Kagetsu's hand was six feet away from him.
He knew that the way he knew his own name — immediately, without needing to check. It was still closed around the figure's wrist. The knuckles were still white with effort. The mark still ran up the back of it in a color nobody had a name for yet.
And he was standing here.
Not floating. Not detached in the way Ch. 345's vision-swap had felt, watching the world through somebody else's eyes. He could feel the floor of Corridor Seven under his own two feet, the cold of it coming up through his sandals same as always. He could feel his own chest rising and falling. He could feel — distantly, like a phone left in another room, ringing — his fingers, gripping something that his brain insisted was still attached to him.
"Don't move," Orochimaru said. Quiet. Controlled. The kind of quiet that meant he was working very hard not to sound like he was panicking. "Either of you. Don't move."
*
Kushina's chains lay slack around the wrist he could feel but not see.
Cold. She'd said that word out loud a second ago, almost to herself, and Kagetsu had felt it land somewhere he didn't have language for — not in the hand, not in the body he was currently standing in, but in whatever thin thread was still keeping the two of him one person.
"They've never done that," Kushina said. "Not once. Not against anything." She hadn't let go of the chain. Her knuckles were as white as the hand's. "They're not just cold, they're — Minato, they're not there. I can feel the loop, I can feel the metal, but there's nothing on the other end saying it's mine anymore."
"It's still yours," Minato said, though he didn't sound certain of it. His kunai was already in his hand. He hadn't drawn it toward anything — there was nothing yet to draw it toward — but he was holding it like a man who intended to use it in the next ten seconds if the wrong thing happened.
Orochimaru hadn't moved from where he'd frozen mid-lunge, close enough to the detached hand that he could have touched it, not touching it.
[Talent Card: Divergent Expression]
World: Naruto
Quality: Epic
Effect: Colony-linked chakra signature analysis, threat classification, and situational recommendation.
Ch. 360 — LIVE READ IN PROGRESS: Two confirmed presences detected, sharing one signature ID. Point A (the hand, six feet from primary body) reads Kagetsu's full baseline signature at 100%. Point B (the body, standing) also reads Kagetsu's full baseline signature at 100%. This is not a split. A split would show two partial signatures. This shows two complete ones. No precedent on file. No recommendation offered.

"Say that again," Kagetsu said. His own voice sounded strange to him, coming out of a mouth he could feel and a chest he could feel, while six feet away a hand that was unmistakably his kept its grip on the figure's wrist without so much as a tremor. "Say the part about complete."
"Two of you," Orochimaru said slowly, like he was tasting the words before he trusted them. "Not half of you here and half of you there. Two readings, both whole. Both real."
"That's not possible," Kagetsu said, and then had to stop, because it plainly was possible, because it was happening to him right now, and the sentence had nowhere left to go.
The figure hadn't spoken. It hadn't moved either, as far as Kagetsu could tell from here — still frozen at the far end of the contact, wrist still held. Its remaining eye was fixed on the hand. Not on Kagetsu. On the hand, specifically, like it recognized something in the grip that Kagetsu didn't.
"Can you feel it?" Orochimaru asked him. Still not touching anything. "The hand. Can you move it?"
Kagetsu tried.
Nothing happened that he could see — the hand didn't so much as twitch — but something answered anyway, distant and delayed, the way a shout answers back off a canyon wall a half-second after you've already stopped listening for it. A pressure. A yes, I heard you, arriving too late to matter.
"I can feel it hearing me," Kagetsu said. "It's just not — it's not fast. It's like talking to someone down a very long hallway."
"Or through a door," Kushina said, and everyone went still at that, because nobody in this corridor used the word door casually anymore.
*
"The mark," Minato said. "Kagetsu — the color. What is it doing right now?"
Kagetsu looked down at the arm he could see, the one attached to the body he was currently occupying. Nothing. No spread, no glow, no warmth. Whatever the third color had been, it wasn't here.
"It's not on this one," he said. "Orochimaru — is it still on the—"
"Still there," Orochimaru confirmed, eyes on the hand. "Steady. Not spreading, not fading. Just... sitting on it. Like it's holding something open."
