Chapter 16 - ### Chapter 16: The Deal

People from different eras, regions, and cultural backgrounds will develop different humanities.

For instance, Coulson asked Leon very seriously about the deal. He thought that this meeting might not necessarily be a bad thing and at least wouldn't cause him a headache when reporting it.

However, what popped into Leon's mind when he proposed the "deal" was two muscle-bound men wrestling in a locker room.

"What deal! How could you say something like that! What kind of person do you take me for, a boy?!"

Coulson was dumbfounded.

Uh… wasn't it you who suggested it?!

*Cough cough!*

After calming down, Leon gestured with his hand, signaling everyone to stay calm.

The others: "Who are you talking to? You're the only one getting worked up here!" ~_~~_~~_~

"About the dea—proposal! Yes! I have a proposal!"

Coulson indicated that he didn't care what kind of art Leon loved, as long as he could get to the point. This time, Coulson found a way to communicate with Leon: don't speak, just let him talk!

"Well, this is my proposal."

Leon carefully chose his words, considering that this idea had just popped into his head, and in this deal, he was clearly in a weak position. Regardless, he had an absolute and unavoidable weakness at this moment.

Leon didn't have the strength to flip the table and walk away.

"I have three major strengths."

Leon paused, seemingly waiting for someone to ask him, "So, what are those three strengths?"

Unfortunately, Coulson had decided that if he didn't have to talk, he wouldn't! Barbara had been silent since entering the room, perfectly playing the role of a sidekick. The two guys with guns were focusing on nothing but their breathing and heartbeat. If they were ordered to spray Leon with bullets, maybe they'd show some interest!

No one took the bait!

Leon wasn't embarrassed and continued to ramble.

"These three strengths are: I can tell jokes, everyone loves talking to me. I run fast, and these legs of mine are famous for speed. And I'm skilled in medicine—let's put it this way, I can perform surgery with a toothbrush."

After finishing, Leon stared at Coulson, waiting for him to speak.

Coulson felt that he should ask something, so he carefully thought for a moment and asked, "Alright, the cooperation surely has nothing to do with telling jokes. We don't have much of a budget, but we do have a few vehicles…"

"Are you referring to your medical skills as the method of cooperation?"

"Nope."

"Huh?"

"I never said the method of cooperation had anything to do with my three strengths! I was just showing off. Hahaha!"

Coulson: *You're laughing at…*

At this moment, the middle-aged Coulson once again worried about his hairline. At the same time, he swore that next time, he'd find a way to inject Leon with some truth serum to see just how much he could talk!

Seeing the old man turn pale, his lips bluish, Leon coughed lightly and said seriously, "The method of cooperation, yes, I like that word, cooperation! I must say, older folks really are quick-witted! We young people have nothing but hair!"

*Cough cough!!* Off-topic, off-topic.

"The method of cooperation is this." Leon, who was sitting cross-legged in the air, pointed to his legs.

This time, Coulson couldn't even maintain a polite smile and remained silent.

"Do you want to learn? I can teach you!"

Leon wasn't just making stuff up; any skill he could use from the system actually existed and wasn't just rigidly following the script.

Being the meticulous person that he is, Leon had, of course, conducted experiments in this regard.

Hearing Leon say this, Coulson finally broke from his formulaic smile.

The Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Nick Fury, had always harbored a grand dream of saving the world.

Unfortunately, the official power of S.H.I.E.L.D. was insufficient, often relying on ordinary people and equipment.

Missions often depended on agents bulldozing through obstacles.

So, even though he knew that the Tesseract was likely more harmful than beneficial, Fury went ahead with it, including repeatedly attempting the Super Soldier Serum Project, the Immortal Project, the Kree Serum Project…

S.H.I.E.L.D. desperately needed its own power.

However, Fury's position and status made it impossible for him to trust any recruited forces.

Thus, this became a two-way deadlock.

Because they couldn't trust outsiders, S.H.I.E.L.D. needed its own power.

And because S.H.I.E.L.D. needed its own power, they couldn't rely on outsiders.

Over the years, Coulson, as one of Fury's most trusted subordinates, had also been deeply troubled by this issue, losing at least 30% of his hair over it.

Now, this problem seemed to have a potential solution.

Coulson slapped the table, stood up, and stared at Leon, speaking rapidly: "Can you teach others how to fly?"

"I never said I couldn't!"

"You're not a mutant?"

"Of course not!"

"You know about mutants?"

"Yeah, I even saw a bald old man in a wheelchair playing chess with an old man in a helmet in the park!"

"..."

"Besides flying, do you have anything else you can teach others?"

"Yes, lots of things." After a series of rapid questions and answers, Leon suddenly moved.

In a flash, Leon appeared in front of Coulson, with their faces only about eight inches apart. The rush of wind slightly messed up Coulson's hair.

*Lightning-fast!*

"Like this."

Coulson's pupils instantly dilated, and his first reaction was to turn around and stop the two guys who had raised their guns again.

Unfortunately, he was a bit too late.

The two guards had been ready to spray Leon with bullets for some time.

Gunshots rang out, and the impact of the bullets sent Leon flying, hitting the ground hard, raising a cloud of dust.

"God!!!!"

Coulson shouted, quickly turning around to press down on the guards' gun barrels.

Turning back, he looked at Leon lying motionless on the ground with several bullet wounds, feeling deep regret.

Just a little more! We could have…

"Ouch…"

Hmm?

"Ouch… young people these days have no sense of decency… sneak attacking me…"

"As expected… those internet idiots were right! This thing really hurts for a while after getting hit!"

What's going on?

Coulson was stunned.

Someone shot multiple times is still able to stand up?!

"Not a single person to help me up, sigh, these young people! Whoa."

In front of everyone's eyes, a completely black cat stood up from where Leon had fallen, muttering curses under its breath.

Then, still under everyone's watchful eyes, its form gradually distorted, blurred, and finally reverted to the familiar figure they knew.

Dressed in black, face covered with a mask, it was "Doctor List."

"What are you looking at!"

Leon, viciously scowling, started picking the bullets out of his clothes.

"Never seen a Druid before?!"

(Ps: Just to clarify, the protagonist isn't a good person~)

(Another Ps: There's no mutant storyline. Wolverine doesn't count.)
