christie, a woman of vision and elegance, descended the stairs with a heavenly grace. Her emerald gem-like eyes sparkling with amusement and her perfect intricate tousled hair, which seems to have been crafted with precision, her simple but dashing dress hugged her curves perfectly suited her purpose of visit, her presence filling up the room with a sultry warmth that seems to go mesmerise Kevin. As he was sending her lustful gazes, his desire, palpable in his demeanour

Christie face palmed herself and said out loud, " Why did fate bring me 'such'' man" in a super fake lamenting tone, with that Christie found herself listening in on the rare moments when men open up about their deepest, most secret fears or doubts by put on an absolutely brave front. " I don't know, sometimes I do wonder how a lowly man like me could ever be with an absolute goddess like you, with unparalleled grace, stunning smartness, extraordinary culturedness, and breathtakingly beautiful side of you," Most times I need to pinch or hurt myself to give assurance to myself that, this is all not a dream but pure, unadulterated reality and I need to do all I can to worship and cherish you said Kevin in pure melancholy mixed with adoration.

Besides if I don't send lustful gazes towards you whom am I supposed to send those gazes to, yeah one more how thing, how about we have a quickie before going out said Kevin with lust written all over his face.

Christie's visage transformed, erasing the ephemeral butterfly-like sensation that had briefly fluttered within her upon hearing Kevin's request.

Thirty minutes had passed since Christie and Kevin had shared a tender moment, leaving them with dishevelled hair and a bit of crumbled attire, smiles still lingering on their faces. They stood upon a massive and expansive farmland, which stretched out before them for a full kilometre in both breadth and length. The peculiar crop that grew there, reminiscent of a pineapple yet resembling a potato, boasted an enigmatic, dirty purple hue. Kevin proposed, "Christie, why don't we split up to cover more ground and conduct a more thorough investigation?" His tone was infused with an aura of expertise. However, Christie responded in a plaintive voice, "But I wanted us to walk and investigate together."

"Come on, Christie," Kevin said in a dumbfounded voice, hinting at the intimate moments they'd shared thirty minutes ago before arriving at the farm. "After what happened, you're still not satisfied?"Kevin De Loise!" Christie exclaimed, her voice laced with anger and emotion. "You naughty boy, you shameless, you good-for-nothing except for being sexy and being good in bed! All I've been trying to do since morning is spend time with you while we do this thing together. But here you are, trying to keep me away. Don't you think I deserve to be treated better than 'a flower in a greenhouse'? Have you really forgotten what you said to me on 'that day'?" Christie's emotions varied, shifting from anger to lamentation, and finally ending with a wail.

"Oh honey, I'm so sorry if I made you feel that way," Kevin said, pulling Christie into a tight hug. "All I wanted was to finish up with the farm work and spend the rest of the day with you, relishing old memories, with me treating you as the Princess you are. I know I can be naughty, shameless, and good-for-nothing sometimes, but I promise I'll always keep my promises to you. You're the sole reason I cancelled my work tending to the bunishi Farmland and instead just inspected them. I'm sorry if I've been acting like a jerk lately, but it's only because I trust you so much that I let you cook for me... even though I secretly love your 'poisonous' food." Christie really felt all the special and maiden-like feelings after she heard what Kevin said, but blushed with embarrassment when she heard how he stressed the words "trust you" and "terrible". However, it didn't stop her from saying, "I love you, Kevin De Loise, and I thank you very much for making me feel special and loved even after all these years," out loud. But I still stand by my conviction: we are walking and inspecting this bunishi Farmland together.

It all clicked in Kevin's head once he heard what his wife said. "You witch, you fiend, it was all an act to play me, isn't it?" said Kevin in a condescending tone. "Oh, stop being a drama queen. You knew all along that it was a ploy, but yet still you jumped right into it. Now hurry, you have only five minutes left of your twenty-minute inspection time," said Christie, dropping all pretence and walking past Kevin while taking the lead.

Kevin immediately caught up with Christie while thinking of how to score one on his wife, because just what happened a few minutes ago, she had played him seven times, and those are the ones he's aware of. He can't even imagine how many times he has fallen for her ploys without being aware of it himself.

She must have been laughing behind my back, much like the quintessential villains of lore, when their meticulously crafted plans come to fruition after a long and arduous period of plotting. Kevin was so lost in his thoughts that he didn't notice Christie stopping, and he bumped right into her. What had caused Christie to stop? Kevin's mind was a buzz with this question

"As Kevin moved past Christie, he found himself halted once more, this time by the devastating sight before him. A portion of his beloved bunishi Farmland, to which he had devoted four months of tireless labor, lay in ruin. Though the damage was minor, Kevin's discomfort was profound, for he cherished his crops as if they were his own daughters. His gaze then fell upon the perpetrator of this destruction: an unconscious, naked teenager, approximately sixteen years of age. The youth's silver-blue hair cascaded down his back, exceeding the length of his waist, and his visage was nothing short of enchanting, a breathtaking countenance that seemed almost otherworldly. For one so young to possess such extraordinary beauty was almost a crime, leading Kevin to wonder if this boy was a god or a demon incarnate."

Kevin was sure the unconscious person was a teenager and not a high level mage in disguise because of baby fats still around his face or how there isn't a single callus, mark or muscle on his body like sons of those distinguished commoners and the last and important is his how average in size his little "prick" was, not small or big just average. "Oh man!" how relieved I am to know that, I mean ugly dudes most times steal chicks with their massive "prick." And to have a face that could make even old hags want to have a piece of you when you're only this young, I can't imagine how much worse it will be when he finally steps out of puberty and to top it off with a "massive sausage" man that would have been a disaster, no family will ever be safe, I'm really glad to know that at least some family could be saved if not I don't know how many world war he would have with how absurdly handsome he is, thought Kevin.

"Oh no." Christie hadn't said a word since she laid eyes on the little fiend. Her silence wasn't just unsettling—it was unnatural.

Don't tell me she's been entranced—bewitched by this devil, Kevin thought, his stomach turning.

"Kevin, I—I…" Christie's voice broke, barely more than a whisper.

Kevin's chest tightened. She's really going to do it. After everything we've been through… she's going to leave me. She knows how much I love her—and still, she's choosing him?

He stepped forward, voice steady but edged with desperation. "Stop right there, Christie. I won't let you go through with this."

She met his gaze at last, her eyes distant but resolute. "Why not?" she asked softly. "You know this is the best choice… given where we are now."

Kevin blinked, stunned.

How did it come to this?

The woman he loved was slipping through his fingers—choosing a monster over him.

She truly believes this is what's best.
