Chapter 770 - Rakua Elements!

Suicune?

Just from appearance, the Pokémon roaring beneath the waterfall indeed bore seven to eight-tenths similarity to the legendary "Avatar of the North Wind," Suicune.

But it wasn't Suicune—it was...

"Walking Wake," Johan said softly.

"Walking Wake?"

Cynthia, Lance, and Clair all looked at Johan with confusion.

The old master of the Dragon Tamer family, Elite Four Hassel's father, also looked toward Johan.

However, his eyes showed not confusion, but surprise.

"Teacher Johan also recognizes this Pokémon?"

This truly surprised the old master.

If nothing else, if this Walking Wake went outside, over ninety percent of people would mistake it for Suicune. The remaining ten percent, though knowing it wasn't Suicune, probably wouldn't know what Pokémon it was either.

Because theoretically, this was an ancient Pokémon—or rather, a Paradox Pokémon.

Uh... Johan, who had unconsciously said the name "Walking Wake," paused, then smiled:

"Also my first time seeing one. Previously... saw it mentioned in an ancient text."

"The Scarlet Book?"

The Scarlet Book was written by a naturalist named Heath, who was also the first to enter the deepest parts of the Great Crater of Paldea over two hundred years ago.

It recorded vast amounts of incredible information, making people question whether Heath was creating sensational stories. For a long time afterward, the Scarlet Book became an obscure bizarre novel in the Paldea region.

Few people remembered the Scarlet Book now. Johan wasn't sure if the book was currently in Naranja Academy's library or possessed by Heath's descendant, Briar.

Johan even wasn't certain whether there was only the Scarlet Book or if there was a corresponding Violet Book, representing Pokémon's "Scarlet and Violet."

Johan smiled without giving a definite answer.

He couldn't very well say he'd played the "Pokémon Scarlet/Violet" games, could he?

But in the old master's eyes, this was almost equivalent to confirmation.

Teacher Johan's knowledge is truly broad—worthy of being a teacher, the old master thought admiringly.

This way, his son choosing to remain a teacher after communicating with Teacher Johan might not be a bad choice.

"That's right, this indeed isn't Suicune, but Walking Wake—a Dragon-type Pokémon," the old master sighed.

Dragon-type Pokémon?

Walking Wake?

Lance and Clair looked at each other.

Walking Wake, a Water and Dragon-type Paradox Pokémon, most likely from the Great Crater of Paldea. But seeing Walking Wake appear here...

Perhaps long ago, the Dragon Tamer family had already encountered Walking Wake.

After all, over a hundred years ago, adventurer Lucius, one of the "Explorers" founders, had six Pokémon including Gouging Fire—an ancient Pokémon resembling Entei.

Looking at the enraged Walking Wake, Johan frowned:

"What's wrong with it..."

"Teacher Johan has already noticed?"

The old master nodded slightly and explained: "Though Walking Wake hasn't been captured by our Dragon Tamer family, it actually established a very friendly relationship with our family. Usually when it had nothing to do, Walking Wake would live here..."

Similar to the Dragonite in Lance's Dragon Clan's "Dragon's Den," right?

The difference was that the Dragonite belonged to Pokémon left by the Dragon Clan's older generation, while Walking Wake was a Dragon-type that had established friendly relations.

The old master continued:

"But after Walking Wake went out last time and returned... it became like this. Not only did its temperament become extremely irritable, but it also became very difficult to communicate with. Though not impossible to communicate, just..."

Johan continued:

"Just instinctively following its original lifestyle, but probably no one can approach, and though it hasn't randomly destroyed things, anyone who gets close might be attacked."

"Exactly!"

The old master looked at Johan with amazement.

Just one look and he could understand Walking Wake's general situation?

Was this the person Professor Oak called the "Pokémon Heart Master"?

"Does Teacher Johan know what's wrong with Walking Wake?"

Johan's expression was strange.

Based on this description, Walking Wake completely fit one condition—being in heat.

But well...

"Cough, I need to observe more specifically."

The old master continued: "Actually, part of the reason I wanted Hassel to return was for Walking Wake."

"Want Hassel to capture Walking Wake?" Johan used a questioning tone but seemed quite certain.

Hearing this, the old master nodded. "I don't know if this could calm Walking Wake down, just... it's another option to try."

This was somewhat reasonable.

Otherwise, Hassel had been an Elite Four for so many years—why only now think of calling him back...

"If Teacher Johan can calm Walking Wake, our Dragon Tamer family will be greatly grateful!"

Calm it?

If Walking Wake was really in heat, how would you calm it?

Should they neuter it?

Of course, if it wasn't in heat, the problem might be... more serious.

