Liam sat behind his sleek mahogany desk, the soft hum of the air conditioner filling the room. A towering stack of paperwork sat beside him, untouched.
The office had a modern elegance, with floor-to-ceiling windows that offered a breathtaking view of Tokyo's skyline.
But despite the stunning view, Liam's mind was elsewhere.
He tapped his fingers rhythmically against the desk, his cursed energy swirling lazily as he skimmed through an important document.
"Expansion plans for the next quarter… blah, blah, blah…"
His eyes narrowed slightly.
Despite being in college, Liam had already cemented his position in the business world. Thanks to his sharp mind, he balanced studies, work, and sorcery with an ease that frustrated his peers and impressed his elders.
His father, Akira Nakamura, had built a powerful business empire, and Liam—though reluctant at first—had slowly taken over some responsibilities.
He wasn't a businessman. Not by heart.
He wanted to be something more... meaningful.
And I'm bored out of my damn mind.
Sighing, he set the document down and leaned back in his chair, rubbing his temples. The ceiling felt like it was closing in, and the monotony of daily office life was slowly suffocating him.
Just as Liam was about to resign himself to another excruciating hour of paperwork, the door to his office swung open.
Bai Yue stepped inside, her usually composed face marred by something rare—concern.
"Liam," She said, her voice soft but urgent. "We have a problem."
Liam leaned back in his chair, raising a brow. "Oh? A real problem or another accounting error?"
She shook her head. "Cursed spirit. Finance department."
Liam's eyes gleamed with interest. "Now that's more like it."
He stood up, stretching lazily as if he had all the time in the world. "How bad?"
Bai Yue crossed her arms. "Bad enough. It's making a mess. But no one else can see it. They only feel… something."
Liam smirked. "Good. That means no witnesses."
By the time they arrived, the finance department was in complete chaos.
Papers littered the floor, chairs were overturned, and the employees stood frozen at their desks, staring into the empty air—completely oblivious to the hulking abomination before them.
The cursed spirit loomed at the center of the room, a massive, centipede-like horror with countless writhing tendrils. Its soulless, lidless eyes twitched erratically as if sensing something it couldn't comprehend.
The workers shivered, feeling an invisible, suffocating pressure. One of them clutched their chest, gasping. "Why… does it feel so—so cold?"
Another whispered, "I swear I heard something breathing…"
But there was nothing there—at least, nothing they could see.
Bai Yue, standing beside Liam, was the only one who saw the true horror. Her fingers twitched toward the knife hidden beneath her blazer, but she forced herself to stay still.
She didn't need to act.
Liam took a single step forward. The cursed spirit snapped its grotesque head toward him, its many maws splitting open to unleash a shriek that made the lights flicker.
It lunged but Liam didn't move. He only raised his hand, pressing against its disfigured face.
His palm darkened. A black void spread like ink, swallowing the cursed spirit whole. It let out one final, gurgling wail before it was gone.
Not a trace of it remained.
The tension in the air vanished in an instant as if it had never existed.
The employees blinked, glancing at each other in confusion.
"That's weird… I suddenly feel fine."
"What were we panicking about?"
"Did the air-conditioning just turn back on?"
Liam exhaled, stuffing his hands into his pockets. "What a joke."
Bai Yue relaxed her shoulders, watching as Liam turned away, utterly uninterested in the fact that he had just erased something from existence.
No one would ever know what had happened. No one would believe it even if they were told.
And that was exactly how Liam preferred it.
Back in his office, Liam leaned against the window, staring at the Tokyo skyline. The city lights flickered like fireflies, alive and ever-moving.
And yet, he felt empty.
This isn't enough.
He had been growing stronger, testing his limits, but the cursed spirits in Tokyo were too weak. Even the special grades barely challenged him anymore. He craved something more… something powerful… something worth his time.
Sukuna is still over a year away from reincarnating.
Liam exhaled sharply. He had already located several of Sukuna's fingers, but the thought of forcefully feeding them to Yuji Itadori was out of the question.
Liam was not a fool.
He sought strength, but not at the cost of innocent lives.
Unlike Gojo, I don't have the luxury of keeping Sukuna in check on my own.
His fingers clenched slightly. He wanted to fight the strongest, but he wasn't some bloodthirsty lunatic who would unleash a disaster just for his own amusement.
For now, he had no choice but to wait
The hum of the city was distant from the sanctuary of Liam's office, where the air smelled faintly of paper and expensive cologne. The floor-to-ceiling windows reflected his composed figure as he scrolled through reports, but his mind wasn't on work.
He had handled a cursed spirit earlier—nothing out of the ordinary, just another day of silently cleaning up the mess others couldn't even perceive.
His secretary, Bai Yue, had given him a knowing glance when he returned, but she didn't say anything. She never did unless necessary.
He barely had time to settle before a guard entered, bowing slightly.
"Sir, there's a… peculiar guest here to see you."
Liam raised a brow, setting his pen down. "Peculiar how?"
The guard hesitated. "He's dressed like a monk… large earlobes, exudes a strange presence."
Liam stilled for a moment before smirking. "Well, well."
He leaned back, amusement flickering in his eyes. "Didn't expect to see him so soon."
He dismissed the guard with a wave and stood, adjusting his cuffs. It had been years since their last meeting—since their fight over Rika Amanai.
Suguru Geto was never one for casual visits, so this wasn't a social call.
Stepping out of the elevator, Liam spotted him immediately.
Geto was seated calmly in the waiting area, hands resting on his lap, a small, knowing smile on his lips.
Liam chuckled. "You know, you're the last person I expected to come knocking at my door."
Geto glanced up, his expression serene. "Liam. It's been a while."
They shook hands briefly, an unspoken acknowledgment passing between them. Their grip was firm, but there was a subtle tension—a weight of history that neither of them addressed.
"I assume you're not here for a business consultation," Liam mused.
Geto smiled. "No. I'd prefer to discuss things somewhere… quieter."
Liam gestured towards the exit. "Good thing I own a café nearby."
The two of them walked in silence, the night air crisp but not uncomfortable. The café was mostly empty at this hour, a benefit of Liam's ownership. A nod to the barista was enough to ensure privacy as they took their seats in a booth near the back.