[Talent Card: Divergent Expression — continued]
Working theory (unconfirmed, offered with explicit low confidence): the third color is not damage and not decoration. It functions as an anchor point — the specific location where "two complete signatures" is currently possible to sustain. Removing the hand from proximity to the figure, or forcibly reuniting it with the primary body, carries unknown risk in either direction. No safe action identified. First-ever "no safe action" classification issued by this system.
"Wonderful," Kushina muttered. "So we can't pull him back and we can't leave him split. Anyone else want to suggest a third option, because I'm fresh out."
Nobody answered her. The hand's grip on the figure's wrist hadn't loosened even slightly, all this time, and Kagetsu realized with a slow, sick feeling that he had no idea whether that was because he was still choosing to hold on — or because something else was.
*
It was the figure that finally spoke.
Its voice came out thin, worn down to almost nothing by whatever the last several minutes had cost it — the memory exchange, the source candidate's wavering grip, all of it stacked on top of a body that was already leaking light out of a crack it hadn't known how to survive.
"This isn't him," it said. Not looking up from the hand. "The one holding on right now. That's not the boy standing over there."
Kagetsu felt something go cold in the body he was occupying — the real one, the standing one, the one with the racing heart. "What do you mean it's not me?"
"I mean exactly that." The figure's remaining eye finally lifted, found him across the distance, and there was something in it that hadn't been there during the memory exchange. Something closer to fear. "Your hand is still yours. But whoever's using it right now isn't asking your permission anymore. It stopped asking about four seconds after the interruption. I didn't want to say it while there was still a chance I was wrong."
"Divergent Expression just read one hundred percent Kagetsu-baseline off both points," Orochimaru said, sharp. "Both. Not diluted, not overwritten. If something else is driving that hand, the colony can't see it."
"Of course it can't," the figure said, and for the first time all night, it sounded less like something ancient and careful and more like something exhausted and afraid. "It's not driving it from outside. It's driving it from underneath. Same signature, same face, same everything your colony knows how to check for — because it isn't wearing him like a mask." Its eye didn't leave Kagetsu's. "It's using the door you already built. The one that's been open since Chapter 356. It just found a second way through it."
The hand's grip shifted for the first time since the separation — not releasing, not tightening. Turning. Slow, deliberate, testing the angle of the figure's wrist like it was looking for something specific to break.
"Whoever's in there," the figure said, voice dropping to something almost too quiet to hear over the sudden, sharp intake of Kushina's breath beside him, "isn't the source candidate anymore either. It's already gone quiet. This is someone new."
The hand tightened.
And six feet away, in a body he could feel breathing and couldn't feel moving, Kagetsu watched his own fingers begin, very deliberately, to crush the bones in the figure's wrist.
*
"Orochimaru." Kushina's voice had gone flat, the way it did right before she stopped asking and started acting. "Tell me right now if grabbing that hand makes this worse, because I am about three seconds from grabbing it anyway."
"I don't know," Orochimaru said, and it cost him visibly to say it — Kagetsu had known the man five years and had heard him say I don't know maybe twice in all that time. "The colony has no safe action logged. That's not caution, Kushina, that's the honest answer. We could sever something we can't put back."
"We could also stand here and watch it break his wrist off," Kushina snapped back, and nobody corrected her use of his — it wasn't clear anymore whose wrist she meant, the figure's or the hand's, and that ambiguity was somehow the worst part of it.
Minato hadn't spoken in almost a full minute. When he did, it was low, and aimed only at Kagetsu — the standing one, the breathing one. "Can you feel what it's doing? Right now. Not the hand hearing you. You feeling it."
Kagetsu reached for the answer the way he'd reach for a memory that wasn't quite his — and found, underneath the delay, underneath the long hallway, something pushing back against him that had never once, in Chapter 356 or 357 or 358, felt like this. Not hungry. Not searching. Patient. Like it had already won and was only now getting around to telling him.
"It's not fighting me," he said, and his own voice sounded very far away, even to himself. "It's not even trying. It's just... waiting for me to notice I've already lost this part."
Somewhere past the edge of what he could feel, a fourth crack opened in the sound of bone.
