Two days before the Helsing recruitment drive
Casimir Starr's eyes snapped open to the shrill alarm of his commlink. He pressed his palms against them until he saw stars bursting behind his lids.
He groped for the communicator on the nightstand and shut it off, groaning at the time displayed on the screen.
5:30am
Cas wanted to be awake early today. He knew he would need to speak with Kit before he left. He had somewhere to be.
He glanced over at Kit, lying with his back to him, still and unmoving except for his quiet breathing.
He knew he was awake. The alarm would have woken him too.
Cas felt trepidation gnawing at his insides. He wasn't sure why, but Kit had been behaving oddly for the past couple of days.
Kit was never overly animated and yet, Cas had found that he had retreated into himself even more so than normal.
And each time that Cas asked him why or attempted to push him in anyway, Kit had distracted him.
