For example, the most famous Vairocana Buddha was sculpted in the image of Wu Zetian.
There is a story behind this.
One morning, while Wu Zetian was dressing up, Gaozong praised beside her, "Zitong's features are dignified and noble, with the demeanor of a Bodhisattva." Hearing this, Wu Zetian immediately wiped her tears and said, "No matter how beautiful one is now, a hundred years later, it will all be a pile of bones. Who will know my appearance?"
Gaozong said, "What's difficult about that? I'll command a painter to create a fine portrait of Zitong."
