Loman's fumbling apology, combined with his hand on Ashlynn's shoulder, did nothing to make the situation between them better. Instead, it made it even worse as Ashlynn bristled under Loman's touch.
"I know," Ashlynn said as she reached up to pull his hand off her shoulder without turning around to look at him. "It's too soon. The wounds are still too fresh. By the time the wounds have healed, if they ever do, it may be too late," she said with a heavy sigh.
