The sky above became dark and boundless, the ground turned into muddy quagmire, and shadowy trees and buildings loomed in the distance. Magnificent purple became the dominant color of this nightmarish world.
Thousands of hands emerged from the purple mud, each one powerful and grasping, as they seized the gigantic Mega Sableye's body and dragged it toward the depths of the mire.
"Sableye, use Power Gem to break free!"
"Use Shadow Ball!"
"Night Shade!"
Phoebe shouted commands desperately, but no matter what orders she gave, nothing could help.
Never-Ending Nightmare!
The Z-Move executed by Gengar after Mega Evolution.
Based on the high-powered Ghost-type move Shadow Ball, enhanced by Mega Gengar's terrifying Special Attack.
Sableye, being a Ghost-type Pokemon itself, was completely powerless to resist.
This had nothing to do with offensive or defensive stats, but rather Sableye's inability to break free from Never-Ending Nightmare's binding effect. The ruby shield in its hands was merely decoration—how could it use the ruby to resist attacks when its entire body was restrained?
Mega Sableye could only be grabbed and dragged straight into the nightmare mire.
"BOOM!"
An explosion echoed throughout the battlefield.
Never-Ending Nightmare concluded.
The dark, boundless sky returned to normal, the purple quagmire beneath their feet vanished, and simultaneously, the Dynamax Mega Sableye disappeared as well.
Sableye lay in the center of the shattered battlefield. The Dynamax transformation had ended, and its body had returned to normal size. The large ruby was quietly embedded in the ground, still positioned like a shield to protect its trainer.
With a crisp "crack," the ruby shattered like glass, falling to the ground and breaking into countless fragments that poured back into Sableye's chest where they reformed, signaling the end of its Mega Evolution state.
"Sableye is unable to battle! Gengar wins!" the referee announced.
Even with Mega Evolution plus Dynamax, the result was the same—Sableye couldn't escape the fate of being defeated by Gengar.
Phoebe stood there, speechless for a long moment.
What could she say?
What else was there to say?
From the battle's start, her commands had been blocked, and her Pokemon had been defeated in seconds.
What else could she possibly say?
All Phoebe felt was complete powerlessness.
Where had this young man come from?
Sidney's expression in the spectator area was even more dramatic than Phoebe's—his jaw dropped so wide his saliva nearly fell out.
He had expected this to be Phoebe's moment to shine, but instead it had become Chris's showcase. Moreover, comparing the two battles, Phoebe had lost even faster than he had.
After the third Pokemon was defeated, the entire battle was essentially over.
With her ace defeated and facing this "Ghost King," Phoebe's remaining three Pokemon were sent out only to stand in the mist like walking experience points, being systematically eliminated by Mega Gengar's Shadow Balls.
"Dusknoir is unable to battle! Gengar wins! Trainer Phoebe has no Pokemon remaining, so the final victor is Chris!" the referee quickly announced the decisive result. He noted that this was the shortest Elite Four battle he had ever witnessed.
Phoebe stepped aside, revealing the door behind her, without saying a word.
Chris walked past her and proceeded directly to the next room.
Sidney also approached Phoebe, his eyes filled with sympathy.
This girl had been thoroughly defeated by Chris, completely overwhelmed.
However, when both Chris and Sidney moved toward the next room, Phoebe didn't follow.
She wanted to watch Chris's next battle.
She was curious to see if the next Elite Four member or Champion would manage to retaliate, or if she would witness Chris's ascension to the top.
The third Elite Four member of the Hoenn Region was named Glacia.
A woman with a gentle face wearing an elegant long dress, but anyone who approached her would feel the temperature around her drop suddenly.
Because she specialized in Ice-types!
"You already possess combat abilities beyond Elite Four level. If possible, I really wouldn't want to waste time fighting—I could surrender early and I could still have my afternoon tea," Glacia said to Chris. "Unfortunately, if I actually did that, Mr. Wallace would inevitably complain."
"However, I can make this duel simpler. If you defeat my ace Pokemon, I'll concede defeat and let you pass."
From watching the battles against Sidney and Phoebe, even though Chris had only used two Pokemon, Glacia could already see that his strength far exceeded Elite Four level.
She didn't want to engage in such a one-sided battle, as it wouldn't provide her Pokemon with meaningful training—only injuries.
"Is that allowed?" Chris asked the referee. He actually wanted more battles since they provided valuable experience.
The strength ceiling for Gym Leaders was around Level 70, which barely qualified as experience for Chris, whose Pokemon had reached an average level of 85.
"It is a trainer's right to concede defeat," the referee replied, explaining that if Glacia wanted to surrender, they had no authority to refuse.
"Alright then," Chris agreed.
"This is the Hoenn Region Pokemon Victory Road Challenge, between Elite Four member Glacia and Trainer Chris! The battle rules are full team combat—when all Pokemon on one side lose their ability to fight, the battle ends!" the referee announced the standard rules.
"Both trainers, please release your Pokemon!"
Chris and Glacia pulled out their Poke Balls and released them simultaneously.
Since Glacia had stated she would surrender if her ace was defeated, it was only natural for her to use her strongest Pokemon.
Glalie!
The Pokemon Chris sent out was Tyranitar.
"Tyranitar!!!" Tyranitar took the stage with a thunderous roar.
Sandstorm weather immediately began!
Yellow sand raged across the sky as visibility throughout the battlefield rapidly decreased.
Compared to Tyranitar, the optimal choice would have been Blaziken. Its Fire-typing could effectively counter Ice-types, but since Blaziken's capabilities had likely been analyzed by Glacia during the battle with Sidney, Chris chose another Pokemon that could also counter Glacia's team.
"Battle begin!" the referee announced.
Glacia revealed both her Mega Bracelet and Dynamax Band.
"Mega Evolution!"
"Dynamax!"
The same process as Phoebe.
Glalie first underwent Mega Evolution, then was recalled to its Poke Ball for Dynamax.
Appearing on stage again was a terrifying floating head with its mouth gaping wide, emanating cold air that made the battlefield resemble a winter wonderland with white mist swirling everywhere.
However... the mist covering the battlefield made Phoebe feel anxious.
Just moments ago, Gengar had used similar mist to devastating effect against her Dynamax Sableye.
