"Quick! I'll show you something—oops!"
The voice came from behind me, so I turned around and found a child covering his mouth like he had said something wrong. Then, he bowed his head and scratched the back of it, looking apologetic.
"I'm sorry," the child said with drooping shoulders.
He seemed so upset and disappointed, but I wasn't sure why he was sorry. I couldn't help but stare at the boy who seemed eight or nine years old, and wonder where I'd seen those features.
Bright-colored hair as golden as the sun and sparkling eyes bluer than the ocean. Every strand of his hair shone like a golden thread on a bright day, and his eyes… they shimmered; it was as though I was staring at the water sparkling under the sunlight.
They reminded me of that, and it brought me a sense of peace and calm. They were like orbs of innocence…looking directly at…? Me? I looked around, but there was no one else there but me.
