Chapter 9 - The Report

After returning to Beacon Academy, Glynda immediately makes her trip to Ozpin's office to brief him on the mission. Reaper went off to do his own thing. She was still shaken a little by Reaper's combat display. The speed of which he used to take down those people was almost frightening. Though, she now knows not to underestimate Reaper given the skills he displayed. But something was off with Reaper. The way he danced with death, it was practiced.

It's clear he has experience but how long has he been killing? This brews suspicion in Glynda's mind, not to say she didn't trust him before, but her suspicions of him are increasing. Though she can acknowledge his skills at dispatching the Soldiers without killing any civilians. It told her that Reaper isn't just a mindless killer, at least she thinks so. She hopes he isn't a mindless killer, because if he was then Beacon has a huge threat within its walls. She hears a ding, and the elevator door opens revealing Ozpin's office. Inside, Ozpin held a mug with supposedly coffee inside of it.

Ozpin stopped drinking his coffee as he heard the ding from the elevator and his eyes quickly glance towards it. When he sees Glynda walking into the room and thus towards him, he puts his mug down on his desk and addresses Glynda.

"I take it the mission went well?" Ozpin asked.

"If by going well you mean the eruption of a gunfight, then yes. It went well." Glynda said, remaining calm though a hint of frustration evident in her tone and mannerism.

Ozpin picked up on that quickly and grew ever curious as to what happened during the mission. He hopes nothing bad happened.

"Tell me, how did the mission go?" Ozpin asks as he rests his hands in front of him.

Glynda begins to explain how it went step by step. They arrived and a number of Soldiers were present. Glynda described the Soldiers and their uniforms same with their weapons. She then explained how despite her attempts to peacefully end the hostilities it failed, and Reaper acted. He opened fire upon the soldiers and killed most of them. He then unleashed what Glynda assumed was a Semblance, she didn't know what Death Blossom was. Ozpin absorbed all this information into his head as he began to process and break it down. What worried him was the description of the Soldiers. Red uniformed soldiers can only mean one thing in Ozpin's mind. But then his mind wandered to Reaper and how Glynda described his combat skills. His dance with death was practiced, like he was a professional in killing others. Ozpin knew that this was dangerous and useful.

"At least the White Fang and no civilians were harmed." Ozpin said. "However, these soldiers elicit concern."

"How come?" Glynda asked.

"Are you familiar with Red Sector?" Ozpin asked.

"A little bit." Glynda admits. "They're a Militant faction with a great distaste for Huntsmen."

It then clicks to Glynda who looks shocked.

"Wait, then that means..." Glynda said before Ozpin cut her off and finished her sentence.

"Those soldiers were members of Red Sector." Ozpin said.

The severity of the situation finally sets in. Red Sector Soldiers were killed which would no doubt lead to a large escalation between them and Huntsmen. Then a question enters Glynda's mind and it's about Reaper.

"What about Reaper?" Glynda asked. "He's partially to blame for the escalation."

"I wouldn't say that." Ozpin said.

This confused Glynda greatly and Ozpin picked up on it, so he elaborated.

"From what you've told me; the Red Sector Soldiers didn't halt or stop to listen to reason. They aimed their weapons with the intent of harming the Faunus and Reaper acted." Ozpin explained. "To me that seems like Reaper was doing his job in protecting the Faunus. The mission was to prevent the White Fang from being harmed."

"It could've been handled without casualties." Glynda mumbled, but Ozpin heard it.

"I agree, I would've like for things to not have escalated to violence. But as Huntsmen and Huntresses, this is what type of things we face on a daily basis. It was bound to happen." Ozpin told Glynda.

As much as Ozpin himself dislikes the idea of having to resort to violence, even he is willing to admit that violence is inevitable. Yet the question remained, what do they do with Reaper? They can't just have him wondering around unchecked. They know nothing about him besides the fact that he's from another world apparently. Only Ozpin knows this, but still. Ozpin himself isn't quite sure just who Reaper is. Is he a terrorist? Is he a hero? Is he a vigilante? He doesn't know, neither does Glynda know.

"And Reaper?" Glynda asked.

"We allow him to help us with this pressing situation as a further test if we can truly trust him." Ozpin said.

"You're putting a lot of focus into him." Glynda points out. "Why?"

"Let's just say, I have a feeling that Reaper could prove to be very helpful in... certain situations." Ozpin said.

[Meanwhile]

Reaper had returned to the staff dorm room he was given, and he went into the bathroom to look at himself in the mirror. He removed his mask and pushed his hood down and he saw his younger face. The face he had before it all went wrong. Before he had become, REAPER. Before he crossed the line and became a monster. He regrets his actions, at least, he does now. Back then he didn't. So consumed by anger to think straight. He fell into darkness because of his own choices, not because of others. He then thinks about the people he once considered friends. Specifically, Jack Morrison. Everything began to go wrong the day he and Jack began their feud. Thinking back, he was so stupid. So caught up in his emotions. He secretly wishes he could go back and make things right. But Jack hates him, and he doubts he'll get that chance.

[Elsewhere]

Back at the village that Reaper slaughtered the Soldiers in, a single Dropship like aircraft had landed as a few more of the Soldiers, the same ones as the ones Reaper killed, had arrived in the village. One of the soldiers wore a different type of uniform. He kept the same tactical appearance, but he had his sleeves rolled up, a hat and no face mask. He wore sunglasses and had a neatly kept beard. This man looked around at the damage the village sustained from the firefight. Two of the Soldiers with the man guided a Human over to him.

"Mind telling me what exactly happened here?" The man asked, with a neutral expression.

"Who are you?" the human asked.

"Logan Archer." The man, now named Logan, replied before leaning closer. "What happened here?"

The human then went into detail explaining how two Huntsmen arrived at the village and defended the White Fang from them. The Soldiers that were here instigated conflict and one of the Huntsmen with twin shotguns fired the first shot and massacred the soldiers with help from the Huntress. Logan took all of this in while his soldiers around him listened in. Once the villager finished, Logan stepped away from the human villager and leaned into one of his soldiers.

"Tell Monarch that we need to quicken things up or our operations will meet serious opposition." Logan whispered.

The soldier nods before Logan stepped back over to the human villager.

"Thanks for telling me." Logan said.

"Who even are you people?" The human asked.

"Red Sector." Logan said.
