Kit closed his eyes when the low, persistent buzzing began to build inside of his head, the dark void pressing down behind his eyelids.
There was no urge to cry, to shout or to scream - instead there was a dark, cold, empty nothing.
Until, through the oppressive weight of the darkness, as the cold crept inside of his veins, the flicker of a small flame slowly began to pierce through just as a warm, soft hand pressed against the side of his cheek.
Kit gripped it tightly and reached for the warm body without a thought, as though he already knew how it would feel.
