Chapter 417 - Chapter 417: Abyss Tide!

Jing Shaoyu moved unhindered through the Abyss Passage, with every abyssal creature blocking his path being refined by the Doomsday Divine Spear, becoming part of his cultivation.

Soon, he had traversed the same distance as the previous day and prepared to advance further.

"Woo—woo—woo—"

A low, mournful shriek accompanied by violent, ferocious gusts of wind surged from the depths of the passage, rushing toward Shaoyu and beyond. His expression changed abruptly, and the Blood God Ring on his wrist emitted continuous alarms.

"Abyss Tide!" he cursed under his breath before turning and fleeing without hesitation. His speed was astonishingly fast, instantly outpacing the terrifying currents sweeping in from the depths of the Abyss.

The so-called Abyss Tide referred to the periodic large-scale surge of abyssal creatures rushing through the Abyss Passage, resulting in massive assaults on the passage entrance as they attempted to break through the Blood God Legion's blockade.

Based on the scale and level of the abyssal creatures, the Blood God Legion classified the Abyss Tide into three tiers. The first and second-tier tides posed little threat, as the Energy Shield constructed by the Blood God Legion's first line of defense could block them. Soldiers only needed to stand on the other side of the shield and attack to easily repel the abyssal horde while harvesting merit points.

Thus, while first and second-tier Abyss Tides were dangerous, they also presented opportunities and had limited impact on the Legion's defenses.

In the three months since Shaoyu's arrival, he had personally experienced a second-tier Abyss Tide once, so he was quite familiar with the phenomenon.

However, now that he was inside an S-rank Abyss Passage and witnessing the precursors of a tide, it meant things had taken a dire turn. An Abyss Tide affecting an S-rank passage could only be a third-tier Abyss Tide!

A third-tier Abyss Tide could be considered a full-scale assault by the Abyss Plane against the Blood God Legion's defenses. The abyssal army would be far more numerous and powerful, with Titled Douluo-level abyssal creatures likely joining the battle.

Once this occurred, the Blood God Legion's first and second lines of defense would become nearly ineffective, forcing the entire Legion into full mobilization, with all combat units deployed to the front lines.

After every third-tier Abyss Tide, the Blood God Legion suffered heavy losses, requiring extensive recovery time to return to full strength. The impact on the Legion was immense.

Fortunately, launching a third-tier Abyss Tide also came at a great cost to the Abyss Plane. If unsuccessful, it would take decades before another attempt could be made—by which time the Blood God Legion would have mostly recovered.

Thus, the war between the Douluo Continent and the Abyss Plane had effectively devolved into a prolonged war of attrition, with both sides depleting each other's resources and forces. This stalemate had lasted nearly six thousand years and, barring unforeseen circumstances, could very well continue for another six thousand.

Shaoyu never expected to encounter a third-tier Abyss Tide just months after his arrival. For a moment, he wasn't sure whether to feel nervous or exhilarated.

With a flash, he dashed out of the Abyss Passage and arrived at the Blood God Legion's first line of defense, where chaos had already erupted.

"Abyss Tide, intensity level three! Everyone, prepare!" Jing Shaoyu shouted.

As his figure appeared and his voice rang out, the node was already battle-ready. Massive light shields rose one after another, standing tall at the passage's entrance and exit. The surrounding Soul Guidance artillery platforms were fully charged, their dark muzzles aimed squarely at the shields.

The soldiers guarding the passage retreated in an orderly manner. Against an intensity level three Abyss Tide, staying here would only lead to unnecessary casualties—the real battlefield was the second line of defense.

Amid deafening alarm sirens, the entire Blood God Legion entered a tense state of combat readiness. Long Yuxue, who had been stationed outside the passage, found Jing Shaoyu and called out respectfully, "Your Excellency, we are heading to the second line of defense."

By the time Jing Shaoyu reached the second line, the duty combat unit had already completed all preparations. Various medium and large-scale defensive equipment were deployed, rows of defensive arrays stood in perfect order, and interconnected Soul Guidance Devices lit up one after another, their energy fluctuations surging abruptly.

The duty combat unit was the Ironblood Regiment. Its commander, Ma Shan, immediately strode forward upon seeing Jing Shaoyu's arrival.

"Major General Your Excellency, Ironblood Regiment Commander Ma Shan reporting for duty!" Ma Shan's voice boomed, amplified by Soul Power, carrying across the entire battlefield and ensuring every soldier knew of Jing Shaoyu's presence.

Undoubtedly, this was deliberate. The appearance of a Titled Douluo provided an unimaginable boost to morale. Even if a Titled Douluo's role in a war of this scale was limited, in a world where individual might reigned supreme, the presence of a top-tier powerhouse remained highly effective.

