The strange thing was… it wasn't coming for us. I should be glad, but this oddity made me feel even more nervous and wary.
Even as the Seekers ran in all directions, even as the forest echoed with terror, the beast didn't once turn our way. It tore through the bushes, snapped branches, and chased the Seekers hiding among the trees—almost as if it was hunting them specifically.
Witnessing this one-sided massacre, I was torn apart between retracting my field of influence and letting the Seekers die. If I were to choose the first, then these Seekers would come after us after they killed the animal.
That was for sure. This could be our chance to escape. We didn't have to fight; we could have preserved our strengths.
But just standing here watching until their innards fly in the air was too gruesome and just pure…evil. They were just following orders and were unfortunate enough to encounter a large animal in the forest.
