The movie begins with a straightforward narrative technique, first describing the current situation of the male protagonist, Xia Buming.
The initial few scenes all explain that Xia Buming is a down-and-out small employee who does nothing well.
He is often criticized by his boss, but indeed, he deserves the criticism.
Because he does things vaguely and procrastinates, he also has a habit of losing interest quickly. One moment he solemnly swears to make a change, vowing to stop continuing like this, and the next moment he turns around and forgets, reverting back to his slumped state.
Xia Buming is someone many people in real life can resonate with, as many can find their own shadow in him, and such people are quite common in society.
But everything changes when, in the bitter cold winter, on his way to work, Xia Buming is knocked into by a beggar who steals all the money on him.
