The attack came without warning—and because the target wasn't Sato, he didn't feel the need to be on guard. By the time he realized what was happening, it was already too late for him to step in.
However, Lusamine wasn't someone to be underestimated. For a woman to hold real authority as the chairwoman of the Aether Foundation, it was clear she wasn't ordinary—and she seemed well-accustomed to assassination attempts of this level.
Facing the sudden assault, Lusamine remained calm. Her eyes instantly sharpened, and an imposing aura befitting a powerful Trainer radiated from her.
With a burst of strength from her legs, she quickly stepped in front of her daughter with a Luxury Ball in hand. In that instant, a Mismagius emerged from thin air, appearing directly in front of Lusamine.
Clearly, this Mismagius was one of Lusamine's personal bodyguards.
Mismagius's eyes lit up with a brilliant blue light, and a jade-green energy shield instantly expanded to protect both her and Lusamine and her daughter.
A second later, the clanging sound of impact rang out—Mismagius had used Protect to completely block the unknown assailant's attack.
But the hidden enemy wasn't about to back down just yet. When the ambush failed, they immediately unleashed an even stronger move in an attempt to finish off Lusamine and her daughter.
In the night sky, countless glowing green energy leaves suddenly materialized—similar to the previous attack, but now falling like a torrential storm. It was obvious the attacker's goal was to obliterate the berry shop and bury Lusamine and her daughter beneath it.
"You're asking for it. Come out, Crobat! Use Air Cutter, merge all twelve blades!"
Seeing that the enemy had no qualms about targeting even him, Sato's expression turned ice-cold. Furious, he swiftly retrieved the PokeBall containing Crobat and released it.
A flash of white light shot out from the PokeBall, and Crobat appeared instantly in front of Sato. The moment it materialized, its four wide wings shimmered with a layer of blue-green Flying-type energy, and it gave a mighty flap forward.
In an instant, a gale with the power of a Category 12 wind burst forth. Under the force of the wind, the incoming energy leaves in the sky faltered mid-flight.
At the same time, a barrage of white energy blades appeared within the whirlwind Crobat had generated. These blades shot toward the leaves that had been suspended in the air.
A moment later, Flying-type energy collided with Grass-type energy in midair, erupting into a series of energy explosions.
However, the explosive noises ceased barely two seconds after they began.
Under Crobat's control, twelve smaller white energy blades rapidly converged and merged into a single, massive 8-meter-long Air Blade.
The enormous blade, carrying a force that seemed like it could cleave a river in two, shot toward the night sky. Every green energy leaf in its path shattered instantly, erupting into chain explosions midair.
Then, Crobat's eyes blazed with blue light—and in that moment, the giant Air Blade glowed with the same hue, abruptly shifting its trajectory and soaring upward at high speed.
A heart-wrenching scream rang out, and a brown figure dropped from the night sky. Its chest, covered in pristine white feathers, now bore a deep gash drenched in blood.
"A Decidueye, huh… No wonder it was so hard to detect with the naked eye."
Sato narrowed his eyes as he took a closer look at the Pokémon falling from above, thinking to himself.
Decidueye—the final evolution of Rowlet, the Grass-type starter from the Alola region. A dual Grass/Ghost-type Pokémon known for its calm demeanor and masterful stealth in the jungle. It could shoot feather arrows with pinpoint precision to pierce rocks from over a kilometer away.
Clearly, Decidueye's exceptional stealth came from its Ghost typing. Just like Lusamine's Mismagius, it had used its Ghost abilities to conceal itself in the sky.
But Crobat had detected it using its echolocation—its ultrasonic perception left nowhere for the attacker to hide.
With help from his system's scan, Sato quickly got the details on the attacker's Decidueye, discovering it was level 52. That meant the assassin lurking in the shadows was at least at the near-Elite level.

Even though the type disadvantage led to the level 52 Decidueye being seriously wounded by a single combined Air Cutter from the level 43 Crobat, its strength was not to be underestimated. After enduring the initial hit, it quickly recovered.
The next second, as it was still falling, Decidueye spread its wings. Its descent abruptly turned into an ascent, and its body gradually faded into the night—clearly using its Ghost-type invisibility again to vanish.
"Don't bother chasing it, Crobat."
Seeing Decidueye disappear into the darkness, Sato stopped Crobat, who was preparing to pursue. His expression was now grim.
Hearing this, Crobat immediately ceased its chase and returned to Sato's side.
The assassin who targeted Lusamine and her daughter was clearly a near pseudo Elite-Four level Trainer. Although their attack had involved Sato, Crobat had already severely wounded Decidueye, which, in his view, settled the score.
Sato had been forced to intervene due to the collateral damage. Having done so and inflicted serious damage on Decidueye, his part was done. Continuing the pursuit would be a whole different matter.
He had no intention of provoking a powerful assassin with an unknown background.
At that moment, just as Decidueye retreated, a tanned woman and an Incineroar appeared on the roof across from the berry shop. Both bore visible injuries.
(Note: Incineroar is the final evolution of Litten, the Fire-type starter from Alola. It is a Fire/Dark-type known for its aggressive temperament. In battle, it becomes fiercely competitive, often disregarding its Trainer's commands when fully fired up.)
Facing them was a masked figure in black, accompanied by a fully grown Toucannon.
(Note: Toucannon, the final evolution of Pikipek, is a Normal/Flying-type Pokémon from Alola. Its beak can heat up to over 100°C—anyone pecked by it will suffer severe burns.)
