Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 :Macabre tapestry

Apathy. The only word best fit to describe the void like emotion Carwyn is feeling right now. A void where nothing is left to feel. No fear, no anger, no joy nor pain: no tears. Just emptiness , silence, a hollow space where nothing is felt and where nothing is left.

"Ha ha ha! , such irony!!." Carwyn laughed crazily for a moment before groaning in pain as he looked at the spear in his chest.

Then silence dominated the world again. He was in his final moments.

Up in the sky, Above the desolate battlefield, vultures circled like dark omens against the night sky. Their wings beat slowly, cutting through the thick, humid air with a rhythmic Sound that echoed the last heartbeats of the fallen below. In silent, patient arcs, they glided effortlessly, their keen eyes scanning the ground for any sign of life that still clung on or for the feast that awaited them.

The birds of death knew well the aftermath of conflict, and they gathered now in anticipation, their silhouettes a grim contrast to the faint, silvery glow of the obscured moon.

"As expected of lord Ewan Aurum , the golden eel born from the yew tree. I am not your match."

"Hand over the your blue Aurora medallion and get lost Gawain . I am begining the merger immediately ."

Lord Ewan took the blue medallion in an indifferent expression as Gawain's whole body was engulfed with a blue liquid like light

Disappearing in thin air.

Lord Ewan then looked down , his gaze focusing on the sole survivor .

The battlefield was a macabre tapestry, painted in deep crimson. The night draped itself over the land like a mourner's veil, shrouding everything in a thick, oppressive darkness.

From all over, a dense fog, nearly black in hue, crept along the ground, weaving through the lifeless bodies that lay scattered like discarded dolls.

The stench of blood was suffocating. A metallic tang that filled the air and clawed at the senses, mixing with the foul smell of death and decay.

"Tsk' , why aren't you dying!! ." Lord Ewan clicked , his arrogant expression worn all over his face.

He then descended , instantly being shrouded by the thick fog which resonated with him .

The dark fog circled around him instantly changing his form. His aura weakened, from a dark foggy aura to a faint golden aura. His hair then changed color , from black to blonde as if he was washing away the dye in his hair. His slim average body became bulged , full of muscles while his own clothes readjusted themselves to facilitate his changing body.

After a while, he was fully transformed and even Gawain who had just met him could now not even recognize him.

About three hundred metres away , a solitary figure could be seen by Lord Ewan .

As he approached the man, he could see his chest heaving with each

labored breath.

With every step ,he understood him, his nature, his personality and his dedication and perseverance. But as he got closer, his understanding of the man in front of him went down the drain.

He could feel nothing from the man, but an eerie emptiness. Even the corpses around him had expressions .

A moment ago, Lord Ewan had comprehended him as a man shaped by war, evident as his body was a canvas of Scars, wounds both old and new crisscrossing his flesh.

His armor, once gleaming, was now battered and stained, clinging to his form in pieces.

The remnants of a blood-soaked tunic clung to his torso, torn and shredded by the

ferocity of the fight. His face was smeared with grime and sweat, a mixture of his own blood and that of his enemies. He was marked by thesavagery of battle, his eyes hollow, staring into the void with a kind of

haunted emptiness.

Around him, the ground was littered with the remnants of the clash. Swords and spears jutted from the earth like skeletal fingers, their blades dulled and stained. Shields

lay discarded, some split in two, others still clutched by lifeless hands.

Severed heads and limbs were scattered like grotesque offerings, faces frozen in expressions of agony and terror.

The earth itself seemed to bleed, dark

patches of blood pooling in the mud,

light of the waning moon.

Lord Ewan was now an arm's length away from the man.He looked at the man with a curious gaze.

He detested the man because the man was weak but felt admiration towards the man's perseverance.

The man was used as a pawn by yours truly .He was used by Lord Ewan to initiate conflict as well as to spread enmity among his peers.

But what made lord Ewan detest him further was that the man was aware he was being used as a tool .A pawn in a game of the so called benovelent Aegis.

But we're they benovelent..?

Carwyn, the man on his last breath knew this better than anyone.

And yet played his part perfectly

"Who are you ?"

"Not talking... ?"

"Aahh!! The little spear on your chest getting in the way! Maybe I should just pull it out, should I pull it out ,little mortal..?"

Lord Ewan said disdainfully with a fake forced smile on his face.

He kept on looking and observing Carwin like a museum piece before finally giving in to his curiosity and he started to activate his methods.

