Chapter 26 - The Messenger.

Mr. Thomeson met Hugo when he was eighteen, when the ripe age lingered at the edge of his youth between innocence and ambition of what he would aspire to become.

The doorbell began brrring and didn't stop, a maddening, mechanical whine. Mr. Thomeson pulled open the heavy oak door to confront the stranger on his stoop, who was none other than Hugo with a wrinkled letter in his hands, tucked under his coat. "Are you Mr. Woodson?" Hugo questioned. "That's my father." said Mr. Thomeson. Then Hugo handed him the wrinkled letter and said " I work at 'The Revived'. This letter is addressed to Mr.Woodson. The letter went astray. We're sorry for the delay." To which Mr. Thomeson replied"Oh! I will hand this to him. He can't attend you to the door. Thank you for your service." 'The Revived'is a company run by a rich merchant by the name Cooper. It's a company that functions to send the lost letters to their destination.

Hugo then rushed off to his next destination even when Mr. Thomeson invited him over for a cup of hot tea and a roof to shelter him from rain. Later Mr. Thomeson slowly marched towards his father's office and handed him the letter. "Father someone named Catharin wrote to you, here." said Mr. Thomeson as he handed his father the letter. His father's eyes widen in shock, and his brow furrows in a displeased scowl. A sharp intake of breath, a quick flinch and a sudden tense posture as he read the first lines. The letter trembles in his hand as he reread a specific, infuriating sentence. He slammed the letter on the desk and asked Mr. Thomeson to leave. He was quite taken a back. He couldn't sleep a wink that night. The next day, when his father when out in a rush, he sneaked into his father's office and looked everywhere for that old winked letter but it was no where to be found. Then he recalled that his father had a secret drawer in the cupboard where he kept the most confidential files. He lifted the rug for the key to the drawer and opened it, only to find the jaw dropping truth..
