The terrifying energy had vanished. Everything fell silent again, save for a few loose stones clattering down the rubble.
Ethan's figure—and The Cosmic Core—were both gone.
The zombies all shuddered, a creeping sense of dread washing over them.
"Where's the boss?"
"Where'd he go? I can't feel a trace of his presence."
"Don't tell me… he went down with The Cosmic Core?"
"…"
The thought hit them like a punch to the gut. Panic set in as the horde of zombies frantically scanned the area.
But the battlefield was empty. Not a single sign of Ethan remained.
Some of the zombies even let out anguished howls, raw and guttural.
"Hahahahaha! He's dead!"
Suddenly, a crazed laugh rang out from the rubble.
Endless rose from the debris, hair wild, body covered in dust and grime. He looked like hell—but his eyes gleamed with manic triumph.
He'd been the closest to The Cosmic Core. He'd seen it all.
