I was surrounded by leering men when suddenly Sasha came. She told them to leave us alone. They changed into monsters. Sasha smiled as she looked around and turned into a different kind of monster. Then she said plainly, "Nobody hurts my friends." She proceeded to hurt them all before she changed back and ushered us away. Cathy came and Sasha took off her silver bracelet and pressed it into her hand as security came through. Cathy ran towards the woods as the groundskeeper started shooting. Sasha kept us calm before we were escorted back to our dorms. I sat down to rethink my life. For the past month people have been saying non-humans are dangerous and we should trust our own species. Now a friend that I had known for months who appeared human but actually a monster just risked life and limb to save me. I looked up to see Annie packing up. So was everyone else. Irene used her hacking skills and switched our living space so we would be with Sasha. As we hastily gathered our belongings we knew life as we know it was over
She is sitting in the corner of the room as we approach led with caution. I felt apprehensive but not condescending. She waved her hand as though she was saying 'Please start your questions'. I didn't know where to begin. So she asked for an introduction from the new girls. The first to speak was a skinny girl with raven hair. She said her name was Irene. She moved to the States with her family from Ukraine. Sasha shook her hand and told her Sasha's father was from Ukraine too. She was happy to meet someone from her home country. The next one introduced herself as Molly but refused to say anything further. She had light brown hair and an athletic body. Sasha blushed slightly making her look human and endearing, "I guess it is my turn. My name is Alexandria Petrov My dad calls me Sasha. I was born with a rare illness. I used to be in and out of hospital till two weeks ago. I was sick of my situation and prayed for a way out. A few days later I overheard two men talking about a box with the cure to all problems. I waited till they left and I checked inside. I wanted to use it but resisted till I heard the doctor tell my mom that if I don't get better with these new meds she should start making arrangements for my funeral. So I waited for the perfect moment and snuck in and used the contents of the box. After that my health improved drastically. My illness was finally beaten. When I went camping with you guys. I started to change. Four days later was my last physical change now I am this permanently."
Alice raised her hand and asked, "How sick were you?" She lowered her head, "Whenever I was hooked to the machine. It better keep working till they detach it I will die slowly and painfully." Alice looked sad as did the others. Molly nodded to agree that she has known helplessness. She explained that she was in an accident and she was severely incapacitated till her dad fixed her. She understood how it felt to lose the ability to do things. Sasha looked at the door as though she had heard someone coming. Molly just mentioned it was the janitor and his assistant looking for the bucket and mop. I took a step back. Sasha turned to look at Molly. Understanding dawned on her face, "You are a bionic woman" she exclaimed. Molly smiled, "You have x-ray vision. I guess it is one of the perks of being what you are." Sasha gave her a fearful nod.
Sasha asked Irene why she was here and she explained that her mom told her to find the toughest kid in the playground and be friends with them. Sasha was the toughest kid in the playground. She smiled, "Thanks" The others seemed to agree. Molly wanted to know what else Sasha could do. Irene sensed that Molly was up to something so she cut her off asking her how painful her sick days were. It took us a moment to figure out what was going on. We saw Molly's face and I wanted to know the symptoms of her condition. Finally Molly got tired and she promised to continue in the morning. She walked out of the room and I somehow exhaled a breath I was holding. Sasha explained what was going on and used her cellphone and dialed my number. She told me to keep the phone on speaker and listen closely.
Molly was telling her dad about her situation and how the bionics were starting to fail her. She told her dad about Sasha and asked if he could extract something from her and make Molly better just like her. She had seen Sasha's wounds heal at torpedo speed. Her father asked her to stay with us and tell nobody about her since the military had confiscated his stuff. He is looking for someone else to fund his bionics program. He promised to fix her so she won't be jealous of what others have. As for Sasha they will tell the government about my existence only if he is in charge of dissecting her. She seemed pissed, "Dad what if injecting her blood would regrow my arm and legs." He explained that what she was proposing is impossible. She was upset to hear this but she didn't give up. She wants to be free of machines that require upkeep. She wanted to be like her. Sasha used her gifts to protect. Molly seemed like the person looking for new ways to cause trouble. He finally said, "If you find out what her abilities are and how she regenerates from her injuries then maybe it is possible but until I have all the information I am afraid you are stuck with those machines." She happily promised to keep him updated. Sasha quickly ran to us and I expressed my displeasure. The whole point was not to expose anyone and she was going to do that. So before she came back Alice called the headmistress as Irene hacked the school's computer system to place Molly elsewhere. When Molly arrived she was told that there was a mistake and she was moved to the other wing. She knew that we did something but she couldn't prove it so she left quietly. Irene made it so that her cousin Sonja moved in and she promised to keep the whole thing a secret. But the problem was Molly. She wanted to know what Sasha was and wanted to replicate. Two of the same things don't always result in goodness. She will do anything to get what she wants. Alice bet that tomorrow she will ask Sasha to display her ability.
True to her words the next day after school we were waiting to go to the library to finish our literature homework. We heard a commotion She followed Sasha till she saw the others. I gave her the look of death. She stared back at us with equal or more intense hatred but left the moment Alice approached the security. We sat down to finish my homework. While we got exhausted she kept going. I asked her if she was going to sleep and she let slip that ever since she took this thing 2 weeks ago she haven't been able to sleep. Her body has learnt to live without sleep. I was surprised but let it go and went to sleep. Sasha was proofreading her work and subtly rubbed her throat. She looked thirsty as she grabbed a bottle of water. She drank it and looked refreshed. I watched her sit on the windowsill and watched the bats fly around and opened the window. She made a gesture to summon them. They came in their thousands and swarmed around her like she was their long lost relative. They swirled and danced around and then they made themselves at home on the ceiling. She chuckled at their boldness and turned towards her room to see the look of horror on our faces as we staring at the bats. I had never been more frightened my entire life. She gave an understanding nod and asked them to have a safe flight. They swirled around her like they were giving her a goodbye hug and flew out the window in a spiral formation.
