Chapter 539: Bloodline Test, Return of the Mang Tian Ruler
The news of Mo Yu successfully subduing the Black Thunder Banner spread like wildfire, quickly reaching every corner of the Lei Clan. Many were curious about this member of the Mo family who had grown up outside the clan but was personally appointed as the Black Thunder Captain by the clan leader.
The events that had taken place at the Black Thunder Training Field soon became widely known within the Lei Realm. When it was revealed that Mo Yu had defeated Geng Xiong, a well-known figure within the Lei Clan, in a single strike, Mo Yu's name quickly became recognized throughout the realm.
Geng Xiong was regarded as one of the more outstanding talents among the younger generation of the Lei Clan. To defeat him in one move was a feat only accomplished by the top eight captains or the four generals. Mo Yu's ability to do so demonstrated his formidable strength.
While the Lei Realm buzzed with rumors about Mo Yu, who had gained the loyalty of the Black Thunder Banner, he himself returned to Mo Mountain to rest in a guest room.
The night was serene, with moonlight gently draping the land like a silver veil. The mountain range was bathed in this cool glow, and in the heart of the mountains, clusters of buildings stood majestically, exuding an ancient atmosphere under the moonlight.
Many of the buildings were brightly lit, as the Lei Clan was in the midst of a celebratory period, with festive decorations creating an air of joy. However, atop a distant and quiet peak, away from the grandeur, tranquility reigned. It was a place of peace, far removed from the hustle and bustle below.
On the peak, two figures dressed in white stood elegantly, their eyes gazing toward the brightly lit buildings in the distance.
"Why aren't you two resting yet?" Mo Yu asked with a gentle smile as he approached them.
"So, this is the Lei Clan... It doesn't seem all that different from the outside world," Xiao Yixian and Qing Lin said with a smile as they turned to look at the approaching Mo Yu.
"Other than the fact that the people here have the bloodline of the Dou Di (Battle Emperor), it's true that there isn't much difference. The people here are no different from ordinary folk in Zhongzhou. The Dou Di bloodline brings both glory and pressure. Those with a weaker concentration of the bloodline probably don't have an easy life here," Mo Yu said calmly as he gazed at the brightly lit buildings.
Though the eight ancient clans were considered the most powerful human forces, and they appeared incredibly prestigious to the outside world, the challenges they faced were something only their own members could truly understand.
Thousands of years ago, Xiao Xuan, the leader of the Xiao Clan, had tried to preserve the bloodline concentration within his clan by exhausting its entire bloodline power, but ultimately failed, leading to the clan's destruction. If not for the bloodline remnants left behind in the Xiao Clan of Wu Tan City, the Xiao Clan would have been wiped from history entirely.
Even Yaolao (Yao Chen), the most renowned alchemist in Zhongzhou, had come from the Yao Clan, one of the eight ancient clans. Yet, his heritage hadn't helped him—he was disregarded due to his low status within the clan, and he faced a life filled with hardship, even being exiled.
Mo Yu was keenly aware of this reality. Beyond the grandeur associated with the eight ancient clans, they were not so different from ordinary noble families, except for their long histories and great power.
"Strength always comes with a price," Xiao Yixian and Qing Lin nodded thoughtfully after hearing Mo Yu's explanation.
As the three of them admired the unique landscape of the Lei Realm, the sound of rushing wind suddenly came from behind the peak, causing Mo Yu's brow to furrow. He called out coldly, "Who's there?"
"Haha, Black Thunder Captain, no need to be alarmed. This old man means no harm."
With these words, an elderly figure appeared, smiling kindly at the three.
Mo Yu's frown deepened as he looked at the mysterious old man. "Sir, you must be a member of the Lei Clan if you're able to approach us here. Since you recognize my identity, why sneak around like this?"
Mo Yu wasn't pleased with the interruption, as he had been enjoying a peaceful moment with Xiao Yixian and Qing Lin. His mood soured at the sudden intrusion.
The old man smiled. "I apologize for the intrusion. I'm here on behalf of the young lady, so please forgive my rudeness."
