Before the Austrian Grand Prix could reach the window where teams begin calling their drivers in for the first pit stop phase, another twist hit the race that was already filled with enough electricity.
A second crash occurred, consisting of just a sole driver. So this time, it wasn't as dramatic as the earlier Matteo-Derstappen affair, but it was significant enough to bring out the Virtual Safety Car for a brief moment before Race Control opted for a second full Safety Car deployment.
The development forced the teams to forge new recalculations because the field was once again bunched up as a result of the parade. So, since time gaps were flattened, whatever strategy some teams had begun to lean into prior to the pit stop suddenly needed redirection.
