Chapter 8 - Tron

As we stood beneath the spotlight, light suddenly flooded the room. I'd have been blinded if my helmet weren't on. Looking around the once dark room, I see a door appear a few feet away from us.

"Come, we have much to discuss." Tron said, not waiting for me to catch up, as he was already heading out the door.

Watching him exit the room, I sighed before reluctantly following him. Once I was out of the previous room, I looked around to see that I was now in a vast room that had windows lining the entire space.

Seeing as Tron was nowhere to be seen, I looked toward some stairs that were placed in the center of the room. Walking up the stairs, I'm led to the second floor only to see a big rectangular arc that Tron stood in front of while he looked out toward the city.

As I moved to stand beside him, he glanced toward me before letting out a long sigh and speaking.

"A war is raging. Most of Clu's generals have taken over almost every city on the Grid. Yet I find most programs lack the ability to understand the gravity of what is happening." He started.

I listened ‌as he continued to let out his frustrations. I could understand, mostly because of my memories. Tron's been on the Grid longer than both Beck and me.

"Some haven't the slightest clue of what's really happening. They go bout their lives as if everything is fine. But it's not." He sighed.

Tron was right. Almost nobody knew the things Clu had done. They understood what was happening now. Yet they continued to act as if nothing was wrong.

"Every program on the Grid has a fixed job. They can change them, but usually they don't. Discovering what happened to Clu's statue initially excited me. A program that denied their programming. No less, wearing my symbol. A renegade." He paused for a moment before continuing.

"So, I watched him. I thought I could find a protégé. He was skilled, but not skilled enough he could outmatch Tesler's commander. When he escaped into the outlands, I knew it was my chance to collect him. So imagine my surprise when I found you surrounded by scattered cubes instead." He said.

A bitter smile formed on his face. It looked like he was reminiscing before he went stone-faced and turned to me.

"I thought of just leaving you where I found you, but there was this feeling I couldn't shake. A sense of familiarity. That program must've felt it too. That must have why he gave you his disc. Programs will never willingly give someone their disc." He grunted as he stared into my helmet.

"So you're saying I'm special?" I asked while crossing my arms.

"You are something much more. Which is why I can't let someone like you slip from my grasp. You are the key to ending this war." He stated, his gaze filled with an intensity that made me fidget a little.

"Look, I'm not here to fight in anyone's war. I'm looking for someone."

"And who might that be?" Tron asked as he crossed his arms.

"Flynn."

Tron's eyes visibly widened at the name.

"Flynn… I haven't heard that name in a long time. Sorry to tell you, but Flynn's gone. No one's seen him in cycles." He said as he clenched his fists.

"What?"

Moving past me, he stepped into a ring that enveloped him in glowing lights that slowly began to reveal many large wounds.

"Clu betrayed me. He left me with scars that can never heal. He took everything from me. Everything I once had, everything I once knew. Gone. Everything but my name. Tron."

"And what do you want me to do about it?" I said as I leaned against the window.

"I want you to help me carry on that name. My name. To show every program that as long as Tron lives, there's still hope."

I stared at Tron for a while. Flynn has been missing for a while now. No one knows where he is, and we have a tyrant going around trying to remake everything in his image.

"Give me some time. There's some stuff that I need to take care of. I'll give you my answer after I'm finished." I sighed.

"When you're ready, I'll be here." he said as he walked out of the ring, causing the scars to vanish.

Getting up from my leaned position, I walk toward the stairs before pausing.

"Uh, where's the exit?"

 "That way." He pointed.