At the same time.

"Ka-kaah?"

Gengar had already quietly crept near Walking Wake.

Because sharp-eyed Gengar had discovered that in the pool where Walking Wake lived beneath the waterfall, there seemed to be several shed scales!

If it was a Dragon-type Pokémon, wouldn't these be Dragon Scales?

Good stuff...

"Roar—!!"

But just as Gengar bent down to pick them up, it found Walking Wake's bloodshot eyes had suddenly locked onto it.

"Ka, ka-kaah~"

Gengar put its hands behind its back, grinned, and gently waved at Walking Wake.

Well, hello there~

"Roar!!"

Walking Wake roared, the water surface immediately broke into waves, rolling up massive splashes as it charged toward Gengar.

In just a blink, Walking Wake had already reached Gengar.

So fast?

Fortunately, Gengar was faster, diving directly down.

Glub glub glub—

Scooping up several scales from underwater, it disappeared into shadows.

"Roar!!"

Walking Wake roared furiously.

Hum—

The temperature in the cave began soaring, and a Sunny Day feeling suddenly permeated the cave.

Sunny Day!

Quite interesting.

Walking Wake was clearly a Water and Dragon-type Pokémon, but regarding weather, it preferred sunny conditions.

The reason was simple—Walking Wake's ability was "Protosynthesis."

[Protosynthesis: When a Pokémon with this ability holds "Booster Energy" or during "Sunny Day," its highest stat except HP receives a thirty percent boost!]

And if the strongest stat was "Speed," the boost would be fifty percent!

But if Johan remembered correctly, Walking Wake's strongest stat should be Special Attack.

But given the speed it just displayed...

Something was wrong.

Very wrong!

Johan frowned.

The old master also seemed surprised, looking at Walking Wake and opening his mouth: "How..."

"It got stronger?" Johan seemed to ask but appeared certain of the answer.

The old master took a deep breath: "Yes..."

Though Walking Wake had displayed its strength when it first returned, it quickly went back to the cave. The old master wasn't present then, and those who were couldn't distinguish Walking Wake's power changes, so they really didn't understand this point.

While Walking Wake was still controlling the weather, venting anger, and searching for Gengar, Johan seriously asked:

"Old master, do you know where Walking Wake went after leaving the Dragon Tamer family?"

Hearing this, the old master smiled helplessly: "We... really don't know much, only that Walking Wake would enter Casseroya Lake periodically..."

"As for where it went after entering Casseroya Lake, or whether it left Casseroya Lake, we have no idea."

Casseroya Lake wasn't just the largest inland lake in the Paldea region—its waterways were very complex, with various branches spreading throughout the entire Paldea region.

Even following waterways, Walking Wake could go anywhere.

Not to mention if Walking Wake went ashore, it could travel much farther.

Knowing nothing about anything.

Johan was even speechless.

Not knowing anything, yet daring to invite people to handle the problem.

Now it seemed Walking Wake probably... wasn't in heat, so the problem might be more troublesome.

But regardless...

Subduing it first couldn't be wrong!

Johan's palm swept across his waist, throwing out a Luxury Ball.

"Go, Ninetales!"

"Oowoo!!"

The snow-white Ninetales appeared in the cave.

Though the Water and Dragon-type Walking Wake was a Dragon-type that didn't fear Ice-type attacks much, Fairy-type's advantage was still obvious.

Especially when Walking Wake's Water-type moves couldn't threaten Ninetales much either.

Of course, the more important point was...

"Oowoo—"

Ninetales raised its head and sang softly. Instantly, the cave that had warmed due to Sunny Day became filled with cold air, and snowflakes began falling.

Snow!

Ninetales' "Snow Warning" ability brought Snow that successfully "covered" Walking Wake's Sunny Day.

After losing Sunny Day, Walking Wake's "Protosynthesis" ability could no longer function.

"Roar!!"

Walking Wake, sensing Sunny Day's disappearance, immediately turned its attention to Ninetales.

Hiss—

Scorching steam immediately rose from Walking Wake's body. The burning steam melted surrounding falling snowflakes, then formed scalding water rushing toward Johan.

Steam!

"Ninetales," Johan waved lightly.

"Oowoo—"

Ninetales looked stern, its nine white ribbon-like tails swaying gently as it opened its mouth slightly, breathing out white air.

Hiss—

Burning steam collided with extreme cold air, immediately producing "hissing" sounds.

The next second, cold air instantly overwhelmed the steam, carrying Snow's chill directly past Walking Wake.

When the cold air dispersed, they saw...

Walking Wake's body surface was covered with a thin layer of ice crystals.

Frozen!

