Chapter 165 - Chapter 164: Moonwood's Defense (1)

As the Gyarados came into view, everyone was shaken up. They could see eighteen Gyarados surging toward the town, their massive forms slicing through the waves at terrifying speed.

Gladion could see some trainers—some navy, others civilian volunteers—gripped their Poké Balls, their faces pale, eyes wide with dread.

The civilians, especially, trembled, their Pokémon—Growlithe, Pidgeotto, even a shaky Psyduck—shifting nervously.

'They're not soldiers,' Gladion thought, his psychic senses brushing their auras—fear, doubt, but a flicker of courage. 'They're scared, but they're here. That's enough.'

"Listen up!" Gladion shouted, his voice cutting through the Gyarados' roars, "Why are y'all scared of some stupid water snakes?"

The trainers blinked, startled by his bluntness. "Moonwood's come a long way these past few years. We've built this town with our blood, sweat, and tears—new homes, shops, the gym, the ranch. You gonna let a bunch of overgrown Magikarp tear it down?"

A few trainers shook their heads, gripping their Poké Balls tighter. Gladion's smirk was fierce, his eyes blazing. "Think of your families, your friends, your neighbors—they're in those bunkers, counting on us. You're the line between them living or dying today. You're Moonwood's shield!"

A young trainer, barely older than Gladion, muttered, "But… Gyarados, man. They're monsters." G

ladion's aura flared, his voice softening but firm. "Yeah, they're monsters. But we're residents of Moonwood. My grandpa, Maren Vortex, fought wars to keep this town safe. My dad's out there breeding Pokémon to make us strong. My mom's fire burns in every one of us. We don't back down." He paused, his smirk turning wicked.

"And don't you dare get yourselves killed. I'm not breaking the news to your parents, and I pity the fool who tells my mom and dad I'm gone. Mom's Charizard would roast 'em, and Dad would drown them in tears!"

The trainers burst into laughter, the tension easing, their auras brightening with resolve. A navy soldier chuckled, "Kid's got a point. Erza's scary!" Gladion grinned.

'This isn't a Pokémon battle,' Gladion thought, his psychic aura coiling inward, focusing. 'This is life or death—for Moonwood, my home since I was born. For my family, my Pokémon, Grandpa's legacy. That means it's time to go all out.'

He closed his eyes, his psychic powers surging to their peak, his aura glowing faintly around him. He channeled his energy into his eyes, activating Future Sight, a forbidden psychic ability no human should or has any right to wield.

His vision blurred, then sharpened, revealing thirty seconds of the future—Gyarados unleashing whirlpools, ships destroyed, Hydropumps, chaos. The vision faded, a minute cooldown ticking in his mind.

'Got it.'

"Get the ships out!" Gladion barked, pointing to the navy vessels bobbing near the shore. "Move them left and right, away from the town's front. The Gyarados are about to use Whirlpool—they'll shred those ships if they stay put. Fire cannonballs from the sides!" Torres, the Navy Marshal, blinked, confused, but relayed the order.

"You heard the Gym Leader! Ships, flank the coast!" Sailors scrambled, engines roaring as the vessels veered away. Moments later, massive whirlpools erupted where the ships had been, churning the sea into a frothy maelstrom.

Trainers gasped, their auras spiking with awe. "How'd he know?" a ranger muttered. Gladion smirked.

The Gyarados were closer now, their scales glinting, eyes glowing with rage. Gladion's vision flickered again, Future Sight ready. He saw ten Gyarados in front charging Hydro Pumps, while four at the back prepared Hurricanes.

"Listen up!" he shouted. "The front ten Gyarados are about to fire Hydro Pumps. Every Water-type trainer—Golduck, Kingler, Hydros, Mystique—hit back with your own Hydro Pumps to block them. The back four are charging Hurricanes. Barrier or Protect users—set up defenses now! Everyone else with small Pokémon, grab something solid or find shelter. You don't want to fly in that storm!"

Trainers sprang into action. Hydros and Mystique, Gladion's Blastoise and Milotic, led the charge, their Hydro Pumps clashing with the Gyarados' in a deafening roar, water spraying like a geyser.

Neither side gained ground, the attacks canceling out. At the rear, Ultron's Psychic barriers shimmered, joined by navy's Pokemon casting Protect.

The Hurricanes hit, a howling vortex of wind and water, but the barriers held, deflecting debris and shielding trainers. A Pidgey, caught in the gust, was saved by a ranger's quick grab. "Thanks, Gladion!" the ranger yelled.

Gladion's vision flickered again, Future Sight showing four Gyarados at the back charging another Hurricane barrage, their tails whipping the sea into a single, massive vortex.

Panic rippled through the trainers—Protect moves were on cooldown, barriers weakened. "They're doing it again!" a trainer shouted, voice cracking. "We can't block another!"

Gladion glanced at Colossus, his Alpha Tyranitar, whose massive form loomed beside him, claws flexing.

"Colossus," Gladion said, his voice low, commanding, "fire your strongest Hyper Beam at the center of that Hurricane. Your power can punch through and hit the core, even from here." Colossus roared, the sound shaking the shore, its tail lashing as energy gathered in its maw, a glowing orb of pure destruction.