Jing Shaoyu didn't reprimand Ma Shan for it. Instead, he smiled and said, "Return to your command post. There's no need to mind me."

"Yes, sir!" Ma Shan responded resolutely, his military bearing on full display. He turned and swiftly returned to his command position, standing ready as he stared at the Abyss Passage shrouded in dark mist.

The Ironblood Regiment only needed to withstand the first wave of the Abyss Tide—the rest of the Blood God Legion was rapidly assembling and advancing.

Jing Shaoyu noticed that high above the Abyss cavern, suspended within the thick black fog, was a massive metallic sphere. Over three hundred meters in diameter, its underside spewed hundreds of fiery jets, while mechanical arms extended from its top, reaching into the surrounding Abyss Passage entrances and connecting with the Soul Guidance Devices inside. A torrent of energy poured from the sphere, flowing through the mechanical arms into the devices within the Abyss cavern.

The Blood God Heart—the true core and foundation of the Blood God Legion, the Federation's only twelfth-ranked Soul Guidance Device, born from the same origin as the three twelfth-ranked Fixed Soul Guided Cannon Shells. A colossal energy conversion machine, its existence ensured that none of the Blood God Legion's Soul Guidance Devices would ever run out of power.

The massive Energy Shields forming the first line of defense could withstand the impact of intensity level one and two Abyss Tides and quickly rebuild after a level three—all thanks to the Blood God Heart.

The activation of the Blood God Heart also signaled the beginning of the Abyss Tide's assault.

"Boom—"

The ashen-black Destruction Energy surged against the blue energy shield, followed closely by hordes of Abyssal creatures swarming toward it like ants. As the Destruction Energy dissipated, the shield collapsed instantly, and countless Abyssal creatures charged madly toward the second line of defense.

"Open fire!" Ma Shan roared, met only by the thunderous, continuous barrage of cannons, gunfire, and explosions.

The front line of melee Mecha emitted a white glow, interlocking to form an impregnable wall. Despite the relentless onslaught of Abyssal creatures, they stood firm as a mountain. At the rear, long-range Mecha, Soul Guidance Cannons, and soldiers unleashed a storm of multicolored flames—red, yellow, blue, and green—while white smoke curled upward from the scorching gunpowder.

Soul Guidance Cannon Shells, lasers, and bullets rained down upon the Abyssal horde, carving out patches of empty ground that vanished almost instantly, swallowed by the tide of creatures surging forward.

Such was the brutality of the Abyssal War.

Jing Shaoyu remained calm. This was merely the beginning. The main force of the Abyssal army had yet to appear—the vanguard was nothing but cannon fodder, their sole purpose to disrupt the Blood God Legion's formations and deplete their ammunition and stamina. After years of warfare, the tactics of the Abyss Plane had evolved.

He sat in the rear, silently meditating to restore his energy. Beneath him, three radiant auras—crimson, azure, and emerald—pulsed simultaneously, enveloping the entire Ironblood Regiment's position. The Mecha warriors at the front and the long-range fighters at the rear felt an indescribable, almost mystical sensation.

Not far ahead of Shaoyu stood the Battle Armor warriors, all deep in meditation, striving to maintain peak condition for the impending, white-hot battle.

Cannon fodder alone could never breach the Mecha's defensive line. They were waiting—waiting for the higher-tier Abyssal creatures to make their move.

As time passed, the battle inevitably escalated into a fever pitch. The Abyssal creatures attacked with savage ferocity, yet the Mecha warriors held their ground unyieldingly, channeling all their energy into defense while the rear lines unleashed devastating, unrelenting firepower.

Though the Abyssal onslaught was checked, Ma Shan, the frontline commander, remained grim-faced. The true trial had only just begun.

The earth trembled suddenly as massive figures appeared in the sky, their presence instantly exerting overwhelming pressure.

These creatures were grotesque—their heads resembled those of dragons, their bloated bodies like small hills, covered in dark green scales. They had three stubby legs, an immensely muscular upper body, and disproportionately long arms ending in claws that emitted an eerie vapor. A massive tail dragged behind them. Their four eyes glowed with a sinister crimson light, exuding a malevolent aura.

Ba An!

The appearance of leader-class Abyssal creatures signaled that the mastermind behind this Abyss Tide had grown impatient. Otherwise, the flightless Ba An would never have been hurled into the air, attempting to bypass the frontline Mecha to strike at the long-range fighters in the rear.

Such crude tactics were naturally ineffective. Beams of violent energy flashed through the air, and the airborne Ba An had no ability to resist, instantly riddled with holes before dissipating into streams of air.

Jing Shaoyu opened his eyes. Since the enemy could no longer restrain themselves, neither would he.

Previously, he had held back, fearing that rash action might disrupt the battle formation. But now that the war had reached its most intense phase and the enemy had struck first, there was no need for further hesitation.