Though Walking Wake was also strong, current Ninetales... was legendary!

However, soon, before Ninetales could reinforce the ice crystals, steam surged again from within Walking Wake's body.

Boom!!

Ice crystals melted!

"Roar—"

Walking Wake roared again, its form disappearing in a blink.

Again, obviously abnormal speed.

But...

Bang!!!

The extremely fast Walking Wake suddenly appeared at Ninetales' left side, but its head seemed to hit solid, transparent glass, stunning itself silly.

"Roar..."

Walking Wake held its head, eyes pure and clear, constantly shaking its head and patting itself before barely standing steady.

Good grief...

How many Aurora Veil layers was that?

It actually blocked everything?

Walking Wake was completely confused.

The Dragon Tamer family's old master's expression was also quite spectacular.

Though he knew Teacher Johan was strong and had seen some livestreams, seeing it up close versus on TV gave completely different feelings and shock.

The old master clearly knew Walking Wake's strength, plus some mysterious reasons had made Walking Wake stronger than usual.

Though Sunny Day was suppressed by Snow...

Not breaking through defenses was too ridiculous!

This was...

"Legendary?" the old master whispered.

Legendary—above Champion level!

And it was an Ice and Fairy-type Ninetales.

Just this one Ninetales alone, their Dragon Tamer family trying to defeat it would probably...

Johan raised his hand lightly.

When fighting "Treasures of Ruin" Pokémon, Gengar and Ninetales hadn't really acted much. Now using type advantage against Walking Wake was somewhat bullying.

So, better end this quickly...

"Ninetales, Freeze-Dry!"

"Oowoo!"

Instantly, ice crystals formed at Ninetales' feet while frosty white air slowly blew from its mouth.

Whoosh—

Frosty cold air swept over Walking Wake.

Walking Wake's body surface was again covered with ice crystals, more solid and transparent than before.

Though Freeze-Dry was an Ice-type move, against the Water and Dragon-type Walking Wake, it was four times effective!

Generally, Water-type Pokémon resisted Ice-type moves by half, but Freeze-Dry was an exception—it could deal double damage to Water-type Pokémon!

Plus Ice-type's advantage over Dragon-type...

So Ninetales' Freeze-Dry was four times effective against Walking Wake.

After this Freeze-Dry attack, Walking Wake was directly frozen into an ice sculpture.

It lost fighting ability!

"Oowoo~"

Ninetales breathed out again, reinforcing the ice crystals on Walking Wake.

The old master recovered from his shock at Ninetales defeating Walking Wake instantly, taking a deep breath: "Worthy of being called the most promising to become the strongest Cham—"

Before finishing, Ninetales breathed out again.

"Oowoo~"

Crack crack crack—

The ice crystals on Walking Wake were reinforced again.

Old master: "?"

"Cough." Johan coughed lightly, stopping Ninetales. "Ninetales, that's enough."

You see, old master, some things really shouldn't be said carelessly. He didn't dare claim the title of "strongest Champion."

"Oowoo."

Ninetales nodded seriously.

Though it was still somewhat worried about what would happen if Walking Wake broke free from the ice crystal restraints, hearing Johan's words, it obediently stopped.

Looking at the lifelike Walking Wake, Lance clicked his tongue in amazement.

"This guy really looks like Suicune. Who would have thought it was actually a Dragon-type Pokémon..."

Not just Lance—Cynthia and Clair were equally curious about Walking Wake.

However, the most important thing now was finding the reason for Walking Wake's current condition.

Johan closed his eyes. Cynthia beside him said:

"Johan, be careful."

"Mm."

Aura dwells within the heart!

Johan used his aura power to try sensing Walking Wake's condition.

But soon, Johan's eyes suddenly opened as he grabbed Cynthia's hand and quickly retreated, shouting:

"Lance, retreat!"

Hearing this, Lance's expression changed as he immediately disregarded everything else, directly scooping up the bewildered Clair and retreating.

Old master: "?"

Crack!!

A fissure actually appeared in the ice crystals encasing Walking Wake.

"Oowoo..."

Ninetales, who had retreated with Johan, widened its eyes.

It knew it should have cautiously added a few hundred more reinforcing layers earlier!

However, Johan was being somewhat overly nervous, because after the crack appeared, Walking Wake didn't break free—only a... pink mist escaped.

"Pink?"

Seeing that mist, Johan was stunned.

Pink...

"Johan, what's wrong?" Cynthia asked softly, her other hand already gripping a Poké Ball at her waist. If the situation turned bad, she'd immediately summon Garchomp and the others.

With three Champions present, forget Walking Wake—even if a first-class legendary came, it wouldn't gain any advantage.

