Zhuo Wenjun was captivatingly beautiful and skilled in music, calligraphy, painting, poetry, and song – a talented woman of the highest order. This talented woman wrote a letter to Sima Xiangru, accompanying it with a poem:
"White as the snow on mountains, bright as the moon between clouds. I hear you have two hearts, thus I come to break this off."
"Today we drink together, tomorrow by the river's head. Walking along beside the river, the waters flow east and west."
"So desolate and so bleak, there's no need to weep at weddings. Wishing for a loyal person, to not part until our hair turns white."
"The bamboo pole is so slender, the fish's tail so swift. For a man to value camaraderie, what use is money for?"
A talented woman of her time, Zhuo Wenjun neither wallowed in self-pity nor was a shrew; she wrote a poem-letter to Sima Xiangru.