A flash of light appeared beside him as his four Soul Spirits materialized. He commanded, "Act freely. Hong Fei, An Ya, pay extra attention to the warriors of the Blood God Legion."

"Yes!" The Soul Spirits immediately sprang into action. A Phoenix and two Unicorns charged into the battlefield, while another Phoenix remained by Jing Shaoyu's side.

"Why are you still not moving?" Jing Shaoyu asked Leng Yulai with an impassive expression.

"I wanted to stay with you!" Leng Yulai cooed in an exaggeratedly seductive tone. Even in her Soul Spirit form, her alluring charm was unmistakable, irritating Jing Shaoyu.

"Unnecessary," he replied flatly. "If you don't want to cultivate, then return."

"Hmph! Such a cold little man!" Leng Yulai huffed indignantly before raising her phoenix head. In the next instant, a dark-golden Phoenix plunged into the Abyss army, spewing Dark Phoenix Flames from her beak. Hundreds of Abyssal creatures evaporated instantly, their Life Energy swiftly devoured by the Dark Phoenix.

The Doomsday Divine Spear's soul-devouring ability was effective not only against beings of the Douluo Continent but also against Abyssal creatures.

With the Abyss Tide surging and low-tier Abyssal creatures swarming, it would be a waste not to let the Soul Spirits unleash their full potential.

As the four Soul Spirits joined the fray, the frontline Mecha warriors finally found some relief. At the same time, the Battle Armor Masters, who had been waiting for their moment, surged onto the battlefield, clashing fiercely with the Abyssal horde.

While his Soul Spirits fought, Jing Shaoyu didn't remain idle either. With a flick of his wrist, the Doomsday Divine Spear appeared in his grasp. In the next instant, he vanished, reappearing on the battlefield. A single sweeping strike cleared a radius of over ten meters of Abyssal creatures.

"Brothers! The Eternal Sovereign fights alongside us—what is there to fear? Charge with me!" roared Jiang Wuyue, commander of the Ironblood Battalion and leader of the Battle Armor Masters. As a Two-Word Battle Armor Master with the Tyrannosaurus Martial Soul, his body rapidly expanded before he plunged into the battle.

The Battle Armor Masters followed closely behind, engaging the increasingly powerful Abyssal creatures.

Jing Shaoyu stood out conspicuously. Within three minutes of joining the battle, he had already drawn the attention of high-ranking Abyssal beings, who immediately launched assaults against him.

The first was a black-armored woman who shot out from the Abyss Passage, landing before Jing Shaoyu in the blink of an eye. Her hands unleashed violent black energy streams aimed directly at his face. Jing Shaoyu swiftly raised his spear to block before exerting force—the Doomsday Divine Spear shattered the dark currents and struck the woman, sending her flying hundreds of meters away.

The black-armored woman was towering, standing over three meters tall with a curvaceous figure. Were it not for the black scales covering her body, she would have been an unparalleled beauty. A pair of wings extended from her back, their tips ending in sharp bone claws.

The Black Emperor, a top-tier Abyss creature, was a lord-class being like the Enchantress Emperor. The one before them was an adult Black Emperor, its strength comparable to a Titled Douluo of the ninety-first or ninety-second rank.

After being sent flying by Jing Shaoyu's spear strike, it tumbled hundreds of meters through the air before being caught by another Black Emperor. However, its life force had already weakened to the extreme—every bone shattered, even its scales cracked and peeled away, revealing horrifying black fluid.

It was clearly beyond saving.

"Eternal Sovereign is mighty!" The Blood God Legion soldiers who witnessed this scene erupted in excited cheers.

This was a Black Emperor! Their Ironblood Regiment would need meticulous planning just to hunt one down. Yet Jing Shaoyu had slain one with a single spear strike—what an incredible morale boost!

Seizing the momentum, Jing Shaoyu charged toward the two Black Emperors, the Doomsday Divine Spear in hand.

The second Black Emperor, seeing this, immediately cradled the dying one and fled toward the Abyss Passage without hesitation. As high-level Abyss creatures, their intelligence rivaled humans—they knew when to retreat.

Jing Shaoyu naturally wouldn't let them escape. Silver light flashed as his figure vanished, reappearing instantly before the fleeing Black Emperors. An orange-gold Soul Ring lit up behind him as terrifying killing intent erupted from his body. The Doomsday Divine Spear transformed into a blood-red lance, piercing through the void with his movement and skewering both Black Emperors together before pinning them violently to the ground.

Dense, nearly tangible killing intent exploded outward, instantly reducing hundreds of surrounding Abyss creatures to dust.

Fourth Soul Skill—Spear of Carnage!

The few Black Emperors and Fiend Succubi watching from afar felt their scalps tingle with primal fear and fury.
