Chapter 582 - Chapter 582: Two Projects

Gilbert was not just talking; he genuinely intended to do this.

He made films out of personal interest, and interest was the greatest driving force for growth. For the sake of children, their hobbies and interests should be cultivated, and from them, one could find a career path they truly wanted.

Of course, as Gilbert said, illegal matters were absolutely not supported.

That said, in Western society, once someone reaches a certain status, the law can sometimes feel like a formality. Gilbert didn't want his child to become such a person; conscience mattered in both life and actions.

Having been reborn once, Gilbert believed in karmic retribution. If there were no metaphysical fate involved, his own rebirth could not be explained scientifically.

After the red carpet ceremony, Ilian went into the VIP lounge to rest, immediately becoming the center of attention.

Gilbert's child was naturally very popular. Winning over Gilbert was not easy, but pleasing a child was quite simple.

Ilian found his mother Naomi Watts, while his father was attending to guests.

Leonardo looked at Ilian and asked Gilbert, "Will he take over your role in the future?"

"Huh?" Gilbert countered, "Am I that old now?"

"Uh, not really."

Gilbert shrugged. "I fully respect the child's opinion. I just mentioned that during the interview. By the way, Leo, when will you have a kid?"

"Me?" Leonardo laughed. "Forget it. With a father as irresponsible as me, it wouldn't be good for a child."

Leonardo had a strong sense of self-awareness. As a famous Hollywood playboy, having a father like him wouldn't exactly be beneficial for a child.

It was a bit of a pity, though—if he had a child, passing on Leonardo's exceptional looks would have been amazing. But as it stood, Leonardo was increasingly on the path of self-indulgence.

Although classic beach water-gun photos hadn't appeared yet, the trend was moving in that direction.

Leonardo looked enviously at Tom Cruise. "You've collaborated with Tom on three films already, right?"

"Yeah. Envious?" Gilbert laughed. "You can't be envious of this because Tom is already a father. You can't relate to that role."

"True," Leonardo agreed, then shifted topics: "Since 'Saving Private Ryan,' we haven't really worked together properly. When can we collaborate again?"

Gilbert thought for a moment. "There actually is a project—a sci-fi action film in the realm of consciousness. I know action films aren't your strength, but I think the male lead role suits you."

Leonardo knew Gilbert had registered many scripts and ideas with the Screenwriters Guild, the Producers Guild, and the Directors Guild—ready to be made into films at any time.

He asked, "I know you don't like spoilers, but can I know roughly what type of film it is?"

Gilbert considered: "If I have to pick a type, it's like a sci-fi version of a '007' film. I promise this story will be very exciting. You know 'The Matrix,' right?"

"Yes, your work is a sci-fi classic," Leonardo replied.

"This story has the potential to become a sci-fi classic of the new era. Interested?" Gilbert tempted.

Since 'Titanic,' Leonardo had little interest in commercial films, focusing on awards instead. But it depended on whose work it was—if it was Gilbert's film, Leonardo would definitely be willing.

Sure enough, Leonardo bit the bait: "Of course, I'm interested. Save it for me."

"Save what?" Matt Damon suddenly appeared.

"Well, I'm talking with Leo about a…"

Before Gilbert could finish, Leonardo quickly interrupted: "Never mind. Gilbert just got a new game disk—it's really fun."

"Really?" Matt Damon was skeptical. Clearly, they weren't talking about a game.

"Absolutely."

Leonardo's solemn tone was convincing, but seeing Gilbert sneaking a smile, Matt Damon instantly doubted it.

"Gilbert, you tell him."

Gilbert laughed: "I'm talking to Leo about a story, and he's not interested…"

Leonardo quickly covered Gilbert's mouth: "Nonsense! Who's not interested? I'm taking this project."

"Wah wah…"

"Are you agreeing or not?"

Seeing Gilbert nod, Leonardo finally let go, allowing Gilbert to catch his breath.

Matt Damon commented, "Leo, is that necessary? It's just a movie project. Are you worried I might snatch it?"

Leonardo nodded seriously: "Of course I'm worried. I have to guard against you."

Gilbert chimed in: "Matt, no need to envy Leo. Actually, I've prepared a script for you as well. It's very interesting."

Matt Damon immediately became curious: "What script? When do we start? My schedule is open anytime."

Gilbert was a little dizzy from Matt Damon's rapid-fire questions and quickly said, "Don't rush, not that fast. You have to wait your turn."

"All right then," Matt Damon asked, "What's the story roughly about?"

"Uh, simply put, it's about planting potatoes on Mars using your own feces," Gilbert explained.

The moment he said that, both Leonardo and Matt Damon reacted with disgust: "Yuck, what kind of grotesque story is this?"

"What? Not interested? If not, I'll find someone else," Gilbert pretended to leave.

"No, no, no," Matt Damon hurriedly pulled Gilbert back. "It's just planting potatoes on Mars with feces? I can handle it."

Leonardo suddenly felt a bit lucky. Compared to this Mars-feces-potato story, his sci-fi version of a '007' project seemed much cooler.

To avoid discouraging Matt Damon, Leonardo decided to keep this news to himself.

Although the conversation was fun, in reality, these two projects with Leonardo and Matt Damon wouldn't be made for several years.

This year, there was still a TV series to handle. Warner was also urging Gilbert to start on the sequel story for 'Batman,' and the Marvel Cinematic Universe needed his supervision.

For the final 'Avengers' film, Marvel executives strongly insisted he personally handle it; they didn't trust giving it to another director.

On top of that, with the recent acquisition battle between Lucasfilm and Industrial Light & Magic, women's careers, family education, and business expansion, there were countless miscellaneous matters to attend to.

But in fact, Gilbert felt it was better to be busy. Having goals to strive for made life fulfilling.

The worst was being busy without purpose, just for survival—truly a torment of life. Most people endured this kind of torment, which often led them to oppose effort and reject motivational guidance in the end.

Why keep striving if your efforts show no hope?

In this regard, Gilbert was fortunate. His efforts had direction, and he could see hope.