"Ohh , interesting , interesting. Your omnicore is not resonating with my methods. That can only mean one thing."

"You are a long way from home, little mortal."

Lord Ewan was captivated by his discovery. He was learning a lot and satisfying his own curiosity. He was overjoyed.

But he could not continue endulging himself any longer.

There were sudden rumbles of thunder and crackles of lightening.

The dark fog was glowing and deeming concurrently with the loud rumbles of thunder.

As this continued , the fog started to spread and engulfing everything it come in contact with.

All living and non living objects were swallowed whole by the fog .It did not discriminate. Whether it was the vultures who were now screeching in fear or the lifeless bodies of the soldiers , it was all prey in front of the terrifying fog.

"The merger has ended."

Lord Ewan faced the fog and twitched. His golden aura fluctuated a bit and he exacted force to his legs as he ascended to the sky.

He seemed afraid of the fog.He then concentrated his golden aura to his right hand and grabbed the air.

The golden aura seemed to have torn space as his hand disappeared into the void.

Lord Ewans expression stiffened at the site of his dissipating aura which was being consumed by the spacial tore.

"This expenditure is terrifying ," he said as he made a pulling action making his hand reappear into the world.

In his hand was a medallion .It was an obsidian medallion different from the other blue Aurora medallion .

The surface of the obsidian medallion was a dark purple colour with an almost liquid sheen that catches the light in subtle, shifting hues.

It was circular, about the size of a large coin, with intricate patterns etched into its two surfaces. The front surface had patterns which were geometric, swirling with symmetrical precision, and the back surface was more organic, resembling the flowing lines of vines or waves. At the center of the medallion, there was a prominent symbol etched at the ethereal opal( gemstone) which was embedded at the at the center and could be seen on either side of the medallion.

The prominent symbol was a long, slender golden eel that was coiling around a huge thousand year old yew tree.

The golden eel was like a vine that was feeding off the tree for vitality.

Lord Ewan was satisfied by the medallion. He started pouring his golden aura into the medallion as if wanting to activate it.

Golden aura poured in and got absorbed by the gemstone which then showed a second tree growing rapidly from the soil.

It was a magnificent sight .

Rumble!!

Cracle!!

The loud sound of thunder and the glow of lightening was getting intense. Lord Ewan was keeping his distance away from the all devouring black fog as he continued refining the medallion by instilling his aura into it.

He would sometime cast glances at Carwyn who seemed to only have a breath of life left.

Carwyn as if noticing Lord Ewan's gaze , raised his head upwards. He was only able to do so by exerting all his strength to his head.

But to him it was all worth it

In carwyn's mind, thoughts collided at a fast pace as he processed the happenings of his sorroundings.

He could see a figure floating in the sky.He could see the ominous fog headed towards him .He could also see the medallion which was absorbing the golden aura and the gemstone at it's center glowing with a dark purple .

"Just as expected, he is refining the medallion here because of the fog."

Carwyn let out a faint chuckle as he made up his mind.

He took another glance at the floating figure but this time his eyes met with Lord Ewan's eyes.

It was at that moment

Carwyn moved his hands to grab the spear at his chest. He grabbed the front of the spear and pulled it out as he let out a loud shriek that seemed to tear the heavens.

The little blood he had was gushing out profusely . His eyes bulged outwards as his nose bled. He was in pain.

But pain could not deter him.

He cleanched his teeth as he held the spear in his right hand. He took a one step forward and six steps backwards as he made a moving motion to throw the spear.

Lord Ewan flinched at this sight. He was in a stage where he could not stop pouring his aura into the medallion. It was a critical last stage where if he is interupted he would loose the merged obsidian medallion.

The moment the spear left Carwyn's hand , Carwyn dropped to the ground. He was totally dead.

Lord Ewan looked towards the dead corpse with disdain before looking at the incoming spear.

The spear was soring through the sky , tearing the heavens apart. It was a result of Carwyn's final struggle .

Looking at the looming looming spear , he dicided to take it head on while protecting the medallion.

In his mind, Lord Ewan knew that if he kept flying up the sky, the spear would loose it's momentum and it would not hurt him even if he is pierced.

He was calm and calculated. He flew upwards, but there was something that troubled him. It was an ominous feeling that something was off.

His instinct was not wrong

From up above he could suddenly see the black fog descending.

He had to make a choice. Either the black fog or the spear.

He was dicisive. To him it was not even a choice. The black fog was more dangerous and he could try taking the spear head on.

