No matter which strategy his opponent chose, Chris remained unconcerned. His Zoroark would crush any opposition without mercy.
"Zoroark, Spear Pillar!" Chris extended his hand and snapped his fingers with commanding authority.
Immediately, an invisible force began spreading outward from Zoroark as its center. The appearance of the battle field gradually transformed, slowly taking the shape of an ancient altar surrounded by crumbling stone walls and weathered pillars.
This mystical altar seemed to resist the wind and snow that had been affecting the battlefield. Though Ninetales' figure remained visible through the illusion, the bitter chill from the frozen arena had not completely disappeared.
In the deepest section of the ruined altar, Chris stood upon the trainer's platform. Behind him, a magnificent statue of Arceus had materialized, towering and imposing. The divine presence made Chris appear like a destined ruler who would soon command the entire world.
Zoroark stood several feet in front of Chris, its gaze locked onto Ninetales with predatory focus. Cold, blood-red eyes flickered with an otherworldly gleam as it raised both hands upward. Two portal-like voids opened in the air, dark as black holes. From these dimensional rifts, Palkia and Dialga emerged in their Origin Forms, having crossed both time and space to answer the call.
The Illusory King Field was Zoroark's exclusive domain as the self-proclaimed "King" of illusions. This ability allowed it to create various phantasms and mirages. "Spear Pillar" was the name Chris had specifically chosen for this recreation of Arceus's sacred altar, inspired by the same legendary location from the Sinnoh Region.
When the audience witnessed two unfamiliar Pokemon making their dramatic entrance, the stadium erupted with excitement once again.
"What kind of Pokemon are those two? I've never seen them before, but they look incredible!"
"Hey referee! This trainer just released two more Pokemon! Isn't that against the rules?"
As a champion from two thousand years past, Chris's Zoroark had mastered the art of illusions far beyond normal limits. These phantasms didn't merely deceive the eyes—they affected all five senses, including hearing, smell, touch, and even psychological perception.
Though these apparitions were created entirely from Ghost-type energy and illusion techniques, they felt completely real to everyone present.
The referee looked thoroughly confused, genuinely questioning whether these two Pokemon actually existed. After all, this was the first time such a phenomenon had occurred during an official battle.
In previous matches, the most unusual incident had been when a Shellder was knocked off a Slowbro's tail during combat.
But now, Elite Chris was using a single Pokemon while somehow summoning additional Pokemon that weren't part of his registered team. According to official battle regulations, if a trainer released two Pokemon simultaneously during a Single Battle, they would face immediate disqualification. Chris had effectively deployed three Pokemon, which should result in...
Should the match be suspended?
However, instructions from the head referee's office quickly reached the field referee, stopping any officials who were preparing to halt the battle.
The directive from headquarters was brief and clear: "The match will proceed normally. Continue."
Both trainers on the battlefield remained completely focused on their battle, unaware of the referee's moment of uncertainty.
Marvin studied the two summoned Pokemon before Chris with genuine curiosity and growing suspicion.
He wondered if Chris had somehow managed to deploy multiple Pokemon simultaneously during their match.
The aura and overwhelming presence radiating from these two creatures felt remarkably authentic. Based on the intense pressure they emitted, these Pokemon were undoubtedly legendary-class, and among legendary Pokemon, they belonged to the most powerful tier.
Following this line of reasoning, Marvin quickly concluded that these two Pokemon must be illusions.
After all, if Chris truly possessed two such powerful legendary Pokemon, he could have simply released them from the beginning to overwhelm any opponent. There would be no need for such elaborate tactics.
Moreover, if he remembered correctly, Chris had called his Pokemon Zoroark, and wasn't Zoroark's signature ability precisely creating illusions?
His logical deduction made perfect sense!
To determine that such realistic apparitions were merely phantasms in just ten seconds—he was truly a genius!
Throughout the entire National Competition Center, probably only Chris's senior fellow student, Vladimir's first disciple, could properly identify Palkia and Dialga in their Origin Forms.
He stared intently at the two phantoms on the battlefield, murmuring continuously under his breath: "They only exist in ancient murals—the divine Pokemon worshipped by super-ancient civilizations!"
"Ninetales, Ice Blunderbuss!" On the battlefield, Marvin called out his attack command, taking the initiative. Regardless of what type of Pokemon he faced, once they were on the battlefield, combat was the only option.
Ninetales flicked its magnificent tail while remaining in position.
Those appendages resembled tree branches covered with winter ice and snow, but they were actually soft, warm white fur. As they moved through the air, they scattered countless crystalline snowflakes and ice particles, creating a display of breathtaking beauty.
However, beneath this gorgeous spectacle lurked deadly intent.
The countless snowflakes and ice crystals instantly expanded in mid-air, transforming from gentle snow into sharp, thick ice spikes. They sliced through the atmosphere, creating friction that produced rapid "bang bang bang" sounds resembling gunfire.
This was presumably why Marvin had named this technique "Ice Blunderbuss."
"An improved version of Icicle Spear? Or perhaps a combination of multiple moves with Icicle Spear as the base?" Chris silently analyzed but didn't dwell on the details.
He had no Ice-type Pokemon on his team and had no plans to train any Ice-types in the future. After all, there were very few Ice-type Pokemon worth serious cultivation.
Actually, that wasn't entirely accurate. While ordinary Ice-type Pokemon might not warrant investment, legendary Pokemon were different. If he ever had the opportunity to capture a Kyurem in the future, he would definitely consider training it.
"Zoroark, Agility!" Chris commanded with sharp precision.
Zoroark's form burst into motion immediately, its ghostly speed creating multiple afterimages as it moved.
The phantoms of Palkia and Dialga followed suit. In this moment, they displayed the same swift agility that Chris's Zoroark had lacked when he first captured it two months ago.
Through dodging and weaving, all three figures easily evaded Ninetales' ice spear barrage.
"Night Slash!"
"Ice Hammer!"
Chris and Marvin issued their attack commands simultaneously.
Ninetales pushed off with its front legs, leaping gracefully into the air. It spun around mid-flight and swung its tail once more. In the blink of an eye, the soft, fluffy tail became encased in ice, instantly transforming into a massive Ice Hammer.
The attack descended from above with crushing force, accompanied by freezing ice crystals, aimed directly at shattering Zoroark's skull.
Zoroark grinned menacingly, its form becoming increasingly ethereal and difficult to track. Its razor-sharp claws gleamed as Dark-type energy gathered around them like black quicksand that no wind could scatter.
Rather than attacking immediately, Zoroark kept its eyes locked onto Ninetales, preparing to dodge at the crucial moment.
Meanwhile, Palkia and Dialga prepared their own devastating attacks.
Dialga was charging up for Dragon Rush.
Palkia was preparing to unleash Spacial Rend.
Although Zoroark had never witnessed Palkia use Spacial Rend before, Chris's Gardevoir was familiar with the technique and had shared that knowledge through their psychic bond.
