You did well," Alex praised.

"Thank you, you are needed at the main office for your signature and approval," she replied.

"I guess you are coming along with me," he said, not waiting for her reply.

By the time they got to the office, Amelia was a sleepy mess. She lay down in Alex's inner room in his office.

She was woken up for lunch by Alex and took a taxi back home to retire for the day.

She retired into her own house and continued research as she always did, going through Alex's files to make sure it was up to date and flexible.

The next day her car was already transported from the cinema back to her. So she went to Alex's house to pick him up and together they went to the office. She spent the rest of the morning making calls and appointments, and by 12:00pm she was out with Alex to a clothing warehouse to help them with transportation issues.

If you didn't know her and Alex had an employer-employee relationship, outside you would have mistaken them for couples.

Soon, Amelia became one of Alex's most trustworthy people. He assigned her tasks he trusted with no one, told her personal details, bought her things unconsciously, stayed with her while she was sick, and took her as his date to important banquets and dinners.

She was soon known by everyone. No one dared cross her for fear of retaliation from Alex. Everyone always rushed to please her and help her do things they wouldn't have done on a normal day.

She was living the life. Alex became her bestie and caleb her brother, protecting her through life's journeys and guiding her.

She knew Alex's favourite drink, his birthday, plans, his allergies, even his health issues.

She took her job seriously, knowing no one would treat her as good as they did.

The following week was hectic. Alex had three major deals to seal, and Amelia was running around to make sure everything stayed on track.

She was the one who noticed the mistake in the contract draft and corrected it before Alex signed. She was also the one who rescheduled two clashing meetings without anyone realizing the change. By now, the entire office knew—if you wanted to reach Alex, you went through Amelia first.

One evening, after a long day, Amelia sat at her desk going through pending emails when Alex walked up to her.

"You've done more than enough today. Go home, Amelia," he said firmly.

She smiled faintly. "I'll just finish these, sir."

"You never stop, do you?" Alex asked, shaking his head with amusement. "Fine, but don't blame me if you collapse from exhaustion."

Amelia laughed lightly. "Someone has to make sure you don't forget the small things."

At that, Alex grew quiet for a moment. "I know. And that's why I trust you."

His words lingered with her long after she left the office. Trust. It wasn't something Alex gave easily, yet here she was—carrying his secrets, his schedules, even his moods.

She was his person. It had been a while since she felt like this; only he cared for her like this. She felt safe.

Alex had done it again. Another fateful day, another night where he worked until his eyes refused to stay open. He thought he'd only rest his head for a few minutes, but of course, those few minutes turned into hours. By the time he opened his eyes, sunlight was already leaking through the blinds, and the time on his phone almost made his heart stop. Fifteen minutes before one of the most important meetings of his life.

He jumped up, hair a mess, shirt wrinkled, tie nowhere in sight. No breakfast, no coffee, no time. He just grabbed his jacket and bolted out the door like someone running from fire.

Behind the wheel, the panic set in. Traffic lights that normally didn't bother him now felt like enemies. He tapped the steering wheel, muttering under his breath, already rehearsing excuses to give the client if he showed up late. Then suddenly, it hit him—where was the file? That file. The one thing he absolutely couldn't afford to forget.

He pulled the car over, searched the seat beside him, the glove compartment, the passenger floor. Nothing. His stomach dropped. "You've got to be kidding me," he groaned, already fishing for his phone.

Amelia. She was always the first person that came to mind in situations like this. He dialed her number.

"Good morning, Alex," she answered, her voice too calm for the storm brewing in his chest.

I'm fifteen minutes from a meeting that could decide the future of this company, and the file—"

"It's in your car," she cut in smoothly.

He blinked. "No, it's not. I just checked."

"Yes, it is. Back seat, bottom corner. Remember? I told you yesterday that I'd put it there so you wouldn't leave it behind."

Alex twisted in his seat, grumbling as he stretched an arm behind him. He pushed aside an old notebook and a half-empty water bottle—and there it was. The file, right where she said it would be. He pulled it out slowly, staring at it like it was some kind of miracle.

Silence filled the line before Amelia's laugh drifted through. "You found it, didn't you?"

Alex didn't even have the energy to argue. He just let out a breath he didn't know he was holding. "Yeah," he admitted, shaking his head. "You're unbelievable."

But in that moment, something clicked in his mind. It wasn't just about her saving his ass again. It was the way she thought ahead for him, the way she always knew what he needed even before he did. Amelia wasn't just efficient—she was dependable in a way no one else in his life had ever been.

As he drove off, file safe on the passenger seat, Alex realized something he hadn't allowed himself to admit before. He loved his dependence on Amelia. She wasn't just an assistant—she was the perfect woman for the job.
