"But where is the corpse and the sword?"
It was already too late when I realized that I had voiced out my thoughts unconsciously. I did say I was partially blind, but the way I spoke sounded certain.
So I quickly pretended to act, brushing my fingers over a carved pillar. "Seems like there's nothing over here, too."
Claude didn't answer or point out my mistake. He just tried to open a few crates, cabinets, cupboards, and even peeked underneath the bed, but he found nothing. Disappointment was clearly etched on his face.
I cleared my throat and carefully remarked, "Maybe the corpse and the sword weren't true at all…"
There was no other room. There wasn't even a door. What seemed to be the entrance and the windows were blocked by wooden planks. The only way to enter and exit was through the hole.
Claude looked at me. He stared, then his eyes changed. "Or maybe that someone who got here first hid them somewhere."
