Chapter 167 - CHAPTER 166

— WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? — asked Clooney.

— This is a message! — Martin replied excitedly.

—Explain. — Benedetti chewed potato chips from a bag.

— I'll explain on the way. — Martin said, picking up his things and heading towards the back exit.

The three of them followed the same route, heading to the street where the car was parked. On the way to the address indicated by the young man, he explained:

— One of the things we celebrated that day was the purchase of our house. Mary lived at that address, but it wasn't mine, so we got together and negotiated her purchase so we could live together. Everything was going well, until the accident happened. When it was all over, I couldn't live there, but I kept everything as it was until I was able to deal with the memories.

—But you still have the house today? — asked Clooney in a disapproving tone.

— Well... — he replied thoughtfully. — The Bureau ended up consuming me, I couldn't think about other things anymore...

— It makes sense... — Clooney said, struggling to understand him.

—But let's get back to the subject at hand. — interrupted Benedetti, who hated talking about memories and love problems. Martin went back to the facts:

— I believe the man I met earlier was responsible for this, for the attack on Fifth Avenue. He wants me to come to this house for some reason. I believe there is some answer there.

—But why didn't he send you a message or something? — asked Carl Benedetti.

— Thanks to our investigation, he was discovered and is now being pursued by Gregory Evans as well. Any message or electronic contact could be intercepted, which would make everything very risky. Plus, he said something about giving me proof that someone more powerful than the President is behind all this.

Hearing this, Brad and Tony were stunned.

More powerful than the President?

Martin had to explain everything he had discussed with Payne, so that they would accept the idea that Kenan, or someone close to him, could be responsible for something macabre. Still resistant to the assumption, they had no other option but the one they were following: going to the aforementioned address.
