(recap)
The room felt still, the weight of his words hanging heavy in the air. I could feel the depth of their love, and the price they had paid to bring me into the world. He let that sink in for a minute, then he continued.
"And the rest... well, the rest is what the ANBU recounted to us before handing you to us..... The anbu who returned alone with a new born baby... ."

[flash back]
(???? Anbu pov)
The village was bathed in fire and smoke, the scent of death lingering thick in the air. I approached the battlefield quietly, my orders clear: intercept the Nara woman and her companions. They were in the middle of an impossible situation, and Tsunade was needed elsewhere. I was chosen to assist-no, to clean up. They wouldn't survive without me.
There were corpses of villagers all around me. I could see the enemy had spared no one. Which only increased my speed to find my mission. My original weapon was a little unique and unusual which made me stand out in an anbu, which is the last thing you want to do in an anbu corps. So some chains I had unsealed from my storage scroll earlier just before I entered the village had to do for now. They were not bad as far as substitutions went with a similar structure.
As I arrived at the center of the village , I heard some noises. There.... I saw all the mission objectives in a field near about 100 meters far away. The situation couldn't be worse.
Reiko Nara - the foolish pregnant woman who decided her child was more important than the war, her water already broken and struggling to even stand, surrounded by Daichi Yamanaka and Shigeru Nara Blood covered all three of them, and the bodies of their enemies they had managed to kill scattered at their feet.
The remaining enemy forces -a mix of three jõnin, five chūnin, and four genin-encircled them, like vultures waiting for the right moment to strike.
My eyes locked onto Reiko first, Despite her pregnancy, despite the obvious pain, she still stood, weapon in hand. Her eyes burned with the same fierce determination that I had rarely seen on countless battlefields.
her body trembled no doubt- with the force of contractions, but she did not falter. The sheer willpower keeping her on her feet was almost.....admirable despite her stupid decision to come here.
But she wouldn't last. None of them would, that much was obvious already. Daichi's breathing was ragged , his body full of holes and swaying as he struggled to stay upright. Shigeru jr, fared no better with a deep slash near his heart.
The two men, despite their injuries, had already killed one jõnin and half of the chunin and genin of this enemy unit, that had attacked this village according to the report . But the enemies had regrouped, and they were outnumbered.
it was pure bad luck on their part that the rout they took even when they shouldn't have in the first place, to get to Tsunade for the unborn child was the rout where the village laid, the village which our people had decided to abandon for it was not worth it to save it depending on the enemy size and our forces being needed on the west front which was struggling to say the least.
The jõnin advanced first, moving swiftly toward Reiko. I knew then that if I did nothing, the child would die along with her. I couldn't let that happen.... not now.
I launched myself into the fray, the chain in my hand spinning in a deadly blur. The first jōnin came at Reiko, but before he could close the gap, I struck. The chain lashed out like a serpent, wrapping around his neck and snapping it with a single, precise movement. His lifeless body crumpled to the ground.
I saw two chūnin charge at me from the side. Without missing a beat, I wove through hand seals, calling forth a burst of wind. The cutting gusts slashed through them, throwing their bodies back, blood spraying through the air. My chain swung low, sweeping the legs of the nearest genin before I finished him with a lightning-infused strike, the crackling energy surging through the metal and sending his body into violent spasms before he fell limp.
A jōnin hurled fireballs in my direction, but I was faster. With a flick of my wrist, the chain deflected them. I countered with a quick water jutsu, dousing the flames and propelling myself forward on a torrent of water. My chain lashed out again, cutting through the air with deadly precision, finding its mark around his torso. With a violent pull, I yanked him off his feet and into the ground with a sickening thud.
Shigeru and Daichi struggled behind me, trying to fend off two more chūnin. I moved swiftly, raising my hands as the earth beneath them shifted. A fissure opened, swallowing one of the chūnin whole as the ground collapsed beneath him. The other tried to escape, but my chain whipped across the battlefield, tearing through his chest before he even had a chance to react.
Only two enemies remained—another jōnin and a lone genin, shaking with fear. I made quick work of the genin with a kunai which was so fast he couldn't deflect in time, silencing him in an instant.
The jōnin, realizing his fate, tried to retreat, but it was too late. I completed the A-rank fire jutsu, sending a torrent of flames toward him. The heat engulfed him, his scream echoing across the field before the flames devoured him.
In mere moments, it was over. The battlefield fell silent, the enemies' bodies strewn around me. Everything was silent save for the ragged breathing of the three survivors behind me.
Daichi collapsed first, his body giving in to the sheer toll of his injuries. He fell to his knees before crumpling to the dirt.
Shigeru followed, his eyes glassy, blood pouring from a deep wound in his abdomen.
Reiko dropped her weapon the pain too much for her to bear any longer. She staggered, clutching her belly, and fell next to them.
The fight was over, but something worse had only just begun
I moved toward Reiko, kneeling beside her as the first scream tore from her lips. The baby was coming, but it wasn't time yet.. it was far too early. Her body wasn't ready, and she was too weak Blood soaked the ground beneath her, mingling with bodies of the men who had tried to take their life
"Hold on," I muttered, more to myself than to her. I knew what needed to be done. I wasn't great at medical treatment as Tsunade, but I wasn't that far off. I knew enough to save this child at least
I worked quickly, my hands steady as I helped her through the birth. Shigeru and Daichi lay beside her, their breath shallow, eyes fixed on the scene before them.
