After the meeting concluded, Nick Fury spoke with Noah briefly, then returned to his conversation with Talos. Having learned that Noah might have already deduced Talos's true identity through some method, he decided to return and discuss it with him. However, his plans were interrupted by an urgent message from Agent Hill.
"What? The Tesseract's energy fluctuations are unstable?" Upon hearing the agent's first words over the phone, his pupils constricted.
He understood the potential danger the Tesseract posed. Used correctly, it could be immensely beneficial, but if something unforeseen happened, the consequences could be catastrophic.
"Yes, sir. An hour ago, the Tesseract suddenly activated and began emitting unstable energy," Hill reported from the scene.
"Alright. Is Dr. Selvig there yet?" He quickly regained his composure, realizing that panic wouldn't help.
Erik Selvig, the professor previously involved in the incident in New Mexico, was one of the scientists studying the Tesseract. After the events with Thor, he accepted S.H.I.E.L.D.'s offer and was brought by Agent Coulson to a secret laboratory to study the cube.
"Yes, Dr. Selvig is already working on it," Hill reported concisely.
"Excellent. Ask him to contain the energy emissions if possible. I'll be there soon." Having issued the necessary orders, Fury ended the call and headed towards the scene to take control of the situation.
"Problems with the Tesseract?" Talos asked, overhearing the conversation.
He knew about the artifact. When he first arrived on Earth, the Tesseract was in the Skrulls' possession before it ended up with Fury.
"Yes. I'm going there. And you're coming with me." Fury thought for a moment, then made the offer. The Skrulls possessed more advanced technology than they did. If Dr. Selvig couldn't handle it, perhaps Talos could find a solution.
"Alright."
After Fury settled his current affairs, he informed Steve Rogers that he had to leave, but he couldn't find Noah. He tried calling him, but to no avail. He sent several messages explaining the situation, hoping Noah would read them later.
Having dealt with the organizational matters, he took three agents and Talos with him, and they all boarded the Quinjet to head towards the base where the Tesseract was stored.
They were unaware that Noah was already on board. He lay on the roof of the Quinjet, hands behind his head, comfortably settled, while his PROJECT suit remained cloaked. The magnetic field generated by the armor held him firmly in place.
He had overheard Fury's conversation with Hill, intercepted by Lissandra, who was monitoring all activity on the base. Upon hearing the mention of the Tesseract, he immediately understood what was happening. He had recently noticed the cube's energy growing increasingly unstable. It was likely due to Thanos's interference.
When Fury and the others boarded the Quinjet, he decided to wait and see what would happen with the Tesseract. He was particularly interested in what might emerge in Loki's absence. He also hoped for some challenging missions to appear.
The base where the Tesseract was stored was located within the United States. Thanks to the Quinjet's speed, they arrived there relatively quickly. This facility was created for researching the Tesseract and developing more advanced weapons. Although the base was in a remote area, Fury knew that if something serious happened to the cube, the consequences would be felt even at a great distance.
Nick Fury and his team hurried out of the aircraft, where Agent Hill was already waiting for them. Seeing the director, she immediately approached to report on the current situation.
"The Tesseract's energy continues to increase," she said, leading them towards the location of the cube, simultaneously discussing the details with Fury.
"Dr. Selvig can't stabilize the energy fluctuations?" Fury asked.
"No. According to him, the Tesseract is emitting waves on its own, and he still hasn't found the cause."
Reaching the elevator, Fury stopped Hill and gave her instructions:
"Agent Hill, evacuate everyone immediately. The faster, the better!"
"Sir, if we can't control the Tesseract's energy, evacuation might be pointless."
"Then what, should we tell them to go back to sleep?" Fury reacted sharply, opening the elevator door. Before entering, he added, "Agent Hill, I need you to evacuate all prototypes and equipment."
"Sir, do we have time for that? If an explosion occurs, the equipment will be destroyed, even if we manage to evacuate it," Hill was puzzled.
"Until the end of the world arrives, we are obligated to be prepared. These devices are our insurance!" Fury said seriously.
Hill nodded, understanding the importance of the order, and hurried to evacuate the personnel and move the equipment.
When they descended in the elevator, the first thing Fury saw was Dr. Erik Selvig, fussing around the device controlling the Tesseract.
"How are things, Dr. Selvig?"
Dr. Selvig, his face filled with anxiety, looked up at Nick's voice and hurried towards him to explain the current critical situation.
Meanwhile, outside the base, Noah hovered in the air, surrounded by a powerful magical aura that permeated the entire complex. He carefully observed what was happening inside.
