Cherreads

Chapter 14 - The man that scares love

Chapter fifteen

"Happy birthday !" The cheers filled the room, the sound of bottles popping and the noble music complimenting it.

"Lord you seem troubled." A noble woman walked up to Adrian "It is your birthday; you should be happy."

"Do you live in the shadows or what? You are starting to annoy me." Adrian continued to look at the cheery crowd, it was his birthday, he was supposed to be joyous, but how many times would you see Adrian even smile.

"I came to tell you that the natural laws have already started acting against you. I don't know how but the Canon had foreseen you before you were even born." Olga said. "If you truly have any plans on ruling this world, you better start before the church finds you. Mind you, you are only half immortal, over bloating your adaptation can kill you." Olga said, disappearing into the shadows.

Adrian continued to stare off into the crowd "Humph."

"Meteor."

A burning ball descended upon the Martindale Forest.

Roar.

Beast bellows and roars filled the sky, a lone being hovered in the air.

Thud. Thud.

The thuds of a giant beast echoed. Trees tumbled down and a Lion monkey could be seen the average gyn was three meters tall, yet that was just half the size of the beast.

"Killing the beast should be enough to draw attention away from me right."

<> Old fool said.

"Hmm." A slender blade appeared in Adrian's hands.

"Amplified Meteor." Adrian muttered. Materials; rocks, trees from the surrounding flew into the sky, congregating into a giant fireball.

"Roar." The lion monkey looked at the fireball with not fear, but bestial fury.

Pound. Pound

It hit its chest and let out an earth-shaking roar.

"Fall; Meteor shower."

Crack.

The giant fireball separated into smaller fragments and shot down.

Thud. Thud.

The beast hit his two legs down, taking upon a stance similar to the horse.

Boom.

Adrian was confused, the giant monkey was nowhere to be seen. "This is not teleportation." Adrian scrutinized.

Swoosh.

"It's his speed." Adrian phased away.

Boom.

Where he was before, two giant hands were clasped .

"Roar." The monkey opened his mouth and out of it, a spark of fire appeared.

"If you use your physical strength or maybe water magic or something else, you might have lived." Adrian said, very confident in his abilities especially in the fire and earth department.

"Sovereign rewrite." A red crown appeared around Adrian.

"Coulda held back, but let's finish this quickly, reverse blaze."

Ability analysis:

# Tiered Adaptation

Tier 0 – Null Exposure: Vulnerability to new magical types or structures, setting the stage for adaptation. Tier 1 – Basic Adjustment: Resistance to the magical effect, with damage halved. Tier 2 – Resonance: Harmonization with the magic type, granting moderate resistance, reflection capabilities, and instinctive understanding. Tier 3 – Integration: The spell type becomes part of Adrian's repertoire, allowing him to cast basic forms or manipulate its logic. Tier 4 – Transcendence: Magic of that type bends to Adrian's will, enabling him to reshape, hijack, or nullify spells. Tier 5 – Sovereign Rewrite: The Shard reconfigures magical laws, making the magic type loyal to Adrian and granting unparalleled control.

Boom.

The flames fell into the mouth of the beast exploding from within. No matter how strong ones hind is, the innards are still soft and weak.

Thud.

The beast fell to the ground with a muffled roar before the last of light faded away from its eyes.

Adrian sat on a sofa, his left-hand caressing Romeo his mom's dog that snuck had into his room, his other holding a book.

"All I am reading here just proves a relationship with Eloise and me is impossible." Adrian groaned. He scurred the Miguel's library for something to help with his situation at hand; he had come to admit that he had feelings for Loise, but he didn't know how to approach these feelings. He could see that she had a crush on Leron and he feared rejection, not because he feared the pain but he feared what would happen to Eloise. Knowing how unpredictable his emotions could be. However, this book just suggested things that remained impossible for him to do.

Thud.

The door slid open, and Maria walked in." Are you the one who slew the beast?" Maria asked.

"Yes." Adrian nodded, then let out an even louder groan.

Maria turned to the book in Adrian's hands and smiled "I didn't expect it to come this easily, especially with you." She said.

"If you are here to mock me then let it be."

"Well, who is that lucky girl." Maria asked.

Adrian cast his gaze on her for a while then replied "Eloise."

"The Carter girl? Oh-ho, she is like four years older than you, I get why you are frustrated. It would have been easier if it was the opposite."

"She would have been eight." Adrian shook his head.

"How is that bad? Girls have been married at six before, and even the Court of the Duke sees no problem in it. Look, age is just a number, it doesn't matter, I thought you would realize this sooner." Maria sat by Adrian, placing Romeo on her lap. Romeo struggled from Maria's grip, trying to go to Adrian.

"If you want, House Wilbert can declare war on House Carter if their daughter isn't married to our son." Maria reassured.

"I don't want to be the one burying you, dad or aunt Kairos. Even I am not sure I can take down the Carters." Adrian shook his head "Beside, why force someone to love me?"

"Because, you are our son."

There was a silence, even the drop of a pin was loud even to be heard. The sounds of the noble detectives looking for the killer of the monkey lion, could even be heard from the room.

"If that is the side you want to take, don't force yourself on her, be yourself, don't let your love for her define your actions unless she loves you back, I don't want to see my son as a simp." Maria massaged Adrian's cheeks.

"Thanks." Adrian hugged Maria.

"You may scare gods, but do not be the man that scares love."
