"Jonin Aomine!"
"Captain!"
As soon as Aomine appeared, all the surviving Konoha ninjas stood up and greeted him warmly.
Aomine looked at them, nodded slightly, and instructed them to rest and prepare for the Mist ninjas' impending attack. Then, he found a spot to tend to his injuries.
First, Aomine examined the wounds on his left shoulder, right waist, and thigh. These three injuries were caused by a senbon and two kunai. Although the injuries were minor, the poison embedded within them was not to be underestimated.
Thanks to his constitution stat, which had reached 19 points, his enhanced regeneration and healing capabilities, along with his chakra, were keeping the poison at bay. Otherwise, the situation could have been much worse.
Aomine formed a series of hand seals and used the Delicate Illness Extraction Technique to carefully sense the poison's distribution in his wounds. After several moments of observation, he began extracting the toxins.
Soon, a mass of pitch-black blood was drawn from the wound on his shoulder and discarded onto the ground, emitting a foul stench.
Aomine frowned slightly, flipped his hand, and conjured a small flame of fire-release chakra, which he used to incinerate the toxin-laden blood.
With the unpleasant odor gone, he resumed extracting more toxins from his wounds. Within moments, several more clumps of blackened blood were removed and burned to ash.
"Hah..." Aomine exhaled deeply once the numbness in his shoulder subsided. After confirming that all traces of poison were gone, he used the Mystical Palm Technique to heal the wound completely.
He moved on without hesitation, applying the same method to the injuries on his right waist and thigh.
Unlike the shoulder wound caused by the senbon, the injuries from the kunai were slightly more severe, and the amount of poison was greater. Fortunately, since the toxins had less time to spread, they were easier to extract.
Both injuries, combined, took roughly the same time to treat as the shoulder wound.
When all three wounds were finally healed, Aomine felt significantly better.
But he wasn't done yet.
Earlier, to avoid being immobilized by sealing techniques from several Mist chunin, he had taken a direct hit from a water-arrow jutsu launched by a Mist jonin while simultaneously countering with Wind Release: Great Breakthrough.
That injury, located on his abdomen, had yet to be addressed.
Aomine lowered his gaze to his abdomen, where a bloodied hole, about three fingers wide, was steadily oozing blood.
This wound was far more severe than the previous ones, even injuring internal organs. In terms of gravity, it was in a different league entirely.
Anyone else in his position would likely be out of the fight—if not dead.
Fortunately, Aomine's Mystical Palm Technique had long since reached level 8, offering exceptional healing capabilities far superior to ordinary medical ninjutsu. Even with such a severe wound, he had confidence in his ability to recover.
With that, Aomine formed hand seals and activated the Mystical Palm Technique.
Pouring a considerable amount of yang-release chakra into his hands, he pressed them against his abdomen. The concentrated chakra greatly accelerated the healing process.
Though this method was less chakra-efficient, the speed of recovery was far greater.
To further expedite the process, Aomine injected multiple waves of yang-release chakra, complementing his high constitution stat's natural regenerative power.
Before long, the abdominal wound healed completely.
At that moment, the sound of hurried footsteps approached from the distance.
Aomine opened his eyes abruptly.
Noticing his movement, a Konoha chunin who had been guarding him spoke up immediately:
"Captain, the scouting team just reported that the Mist ninjas are about to arrive."
"Understood."
Aomine nodded calmly in response.
The news didn't come as a surprise to him.
Although he had eliminated one of the Mist's scouts during his return, Aomine knew that Ao had dispatched more than one operative.
By now, the Mist forces would have received the necessary intelligence.
The fact that they were only arriving now likely meant that his earlier interference had successfully delayed their advance. Otherwise, they would have arrived much sooner.
Standing up, Aomine gestured for the Konoha chunin to withdraw. He then formed hand seals and activated Wind Release: Wings of the Wind, soaring into the sky.
Midair
From above, Aomine observed the Mist forces.
They had already reached the Konoha defensive line. Both sides stood tensely, clutching their kunai as they stared each other down.
Aomine's sudden appearance instantly drew everyone's attention.
On the Konoha side, morale visibly improved.
Meanwhile, the Mist forces grew noticeably restless.
Among them, a few Mist jonin visibly relaxed as if they had been waiting for his appearance.
With his Sharingan's keen insight, Aomine noticed this subtle change in their demeanor.
The Mist jonin quickly issued orders, and their forces launched an attack.
A barrage of kunai and shuriken filled the air—but they weren't aimed at Aomine. Instead, they targeted the Konoha forces directly ahead.
It was clear that the Mist had merely wanted to confirm Aomine's location, ensuring he wouldn't ambush them from above.
Now that the battle had begun in earnest, their focus shifted to the Konoha forces.
From above, Aomine watched as both sides collided almost immediately.
He remained still, waiting for the right moment to strike.
At the start of a battle, enemy forces typically paid close attention to threats like him. Only after the fight escalated would they let their guard down. That was when Aomine planned to act.
For now, however, he resorted to smaller-scale disruptions to aid the Konoha forces, which were outnumbered nearly 3.5 to 1.
Spreading his chakra wings, Aomine glided toward the Mist forces' rear.
Several Mist ninjas, noticing his approach, halted and raised their guard.
But just as they prepared to counter, Aomine executed a sharp turn, climbing back into the skies.
Over the next several minutes, Aomine repeated this maneuver, feinting attacks to draw the Mist's attention and disrupt their coordination.
When he finally prepared to launch a real attack, he caught sight of a group approaching from the direction of the Konoha outpost.
It was none other than the reinforcements sent by Sano Nobuhisa.
This made Aomine pause and hold back his attack. Instead, he resumed his harassment tactics, waiting for the reinforcements to arrive.
With a simpler and safer path to victory now available, there was no need for him to take unnecessary risks.