The battle was over, but their fight wasn't. They watched with a fierce determination, knowing that their final moments would be spent watching the life they had fought to protect
Reiko screamed again, her body convulsing as she pushed. I could feel her fading, her chakra slipping away but she wouldn't stop. She wouldn't give up until she saw her child born. Sweat and blood mixed on her skin, but she kept going
After what felt like an eternity, the baby finally emerged, silent and still. The complications I had solved taking every bit of knowledge and chakra control from me. I held the tiny body in my hands, bloodied and weak. For a moment, my heart stopped The baby was lifeless
Shigeru coughed, his voice barely a whisper. "Is... is the child...?"
Reiko's eyes fluttered, her lips trembling. "Please... let me see him." And I did, cause being a kunoichi of Konoha she deserved at least this much before her end.
"He.. snot. cryi.." she swallowed rest of the word to gasp for what was sure to be one of her last breaths, her heart breaking.
I moved quickly, my medical training kicking in as I cleared the baby's airway and then force started its heart using medical and electrical chakra. For a split second, the world stood still. And then, a cry-sharp, loud, and full of life--broke the silence. The baby was alive.
Tears filled Reiko's eyes as she turned her head weakly toward her child. "My.. my baby..." Her voice was soft, barely a whisper. Daichi's lips curved into a faint smile, his eyes glassy with pride
"We... did it," Shigeru rasped, his voice filled with the weight of a thousand battles fought and won
Reiko's eyes fluttered closed, her body finally giving in. "Take care... of him," she whispered, her last breath slipping away.
Shigeru and Daichi followed moments later, their bodies limp, but their faces at peace. They had fought for their child, and in the end, they had won.
I stood there, the weight of the moment settling over me like a shroud. The baby wailed in my arms, the only sound in the stillness of death that surrounded us.
----------
I arrived at the village gates just as the first hints of dawn crept over the horizon, the baby still wrapped tightly in my arms. His cries had quieted some, but his tiny body remained fragile, his breaths shallow. Despite that, there was a certain stubbornness about him—a will to survive. Maybe it was the nara, yamanaka and akimichi blood in him, or perhaps the fight his mother had put up in her final moments had passed on to him.
I had fast glanced through the reports before leaving the outpost to get to these people, I knew this was something unprecedented. If they had lived I was to take them to Tsunade, if not retrieve their bodies,
Under Tsunade's orders if the child lived and Tsunade was no longer needed , I was to bring him back to the village and hand him over to the remaining family cause a labour was least of her worries while she was fighting a war.
It wasn't like I hadn't done this before. Complete the mission, report the success of the mission, and leave. No attachment, no sentiment. Yet, as I walked through the village streets, the child pressed close to me, I couldn't help but wonder what kind of life lay ahead for him.
I thought back to the battlefield—his mother, Reiko, fighting tooth and nail until the end. His father, Daichi, standing tall beside her despite the odds. And Shigeru, the Jr Nara, who had seen countless battles but was brought down in the end by a mission to protect his unborn grandson. It was almost tragic how much blood had been spilled for this child to take his first breath. They'd fought like hell to give him a future, but what future did he truly have? Where even an elite jonin like me had to step out the the way for fight when Tsunade or other S-ranks interfered. Just last month I almost died from a stray attack in the fight between that damm jinchuriki and Tsunade had.
Sure, he had the bloodlines. Nara, Yamanaka, Akimichi—the clans known for their forbidden techniques and long-standing history. But bloodlines like that didn't mean much anymore, not without a Kekkei Genkai. The wars had proven that again and again. Strategy, mind games, and raw strength could only take a ninja so far. It was the ones with rare abilities, like the Uchiha's Sharingan or the Hyūga's Byakugan, that consistently rose to the top.
Kekkei Genkai—those with such gifts were the ones who shaped the world. I'd seen it firsthand. Clans without those special abilities rarely produced S-rank ninja, not consistently like those clans with kekkei genkai do.
Sure, there were a few exceptions, But they could be counted on one hand. Becoming a S-rank ninja took something far greater than mere simple hidden techniques.
I glanced down at the baby. His breathing had evened out, and his small fingers were curled tightly against the cloth. Despite everything, he had survived. But would he thrive? Without a Kekkei Genkai, would he ever amount to more than just another average ninja? No matter how skilled the Nara were with their shadows, the Yamanaka with their minds, or the Akimichi with their size, they weren't the ones rewriting history. Not anymore.
It was a hard truth, one I had learned the brutal way during the wars. Without something that set you apart—something like a Kekkei Genkai—you could be the strongest or smartest in your village, but you would never reach the highest ranks. Not in this world.
_______
After a lot of traveling I finally reached the Nara compound, where the remaining family awaited for the news for they were the ones who informed the outpost and in turn Tsunade. and in turn the missions creation. The gate creaked open, and I stepped forward, the weight of the child heavy in my arms. I'd be leaving soon, once this task was done and I write a report for both the Hokage and the clans undoubtedly because they will definitely have questions. But I had no business lingering here more than that, no matter how curious I was about what would become of this baby. The child whose family died protecting him before he even took his first breath.
I handed him over, and as I did, I couldn't help but glance at him one last time. He was so small, so helpless. Despite all I knew, despite everything I'd witnessed in my years, a part of me couldn't help but wonder—could he be different? Could he prove me wrong?
Too bad I'd probably never be around to find out if the child amounted to anything.
Despite the approval to use the enemy shinobies dead body. I can foresee Konoha would become too restrictive for his research in the future.
