Adrian hurried after Mygrath, trying not to get lost in the huge hallway. Everything around him looked expensive—polished floors, tall doors, glowing lamps that looked like they belonged in a palace.
Mygrath walked calmly, hands behind his back.
"First," he said, "you will stay in a guest room. It is close to the training hall, so you won't get lost."
Adrian nodded quickly. "O-okay."
They reached an elevator. Mygrath pressed a button, and the doors opened with a soft ring. Adrian stepped inside, feeling small. The elevator moved smoothly upward.
"You must understand," Mygrath continued, "Lord Alex did not bring you here by accident. If he says you have potential, then you do."
Adrian looked down. "I… I don't even know what I am."
"That is why you are here," Mygrath said. "To learn. To grow. And to stop shaking like a baby rabbit."
Adrian flushed red. "S-sorry…"
Mygrath sighed. "Do not apologize. Improve."
The doors opened.
The hallway here was quieter. Softer lights, warm colors, and doors spaced far apart. Mygrath stopped at one.
"This will be your room."
He opened the door and stepped aside. Adrian peeked in.
It wasn't huge, but it was clean and comfortable—soft bed, a desk, a small sofa, and a window that showed the glowing city outside.
Adrian stepped in slowly.
"This is… really nice," he said softly.
Mygrath nodded. "Good. You will rest tonight. Tomorrow morning, training begins. I will teach you how to control your shadow ability."
Adrian felt his chest tighten again. "Do… you think I can really learn it?"
Mygrath gave him a rare, small smile.
"You survived a Terrigen-type awakening without dying. Most people do not. So yes—you can learn."
Adrian's eyes widened.
Mygrath stepped back.
"Call if you need anything. There is a button by the bed."
He turned to leave, then paused.
"And child… do not wander the estate alone. Some rooms are sealed for a reason."
Adrian gulped. "O-okay. I won't."
"Good night," Mygrath said, bowing slightly.
"Good night," Adrian replied.
The door closed.
Adrian let out a long breath and sank onto the bed. The past hours felt unreal—shadows, powers, Alex's words, everything.
He looked down at his hands. Faint, soft shadows flickered around his fingers.
"…My own power," he whispered.
"Well… no wonder," Adrian muttered. "I never saw that purple energy moving inside me whenever I used my powers. It was never really mine—it was just there for show."
He shook his head, letting out a small laugh.
"Still… it's because of Alex that I even got this far. He's the reason I got this power. And I…"
He smiled softly.
"…I want to be like him someday."
The lights in his eyes faded, and the last bits of unstable shadow around him slowly disappeared.
Adrian lay back onto the bed.
The moment his head touched the pillow, he finally relaxed.
Within seconds, he drifted off to sleep.
Adrian slept deeply through the night, exhausted from everything that had happened.
When morning came, sunlight slipped through the window and hit his face. He blinked a few times, confused about where he was. Then he remembered—the mansion, Alex, Mygrath, the talk about his powers.
He sat up slowly.
His body felt lighter. The heavy, dark feeling from the demonic residue was almost completely gone. Only a small bit of shadow energy moved under his skin, but it felt different now—calmer, like it actually belonged to him.
A soft knock came at the door.
"Enter," Adrian called quietly.
Mygrath stepped inside, holding a tray with breakfast: eggs, toast, fruit, and a glass of something bright blue.
"You will need energy," Mygrath said. "Today's training will not be easy."
Adrian gulped. "Right… thank you."
Mygrath placed the tray on the desk and looked at him carefully.
"You seem more stable this morning," he said.
"I guess… yeah," Adrian replied. "I don't feel like I'm going to explode anymore."
"That is good. The foreign energy is almost gone. What remains is your own shadow ability." Mygrath straightened his gloves. "Eat. Then meet me in the training hall down the corridor."
Adrian nodded. "Okay."
Mygrath turned to leave, but paused at the door.
"And Adrian," he added, "do not compare yourself to Lord Alex. Become strong in your own way."
Adrian blinked. "…Right."
Mygrath left.
Adrian ate quickly, washed his face, and put on the fresh clothes that had been placed in the room—a simple black training outfit.
His heart pounded as he walked down the hallway.
He wasn't sure if he was ready.
He wasn't sure if he could control anything.
But he wanted to try.
When he reached the training hall and opened the door, he stopped in shock.
The room was huge—taller than a gym, with smooth gray floors, glowing symbols on the walls, and strange devices stored neatly along one side.
Mygrath stood in the center, waiting.
"You came," Mygrath said. "Good. Let us begin."
Adrian stepped inside, nervous but determined.
"What do I do first?" he asked.
Mygrath pointed at the floor.
"First," he said, "show me the shadow you can create without the demonic residue. Just your own power."
Adrian took a deep breath, lifted his hand, and tried to focus.
At first, nothing happened.
Then the moment he used his power, his shadow suddenly reacted. It stretched across the floor, split into several pieces, and shaped itself into rough weapons—hammers, fists, and blunt shapes made for knocking things back, not killing.
Mygrath watched quietly and nodded to himself.
A child who uses his power to disable, not destroy, he thought.
"This much… I can do," Adrian said, a little nervous but proud that something finally worked.
Mygrath nodded once.
"Good. Very good. This is the natural form of your power—shadows shaped by your emotions and intent. We will refine it."
Adrian stared at the shadow shapes trembling on the floor—awkward fists, uneven hammers, and messy blobs that only looked like weapons if someone squinted hard enough.
They wobbled, then collapsed back into a single, shaky shadow under him.
He winced. "Uh… I think I broke it."
Mygrath raised an eyebrow. "You did not 'break' anything. Your power is simply untrained. Stand properly."
Adrian straightened his back.
"Feet apart," Mygrath instructed.
Adrian adjusted his stance.
"Shoulders relaxed."
Adrian tried. He looked more tense than ever.
Mygrath sighed. "Relaxed, not petrified."
