"Dylan, where are you going at this time? It's a few minutes to midnight," Laura spoke, her voice thick with sleep as she woke to find Dylan fully dressed in black, zipped up in a biker suit.
"Don't stay up waiting," he replied, adjusting the zipper higher on his chest. "We'll talk tomorrow."
For the first time in weeks, he leaned forward and placed a gentle kiss on her cheek. Laura closed her eyes, stunned, as though she couldn't believe what had just happened.
"Did that just happen?" she breathed, half to herself.
He paused at the door, smirking to cover the heavy seriousness in his eyes. "For the baby. Don't get your hopes up," he added, pressing another quick kiss to the exact same spot before striding out.
He could sense something was off in the house, maybe from the way Laura exhaled so shakily, but he pushed the thought aside. His mind was too occupied, something pulling him about Valentino's projects.
