Chapter 38 - Weapon selection

"NOW YOU ALL WILL PICK A WEAPON! LET ME MAKE THIS CLEAR! THE ACADEMY WILL ONLY PROVIDE YOU WITH ONE WEAPON EVERY YEAR! YOU CANNOT CHANGE A WEAPON AFTER CHOOSING—YOU CAN ONLY BUY! SOMETHING I BELIEVE IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR MOST OF YOU! NOW, THESE WEAPONS ARE BY NO MEANS ORDINARY WEAPONS! THEY ARE RELICS WHICH ARE IMBUED WITH SPECIAL ABILITIES, BUT THAT WILL ONLY BE SEEN IF YOU ARE ABLE TO MANIFEST THESE ABILITIES!"

The man's voice boomed across the stadium, and suddenly, he tapped something on his watch. Magic circles began appearing at every point of the humongous stadium, their intricate patterns glowing with an otherworldly light.

Warp.

This is a large-scale teleportation array, used to transport a large number of people to a hidden location in an instant.

Whoosh!

A brilliant flash of light engulfed us, and suddenly we were standing in an entirely different room.

Damn.

Is this battle maniac's heaven?

The whole place was filled with weapons strategically arranged throughout the space. It was a colossal room, and from the description in the novel, there were multiple floors. So this wasn't the only place with weapons—just the beginning.

"…Oh, Selena." I caught sight of her glancing in my direction, but the next instant she looked away as though she didn't know me.

Is she still mad?

But why?

Why is she even mad in the first place?

Before I could even say anything, she disappeared into the crowd.

Well.

I'll talk to her later.

I looked around the room once more. There were impressive weapons at every corner—swords of all types, spears in multiple varieties, bows, and all sorts of weapons I couldn't even name since I didn't know their names in the first place.

Well, I don't really want any of these weapons. I already know the one I want.

It was a weapon mentioned in the novel, one that the protagonist's ally switched to after he realized the path of the spear wasn't really for him. He picked that sword during the second semester after the sixth arc of the game where he almost lost someone he actually loved. But mind you, that person he fell for at the end of the first year had ironically been crushing over him for the entirety of the first year. It was so obvious that she was hopelessly falling for him, but all that emotion got transferred to the protagonist at the end of that arc. So basically, he got NTR'd after he failed to protect her and the protagonist did it instead.

But all that isn't really my concern.

In fact, I'll have no need for all this after the grading exams since I'll be focusing on alchemy.

And I won't even be here after the first semester, so yeah, this is only temporary.

'You've been talking about a novel for like… the whole morning. What novel is it and why are you thinking about it?' I heard, and my eyes widened.

'You can read my thoughts?'

'What did you think? You are literally communicating with me through your thoughts, and you think I can't read them?' she said, rolling her eyes.

Ah.

Well, that doesn't really matter either way.

I ignored her question and just kept walking.

I began ascending the stairs, but unlike everyone else, I didn't stop at any room. I kept on going and going and going until I reached a floor which was the last we first years could enter. I walked in and just like the others, the place was bright with mana bulbs casting overwhelming brilliance over the whole place.

"Alright… where is that sword?" I muttered, looking about the vast room.

I walked forward, but then, I felt something strange.

I quickly turned around and there I found someone peeping from the corner of the door. But seeing me, she walked in and literally acted like she was here to pick a weapon.

"Rizel," I mused as she shamelessly waved at me as our gazes met.

Oh great.

"I didn't see you there," she said as she walked towards me.

"Yeah, I'm pretty sure you didn't," I replied sarcastically.

I then began walking towards a display of weapons at the corner, spotting the very weapon I was looking for. Hm. I thought it would be much harder to find, but well, it wasn't. I walked over and grabbed the weapon, but then turned to look at her as she ALSO GRABBED THE FUCKING WEAPON!

"What are you doing?" I asked, to which she just smiled.

"I'm also considering this weapon," she said.

Should I just kill her?

I mean, I can hide her body here since no one is around.

'She is stronger than you, so don't even try it, you demon,' nagged Nelia.

Tsk.

Yeah.

I caught a glimpse of her watch.

Level 6.8?

Damn.

I better just avoid her.

"So?" I asked.

"Let's share it," she said.

I… I don't even know what to say?

IS THIS GIRL AN IDIOT OR IS SHE PURPOSELY ANNOYING ME?!
