"Th-this… isn't right. No, I really can't accept this."
The moment Sato heard Captain Reggie's offer, his heart skipped a beat, and he quickly refused.
Honestly, just receiving the Sea God Coral Stone was already more than enough. If he were to take one of Reggie's high-quality Water-type Pokémon on top of that, he would feel far too guilty.
"Stop fussing. I told you to pick one, so pick one already."
"Don't be shy. You saved my ship — of course I have to repay you. Otherwise, if word gets out that you only walked away with a rock, where would that leave my reputation?"
Seeing Sato still hesitate, Reggie's expression hardened. He barked at him, spit flying with each word.
"Old man, this isn't what I wanted — you're forcing it on me."
Sato muttered inwardly, wiping his face. Still, as Reggie insisted, he shifted his gaze toward the three Water-types Reggie had presented, carefully examining them.
The three Pokémon were a Squirtle, a Totodile, and a Corphish. At first glance, all three were in excellent health, their eyes sharp and brimming with fighting spirit.
With the system's scan, Sato quickly obtained detailed data. His eyes lit up as the results appeared — just as Reggie had said, these Pokémon were of outstanding quality, each carrying inherited moves.

From the data, Totodile was the clear standout — her golden potential and inherited Dragon Dance and Hydro Cannon hinted at Dragon ancestry. Her physical prowess was undeniable, making her an exceptional Water-type starter. Any rookie Trainer would save years of effort with such a partner.
Corphish was also excellent. Though not quite at Totodile's level, his purple-tier potential combined with Dragon Dance inheritance marked him as another Dragon-descendant. Most impressive of all, his ability was Adaptability, making him the strongest attacker of the trio.
But what truly captivated Sato was the Squirtle. While not gold-tier, it had inherited a move that stunned him — Aura Sphere.
Yes, Aura. Though everything in the Pokémon world possessed aura, only a very few could wield it. This Squirtle, who had inherited Aura Sphere, clearly had a natural grasp of aura power — a gift from birth.
A Squirtle who could channel aura had limitless potential. With proper training, it could grow into something extraordinary.
And Sato remembered well: once Blastoise Mega Evolved, its ability became Mega Launcher, boosting the power of pulse moves. This Squirtle already knew Aura Sphere, Dragon Pulse, and Water Pulse. If it later learned Dark Pulse and Sato obtained a Blastoisinite, it would become a devastating artillery platform.
"I choose Squirtle."
Sato didn't hesitate — he immediately asked for the aura-wielding Squirtle.
'Tch! This kid's got an eye, huh? Of all of them, he picks my most valuable Squirtle. Ahhh, it breaks my heart!'
Reggie's face twitched in pain. He knew Squirtle's worth all too well — the offspring of his own Blastoise and Crawdaunt, born with the aura power that most Pokémon could never touch.
Originally, Reggie had planned to gift this Squirtle to his beloved granddaughter as her first partner on her tenth birthday. But since Sato had chosen, he had no choice but to part with it.
"Are you sure? I'd recommend Totodile. Look at her build, her solid muscles — she's rare indeed. Oh, and she knows Dragon Dance."
Reggie gave it one last try, smiling as he extolled Totodile's virtues.
The Totodile, hearing such praise, tilted her head proudly and chirped at Sato.
But Reggie didn't know about Sato's system. He understood Reggie's intentions perfectly.
"No, no. I'll stick with Squirtle. There's something truly special about him… I can't help but choose him. Please, Captain, let me have him."
Sato shook his head firmly, standing by his decision.
"Very well. Since you've chosen Squirtle, take him. He's a rare Pokémon indeed — treat him well."
Seeing Sato's determination, Reggie reluctantly handed over Squirtle's PokeBall, his face serious.
Though it pained him deeply, he was a man of his word. As a former Elite-Fourlevel Trainer, he would never stoop to breaking a promise.
"Don't worry, Captain. I'll take good care of Squirtle, and I'll make sure he grows into something truly amazing."
Sato accepted the PokeBall with both hands, making a solemn vow.
At that very moment, the Squirtle sitting obediently nearby looked up, his eyes flashing a deep blue light.
"Hello, human with special powers. So, you'll be my Trainer from now on. My name… is Jerry."
A young voice echoed softly in Sato's mind.