"Pink mist..."

Johan didn't answer Cynthia's question but lowered his head, rubbing his chin thoughtfully.

He felt like... he had some impression of this.

Seeing Johan thinking, Cynthia knew not to press and waited silently.

The old master, seeing Walking Wake hadn't broken free from the ice crystal restraints, also relaxed slightly and withdrew his hand from his Poké Ball.

Huff—

"I know!"

Johan suddenly looked up, saying gravely.

Under Cynthia's gaze, he said seriously: "It's Rakua elements!"

"Rakua elements?" Cynthia looked confused.

The old master was equally bewildered.

What were Rakua elements?

Johan didn't explain, because this matter... was quite complex.

If he really explained, it would involve the story of the "Explorers" trio from over a hundred years ago—Lucius, Gibeon, and Lisiantha.

Lucius, Gibeon, and Lisiantha formed the "Explorers" with the goal of reaching the paradise "Rakua."

Lucius was the trainer of the "Six Heroes," including a black Rayquaza.

Gibeon was currently Outstanding Inc.'s president and the "Explorers'" current leader, with his strongest Pokémon being a white Zygarde, also targeting Rakua elements.

Lisiantha fell in love with Lucius during exploration. Liko, one of the protagonists in "Pokémon Horizons," was her descendant. The legendary Pokémon Terapagos, related to Paldea region's Terastallization legend, was actually her Pokémon.

These three each had a legendary Pokémon, two of which were even shiny!

Black Rayquaza, white Zygarde, and Terapagos.

Such a lineup was practically invincible.

The "Explorers" they formed eventually found the paradise "Rakua" and discovered abundant Rakua elements within.

It was precisely because of Rakua elements that the three "Explorers" had conflicts.

Because Rakua elements made Pokémon irritable. Though their strength increased, there were unknown hidden dangers.

So Lucius believed Rakua elements shouldn't leave "paradise" and appear before the world.

But Gibeon thought Rakua elements could make Pokémon stronger. As long as they controlled the negative effects, it could benefit the entire Pokémon world—they should utilize it.

Thus, the two fought.

Ultimately, Lucius and Lisiantha joined forces to seal the "paradise" and its Rakua elements, with only a small portion taken out by Gibeon.

During this, Gibeon's Zygarde, sensing the threat of Rakua elements, ignored Gibeon's commands and separated its cells to prevent Rakua element spread, further stabilizing the seal.

Later, through Gibeon's research, he discovered Rakua elements could not only make Pokémon stronger but also extend lifespans!

This was why Outstanding Inc.'s Gibeon was still alive.

Walking Wake's previous behavior indeed resembled being affected by Rakua elements.

More importantly, the pink mist it released after being defeated by Ninetales made Johan almost certain of this.

But... how did Walking Wake get infected with Rakua elements?

The elements had clearly been sealed by Lucius and his six Pokémon, plus all of Terapagos' power...

Could it be that Lucius and Terapagos' seal had loosened?

Causing Rakua elements to escape again?

But Zygarde's cells would prevent Rakua element escape...

Or perhaps Walking Wake encountered Gibeon or Outstanding Inc. people?

Johan felt quite frustrated—"Pokémon Horizons" hadn't finished updating before he came to the Pokémon world.

"It's fine now." Johan pressed his hands down, saying to Ninetales: "Ninetales, release Walking Wake."

With many doubts in his heart, perhaps Walking Wake could give him some answers when it woke up.

"Is it... really fine?" the old master was still somewhat uncertain.

But Cynthia and Ninetales absolutely trusted Johan's words one hundred percent.

"Oowoo~"

Ninetales sang softly, and the ice crystals freezing Walking Wake rapidly melted.

"Is the problem serious?" Seeing Johan's serious expression earlier, Cynthia finally asked.

"I don't know either." Johan shrugged.

This time, he truly couldn't be certain.

But... involving Rakua elements, involving the "Explorers," involving Gibeon—it definitely wouldn't be easy to handle.

However, after questioning Walking Wake and getting a general direction, there wouldn't be need to worry too much.

Speaking of which, he looked at Lance and Clair, teasingly joking:

"Oh, still holding her?"

Earlier Lance had instinctively scooped up Clair while retreating and still hadn't put her down.

Clair's face was instantly covered in pink, her hands firmly locked around Lance's neck.

"Oh, I was focused on staying alert and listening to you—forgot about it." Lance laughed heartily, setting Clair down while scratching his head.

Clair: "?"

Just put her down like that?

Cynthia couldn't help laughing at Lance's behavior.

Johan shook his head even more, saying with "disdain":

"No wonder you're single, Lance."
