In Konoha's main base;
Naruto reached the main base before heading directly to the main tent. As he entered, he saw that Shikaku and Inoichi were the only ones inside.
"Naruto, you're back?" Shikaku exclaimed in surprise and a bit of relief.
"Yes, I just arrived back at base. I need to deliver this to you in person as it's very important," Naruto replied simply as he started to unravel the scroll he was carrying.
"What was that explosion, Naruto? We could see and feel its effects from here." Inoichi asked with a little unease. He and Shikaku are still a bit shaken by what they have witnessed.
"It was a bijuudama," Naruto said as he unsealed Yugito.
Shikaku and Inobichi didn't comment on that as they were busy being shocked at the sight of who Naruto just unsealed. As Konoha's Jonin commander and the head of Konoha's intelligence, they knew exactly who the young lady was who was unconscious in front of them.
"I was able to capture her. I already sent someone to inform Hokage-sama. I should get a reply any minute now." Naruto said as he sealed back the prisoner transport scroll.
"Naruto, ho...."
Pooof
Shikaku was interrupted by a puff of smoke appearing near Naruto. As the smoke dissipated, Katsuyu came into view as she looked at Naruto.
"Naruto-kun, Sarutobi-sama wants you to secure the Nibi jincjuuriki at the main base before heading immediately back to the frontline and taking command. He said he will be joining you as soon as possible."Katsuyu said to Naruto.
"Ok, and thank you, Katsuyu," Naruto said, to which Katsuyu nodded before disappearing.
"I will be going. I will leave her to you." Naruto said before disappearing in a burst of speed.
"Naruto, wait," Inoichi called, but Naruto was long gone.
"Just secure the prisoner, Inoichi," Shikaku said with a sigh.
"But we haven't been briefed on what happened on the frontline. Why does Hokage-sama need to come personally?" Inoichi inquired.
"Since Naruto captured the Nibi Jinchuuriki, it is safe to assume that we won the first battle against Kumo. As for Hokage-sama, with the capture of the Nibi Jinchuuriki, it is almost guaranteed that the Raikage will rush to the battlefield as soon as he gets the news." Shikaku said as he mentally praised Naruto for informing the Hokage so quickly.
"Naruto," Tsunade called as she barged into the tent, scaring Shikaku and Inoichi as they didn't see or hear her coming.
"Where is he?" Tsunade asked impatiently and with worry in her voice. She had heard that Naruto was sighted returning to the base, so she left a shadow clone to do her work and rushed towards the main base.
"He has returned to the frontlines, Tsunade-sama," Inoichi said as he took a calming breath.
"What? Why?" Tsunade snapped with slight anger in her voice.
"Hokage-sama's orders, Tsunade-sama," Inoichi said as he sweated slightly.
Upon hearing that, Tsunade cursed silently to herself.
"Was he fine? Did he look hurt anywhere?" Tsunade asked, worry returning to her voice.
"Other than his clothes looking a bit rough, he didn't seem hurt or bleeding anywhere. There wasn't something out of the ordinary with him, so he is fine." Shikaku said, making Tsunade let out a sigh of relief.
"That is good, I…What is she doing here?" Tsunade said as her eyes widened upon laying on the familiar unconscious figure laying on the ground.
" That is who Naruto came to deliver; he had captured her." Shikaku said.
Hearing this, Tsunade turned and looked towards the direction of the frontlines with a complicated look on her face. This was either very good or very bad. She silently hoped that it was good.
A few minutes later, near where Naruto and Yugito's battle took place;
As Naruto reached the remnants of his battle against Yugito, he spotted that the third regiment, which he had led to battle, had come back and had now started to look through the battlefield.
"Naruto," Reiko called as he appeared, making the Shinobi around look at their regiment commander with awe and a bit of lingering fear.
"You are back already?" Naruto asked
"Hiashi-san has secured the border, so we came back to assess the damage that our regiment sustained," Reiko said, to which Naruto nodded.
"Prioritize the injured and send them back to get treated, then retrieve the bodies of our fallen and seal them in empty storage scrolls to be sent back to the village for proper burial. Also, have everyone in the regiment accounted for so we can figure out if anyone is missing." Naruto ordered, to which the Shinobi around him nodded.
"Have the captured and the lightly injured Kumo shinobi escorted back to the base. Leave their fate to Shikaku-san and Inoichi-san. As for the heavily injured ones, finish them off before burying them along with their dead in deep mass graves." Naruto said blankly, the high-ranking and experienced Shinobi nodded, while many others flinched at how cold and nonchalant Naruto seemed, saying that.
"You seem to want to say something?" Naruto said, looking at a genin who opened and closed his mouth several times.
"Say what you want," Naruto said to the genin.
"Is killing them really necessary? They are already defeated. Can't we take them as prisoners like the others?" the genin asked with uncertainty.
"You seem to misunderstand something. We are at war with Kumo, a war we don't know when it will end. It is illogical to waste our resources and supplies on our enemy when we don't know how long we are going to fight them for. Better save the supplies for our troops instead of heavily injured enemy prisoners." Naruto said, to which the genin nodded slowly.
"But what about burying them. Isn't the norm to burn them?" Another genin asked, slightly confused.
"For normal missions, yes. But burning them here will give away the location, along with giving off the smell of burning flesh, which the cool wind from the land of frost will carry towards our main base, which I know for sure that they won't appreciate." Naruto said.
"If we are done here, then go back to work," Naruto said, making the gathered Shinobi disperse.
"Reiko, are you still able to accompany me, or do you need to rest?" Naruto asked Reiko, who still stood near him.
"I am still good to go," Reiko replied. She was still fine with her chakra reserves only decreasing a bit.
"Good, then come with me. We are going to stay at the frontline for some time." Naruto said before disappearing in a burst of speed, followed by Reiko.
To be continued.