"Young lady?" Xiao Yixian and Qing Lin exchanged puzzled glances. Then, as if realizing something, Qing Lin asked softly, "Could the young lady you mentioned be my master's fiancée, Miss Lei Fei'er?"
The old man chuckled. "Yes, indeed. I am Lin Xiao, Miss Fei'er's steward."
"Lei Fei'er's steward…" Mo Yu was momentarily surprised. He scrutinized the elderly man before him, noting that while the old man didn't possess great power, he seemed to be a kind and gentle figure.
"Ah, it's you, Lin Lao. What brings you here?" Mo Yu clasped his hands respectfully, addressing the old man politely.
Although Lin Xiao was only at the Dou Zong (Battle Ancestor) level and wasn't particularly strong, his role as Lei Fei'er's steward indicated that he was likely a trusted aide of Lei Ying, the clan leader. Therefore, Mo Yu treated him with courtesy.
"Thank you for your courtesy, Captain. I'm here to deliver a message from Miss Fei'er," Lin Lao replied, smiling warmly, much like a kindly grandfather.
"A message from Lei Fei'er?" Mo Yu was puzzled, and Xiao Yixian and Qing Lin also exchanged curious glances, unsure of what Lei Fei'er was up to.
"What did Miss Fei'er want to say to me?" Mo Yu asked, still calm despite his curiosity about his unseen fiancée.
Lin Lao smiled. "Miss Fei'er says that if you want to marry her, having extraordinary talent is not enough—you must also possess a divine-grade bloodline."
"A divine-grade bloodline?" Mo Yu raised an eyebrow.
He knew that the ancient clans placed great importance on bloodlines, even categorizing them into ten grades, with the first being the lowest and the tenth the highest. The highest grade, known as the divine-grade bloodline, was incredibly rare. Currently, the only known possessors of divine-grade bloodlines were Xun'er of the Gu Clan and a few members of the Hun Clan.
For Lei Fei'er to demand that Mo Yu possess a divine-grade bloodline in order to marry her was quite an audacious request.
"What if I don't meet that requirement? Does Lei Fei'er plan to call off the engagement?" Although Mo Yu had some doubts about whether he could possess a divine-grade bloodline, he couldn't resist making a witty retort, a smirk playing on his lips.
He wasn't about to let his proud fiancée think she could easily hold something over him.
Lin Lao was momentarily taken aback by Mo Yu's response but soon smiled again. "Given that the clan leader personally selected you, Captain Mo, your bloodline must be extraordinary. While divine-grade bloodlines are indeed rare, it's not impossible that you may possess one."
Lin Lao continued with a smile, "In three days, the Lei Clan will hold the Captain Tournament. Before the competition begins, there will be a bloodline test for the younger generation of the Lei Clan. Miss Fei'er hopes that Captain Mo will perform well and not disappoint her."
With those words, Lin Lao bowed slightly to Mo Yu before quietly disappearing into the shadows.
"A bloodline test…" Mo Yu muttered softly to himself.
For the ancient clans, bloodline testing was a sacred and important ceremony. It was the gateway through which many ordinary clan members ascended to greatness, becoming the pride of the Lei Clan.
"Master, do you really possess a divine-grade bloodline?" Qing Lin asked, her eyes filled with admiration.
Though she didn't fully understand what a divine-grade bloodline entailed, the name alone, along with Lei Fei'er's emphasis on it, suggested it was something extraordinary.
Xiao Yixian also glanced at Mo Yu, curious about whether someone from the Jia Ma Empire like Mo Yu could possess such a rare and coveted bloodline.
Seeing the curiosity in their eyes, Mo Yu simply smiled mysteriously. He raised his hand and playfully flicked the foreheads of both Xiao Yixian and Qing Lin. "You'll find out soon enough. For now, get some rest," he said with a smile.
After ruffling their hair affectionately, Mo Yu turned and walked back to his room.
"Ugh, Master is so mean…" Qing Lin pouted, dissatisfied with Mo Yu's teasing.
