Chapter 194 - Chapter 193: So much for being polite

There was lot of noise in Moonwood Town today because there was an Ace battle scheduled between the Town's Gym Leader and a former military ace trainer.

Gladion stood in his private quarters at Moonwood Gym. He was itching for the ace battle scheduled today—the first in ages where he could unleash his full power.

'Finally, something worth my time,' he thought. Gym battles had become a snooze fest, forcing him to hold back against rookie trainers to give them a chance. He could not even use his main team Pokemon in those battles and had to use some random Pokemon that he had caught.

'Boring as hell,' Gladion grumbled internally. 'I'm stuck smiling, giving weaklings advice on battling when I really want to tell them they're pathetic, better off running home to suck on their mommies' nipples than embarrassing themselves here.' He chuckled, 'If only I could roast them properly—'Nice Tackle, kid, did your Magikarp teach you that?''

The past month had been full of stress, draining his patience. First, the Gyarados attack on Moonwood Town had pushed his psychic powers to their limits, knocking him unconscious.

In his sleep, he'd had a dream—vague, but he definitely knew that it was tied to the source of his unnaturally strong psychic abilities.

'Something big, but I can't piece it together,' Gladion thought, frustrated. Latios and Latias, his "big brother and sister," knew something about it and why he has such high psychic powers but they refused to spill.

"Some things you must understand yourself," they'd said, their voices cryptic.

'Thanks for nothing, you cryptic dragons,' he thought, rolling his eyes. 'What's the point of having Legendary siblings if they gatekeep the good stuff?'

Then came Team Rocket's indirect attack on him—negative PR campaigns smearing his name.

He'd turned it around, digging up dirt to arrest two corrupt League officials and two minor Gym Leaders tied to Team Rocket.

Next was joining the Aura Guardians brought its own headaches—his first mission ended with the grim discovery of murdered bodies in Vermilion Port.

He still saw those dead bodies in his dreams.

Then there was the League meeting which was a political minefield, with Blackthorn Clan drama and his anti-corruption push. To be honest, he found politics fun so he could not complain much on that.

The one silver lining? The Froakie he'd smuggled.

It was still a rowdy little frog. It still tries to Water Pulse Gladion every chance it gets, but it's coming around. Guy decided that Froakie needed to man up and start training if he wanted to escape from here, he needed to be stronger.

And thus, Froakie began his training to become strong enough to escape from Gladion and his estate. All his previous attempts were foiled by Zeus wire like tails wrapping around him and once a giant Venasaur threw him back into the estate's pond with a vine whip.

Anyways, Gladion's blood thrummed with anticipation. 'Nothing beats crushing ace trainers and their Pokémon so hard their spirits break, leaving them questioning why they ever stepped into a arena or why they became a trainer,' he thought.

'I want them crying into their Poké Balls, swearing off battling forever. Call it therapy—my kind of fun.' Gladion's Pokémon were just as restless. His team was bored out of their skulls with not having participated in a team battle for some time.

He recalled Guy who was training obsessively to "maintain his youth," lifting boulders like they were Pecha Berries to compensate for the lack of real fights.

Lee, his Annihilape, had been a nightmare, throwing tantrums over the lack of battles. He was screaming like a toddler who lost his favorite toy.

Gladion remembered how Collosus stopped Lee's rampage. 'Colossus who got annoyed by Lee's behaviour had to yeet him into a wall to shut him up. Poor guy—well, poor wall.'

His team needed this battle as much as he did. 'I might have to make them spar against each other seriously to keep them sharp. Can't have Lee trashing the gym because he's cranky.'

Gladion strode toward the arena. The Moonwood Gym stadium was packed, half the crowd from the booming Moonwood Town, its population swelling with new residents.

Others hailed from nearby cities, some teleporting from afar via Pokémon services to catch a rare ace battle featuring a Major Gym Leader.

'Look at this turnout," Gladion thought, his smirk sly. 'Ticket sales are gonna be juicy, and with the battle televised, I'm pocketing 60 percent of the revenue. Shame the League skims the rest.'

He stepped onto the arenas, the crowd's cheers washing over him. His opponent, Aaron, a burly water specialist, awaited him.

Gladion extended a hand with a polite smile. As they shook, Aaron leaned in, his voice a low, menacing growl. "Kid, you're going down today. You'll learn you're just a small fish. First, I'll beat you, then I'll tank your reputation. It'll be fun making your Pokémon agonize in pain. You shouldn't have messed with our plans with Mayor Victor, little boy."

Gladion's smile widened,"Oh… now this is interesting..... And so much for being polite."
