The narrowness of the ventilation duct far exceeded Lin Yi's expectations; even moving was extremely difficult.
This reminded him of the relentless assassin in the movie "Crazy Stone."
The assassin was crawling through the ventilation duct, but due to his large rear, he got stuck in a corner and had to stay there for two or three days.
Then, Akemi had to come by every now and then to feed him… which increased her sympathy toward him…
Although it sounds a bit comical, that possibility is not so small!
This made Lin Yi think to himself: could it be that the so-called sympathy event is something like this? If so, he would rather not have it.
However, Lin Yi's concern was unnecessary.
As he moved slowly forward, the ventilation duct soon became wider, like in the cs_assault map from the CS game.
The duct was no longer so narrow that he had to move slowly; now he could use his hands and feet to climb, and the height also increased considerably. He could at least walk crouched without problems.
The oppression and anxiety caused by the narrow space immediately disappeared.
He didn't know how long he had been climbing, but the general trend was downward.
Soon, he reached a corner, and Akemi finally gave good news, saying: "There's a faint light ahead… let's see where this exit leads."
After climbing for about twenty minutes, he quickly reached that exit. Akemi whispered, "We're lucky, we've directly arrived at the parking lot… and it's not very high, about three meters. Only, there are police nearby… let's wait patiently."
Lin Yi nodded and said, "Right here, there's a small vent from where I can see the situation below."
Through the small vent, he saw the police in action.
A middle-aged detective was quickly giving orders to the agents: "Check the entire parking lot, don't leave any place unchecked where someone might be hiding."
"Group one to three, go over there, group four to six, search the exit. Action!"
"Ha!"
The police quickly dispersed, going to different places according to their assignments.
The middle-aged detective took a few steps, then suddenly stopped, looked around, feeling a gaze.
Instinctively, he looked up and stared at the vent for a while, then raised his flashlight and pointed it upward, but saw no one.
"Ah… there can't be anyone in that place, and besides, with such a big backpack. I'm exhausted..." The detective tapped his forehead: "And more than three meters high, it's impossible to climb there."
Just then, the walkie-talkie emitted a new message: "Report to the captain, we found a little child in a trash bin."
"What? They found a little child in a trash bin? You've got to be kidding me?" The detective was surprised, doubting the information.
"It's no joke, it must be related to the three children found on the third floor. Captain, please come immediately."
"Understood, this child might know something, I'm on my way." The detective quickly responded and headed for the nearest elevator, disappearing from sight.
Inside the ventilation duct.
After seeing the police leave, Lin Yi sighed in relief and said, "Thank goodness I was quick, otherwise, they would have found me... Who designed this ventilation duct? So close to the exit, and yet it still has a small vent."
"Are you done?" Akemi whispered. "If you're done... get off me... you're almost crushing me."
Yes, that's right.
When Lin Yi noticed the detective stop, he realized something was wrong, and immediately kept climbing, ending up on top of Akemi, stacked like a doll.
"It's not right to get down now... don't you see that there are still police coming and going?"
The moment Lin Yi ended up on top, he realized that this place had to be a trap for the sympathy event.
"Special scenario? It fits."
"Special action... the stacking position also fits."
"... Doesn't this position feel uncomfortable? Please control yourself."
Akemi said, a bit uncomfortable, clearly feeling an imminent threat near her skirt.
"This isn't something that can be easily controlled… but I'll do my best."
——————————
In the hallway corner in front of the ventilation duct, a group of police officers passed by.
"It's strange... didn't you hear a strange sound?"
One officer stopped and said to his partner.
"Sound? What sound?"
His partner asked, somewhat confused.
"Why do I feel... like I heard a woman's scream?"
The officer looked around in confusion and whispered, "Listen carefully..."
Both fell silent, listening attentively.
Suddenly, a faint "ah um" sound could be heard in the distance.
The officer quickly tugged on his partner's sleeve and exclaimed, "Did you hear it? It sounds like an 'ah… um'!"
"Did… did I hear it?" His partner looked uncomfortably, directing his gaze toward the dark corners where the light didn't reach, his mind filled with images of a ghostly woman in white appearing at any moment. He nervously swallowed.
"Are you hearing things?"
"Hearing things? That sound was very clear!"
Right after saying this, another "uh uh uh" sound, louder, could be heard. The officer pulled on his partner's sleeve again and exclaimed, "Now you heard it clearly, right? That sound was even louder!"
"No… don't pull me anymore. Yes, I've heard it..."
His partner was soaked in sweat, his mind filled with images of ghosts like Sadako and Kayako. He was scared: "Forget it… let's get out of here."
"Get out… just like that? Aren't we going to... investigate?"
The officer clearly had a strong sense of duty and didn't want to abandon his responsibility.
"Don't you think it's strange? That scream… sounds really weird."
His partner swallowed and said, "The tone is strange, it doesn't sound like normal speech... and it seems to come from beneath the ground… it's a muffled sound."
"Are you exaggerating? Maybe... that's just how their voice sounds."
The officer also felt chills but still didn't want to abandon his belief in logic.
"Don't you know about the violent explosion incident seven years ago… that happened nearby?"
"The incident where the bomb disposal team members died? Were there women among them?"
"I don't know… maybe there were. Even in the police, there are women, so it wouldn't be strange if there were one or two in the bomb disposal team, right? Anyway... we better leave."
"Could it be...?"
The officer was about to say something more when suddenly a much clearer and louder "uh uh uh" sound emerged from nowhere, startling them so much that they both jumped.
They no longer dared to say anything and turned around, running hastily.