Xiao Yixian, on the other hand, simply smiled as she watched him leave, her fingers gently touching the faint red mark on her forehead.
Three days later, as the first rays of sunlight pierced the horizon, the entire Lei Saint Mountain Range came alive with activity. Figures darted through the skies, and the sounds of celebratory drums echoed across the mountains.
Creak!
The door to Mo Yu's room opened, and he stepped out, dressed in clean robes. As he glanced around the courtyard, he saw that Qing Lin, Xiao Yixian, Mo Feng, and Mo Tao were already waiting for him.
"Master, did you sleep well?" Qing Lin asked with a smile, stepping forward to smooth out the wrinkles in Mo Yu's robe. Her gentle, attentive demeanor made her seem like a doting maid.
It was hard to believe that this woman, known as the powerful Green Snake Sovereign throughout Zhongzhou, could also show such a soft and caring side.
Mo Yu smiled and nodded. Feeling her cool hands brushing against his chest, his heart fluttered slightly. But he quickly calmed himself, then gazed into the distance at the grand structures ahead. "Is the Captain Tournament about to begin?" he asked.
"Yes, it will start soon. The family head has asked us to bring you there," Mo Feng replied respectfully.
Since witnessing Mo Yu's incredible strength at the Black Thunder Training Field, both Mo Feng and Mo Tao had begun treating him with far more deference, no longer seeing him as a peer.
"Alright, let's go," Mo Yu nodded lightly.
With that, Mo Feng gestured, and a majestic, snow-white Thunder Serpent Beast with large, silver wings flew out from the forest and landed in front of them.
Mo Feng and Mo Tao leaped onto the broad back of the Thunder Serpent Beast, and Mo Yu, along with Qing Lin and Xiao Yixian, quickly followed suit.
Once they were all aboard, Mo Feng gently patted the Thunder Serpent Beast, and with a loud roar, the creature flapped its wings and soared toward the grand structures in the distance.
The Thunder Serpent Beast moved swiftly, and in just a few minutes, they arrived at the cluster of buildings. Under Mo Feng's direction, they descended in the center of the complex.
Due to the commotion Mo Yu had caused at the Black Thunder Training Field a few days earlier, their arrival immediately drew attention, with many curious eyes turning in their direction.
"Let's go," Mo Yu said calmly, ignoring the stares as he led Xiao Yixian and the others toward the massive plaza at the heart of the complex.
Around the ancient plaza, soldiers of the Black Demon Army, clad in black armor, stood like statues, their sharp eyes scanning the crowd. When they noticed Mo Yu, many of them recognized him, and their expressions became more respectful.
Though the plaza was already filling with people, Mo Feng led Mo Yu and his group straight to the central seats.
Clang!
As Mo Yu stepped into the area, the sharp clanging of spears echoed, and two soldiers in golden armor crossed their spears to block his path.
Hearing the clash of weapons, Mo Yu frowned slightly, his face darkening.
"This is the Black Thunder Captain! How dare you block his way?" Mo Feng snapped, her voice icy.
The two golden-armored soldiers hesitated at her harsh words.
"Even if he's the Black Thunder Captain, he'll pay for injuring my son!"
A cold voice suddenly rang out. Mo Yu turned to see an older man with a stern, hostile expression. The man bore a striking resemblance to Geng Xiong.
Based on the man's words and appearance, Mo Yu quickly deduced that this must be a senior member of the Geng family, most likely one of Geng Xiong's elders.
The confrontation occurred in a very visible spot, and it immediately attracted the attention of many people nearby. Soon, dozens of eyes were focused on Mo Yu, some watching with interest.
"Geng Xu, you shameless old fool! Are you really stooping to this level? Are you going senile and trying to meddle in the affairs of the younger generation?"
Just as Mo Yu was about to respond, a familiar angry voice rang out, causing him to pause in surprise.
"Mang Tian Ruler?"
Geng Xu also froze, his face changing as he exclaimed, "Mang Tian Ruler?!"