The spear was imbued with Carwyn's grey aura and it's target was the medallion.

Such a spear would avoid obstacles , change direction and could not be dogded. It was like an inferred missle. That is why Lord Ewan didn't even have such a thought. He faced the spear head on.

But the ominous feeling from before was still lingering around. It was suffocating him .

Due to this feeling , he felt more threat coming from the spear and he decided to reduce the amount of aura instilled into the medallion in order to use it as a protective shield.

It was the smartest thing to do

But it was all for naught

The aura in the spear suddenly concentrated into the spearhead and detached itself from the base.

It neared Lord Ewan who glared at the spearhead with complicated emotions.

"No wonder you were the last one standing"

"Ohh, th..this...this is a totem!!!"

His heart started palpating at the sight of the totem heading towards him.

One second. One second was all it took for him to calm himself and to react to the situation.

He abruptly stoped the refinement of the medallion and forcefully split it into two , undoing the merger.

Cough !

Cough!

Lord Ewan suffered a backlash from forcefully splitting the medallion and coughed up blood. He looked at the totem spearhead almost reaching him then said,

"May we meet again ,on the oldest plane"

"Elder world!! Cough! Cough"

He then took his own golden medallion and activated a spatial technique .

Totem Technique !! Golden Travel!!

A golden glow radiated from the golden medallion onto him as he poured in his golden aura. His whole body got engulfed by the golden glow which the started to disipate leaving only a golden silhoutte which dimmed into nothingness.

He was gone!

Some would ask why he split the medallion and run..?

It was simple.

Lord Ewan , who thought himself as the chess player , playing with the lives of others, had just realized that he was also a pawn.

One that was used by a mere mortal at that.

Him, a great , grand and mighty Aegis became a pawn used by a mortal.

Carwyn, the mortal in question , had noticed the influence of the Aegis. The grand and mighty rank 6 whose presence was that of lengends and fairytale .

But they were different from what was dipicted by the legends.

They were malicious, indignant and without a care for the lives of mortals. Their scheming plotting and manipulation was on a whole other level.Able to deceive the whole world and make them do their bidding .

But who was Carwyn...?,

He was a rank 5 totem lord who had transmigrated to this world as a nobody. His soul put into the body of an orphan who had nothing.

But the scariest thing was...,,

It was by his own accord. His home world had to many restrictions that didn't allign with his ambitions.

As a demonic cultivator, he felt suffocated. He was not allowed the chance to grow, not allowed the chance to get his revenge.

His desire for revenge had a profound impact his psyche, it transformed his thoughts, emotions and behaviour. He became fixated on his target and thus lost his sence of compassion , what was immoral was now justifiable and most of all,

he became power hungry.

His ambitions sored to the sky but the sky could not have it. It could not tolerate him and his target became invincible in his world. At the top of the food chain and could not even bother with the little ant's grievance.

This left a bitter feeling in Carwyn's mouth and so in his last bit of struggle he poked the hornets nest. Let's just say the hornet was not happy forcing Carwyn's transmigration to this now almost destroyed world.

His desire for revenge may have changed him but it never gave him tunnel vision. It just reaffirmed his pragmatic and ruthless personality.

And so when he transmigrated to this world, he viewed the world through a lens of personal benefit and survival, with little regard for conventional morality or emotional bonds. His actions were always guided by cold logic and a long-term vision for power, often making decisions that prioritize his own survival and growth above all else.

That was how he was able to survive, and how he saw the influence of the Aegis as an opportunity to grow stronger .

But things escalated too quickly, this world was more ruthless that he thought and in the end he died.

But that was all part of his scheme.

From the moment he came to learn about the existence of Elder world and that entry requires the fusion of two contradicting world core medallions, he had made his arrangements.

He had filled his totem with soul vitality Dao marks for almost ten years, since he comprehended the Aegis's motives.

Lord Ewan's medallion was filled with the same soul vitality Dao marks while the other was blank and needed a massive amount soul decay Dao marks .

In the merger, the blank medallion must absorb the soul decay Dao marks from the world core then merge with the soul vitality filled medallion.

Of course the were brought about the death of living things on a global scale.

The spearhead totem was now at the vicinity of the medallion( the one filled with soul decay Dao marks)Carwyn's soul which was within flew out in a freanzy.

It entered the medallion making it glow with a faint dark purple glow which grew stronger as it engulfed the medallion wholly. The dark purple glow them slowly dissipated and disappeared out of existance .

It's destination without a doubt ...
